    There aren't any...

If you're talking about the Scythe and Ethercaste Knight, that's not blue. That's the new metallic color they put on gold artifacts. Other parts of the card are gold though so it's a completely valid gold card.

Thanks. At first I thought I was going color blind, and then I realized I've forgotton how to read. "Artifact creature" maybe should have given it away. Wow...

I've missed some information. Why do we have two blue border cards in an all gold set?

I'll give it to this "Freddy" guy: if he is a fake, at least he isn't sticking around and telling everyone he's right ("you'll see") like the other fakers.

    Intriguing,
The treefolk we know would not really be the type to conjure lightning bolts and the like. Perhaps in Morning Tide we'll see some members of races outside of their normal colors?

Looking at the picture, i'm not sure the treefolk is creating the lightning. It looks like he's catching it. Some of the energy is running down his arm and some has continued moving past him. If the lightning were moving from his hand forward, I think it would be more focused and aimed, not just shooting off at an odd downward angle.

So Gwb still seems likely for the trees.

Of course, I might be severely confused.

IMHO, the problem is not with the rumor mill, it's the people who pre-order cards and expect it not to be a gamble. YOU ARE BUYING CARDS YOU HAVE NOT EVER SEEN.

Would you put down money and say send me one of whatever Ford cranks out of the factory next year, or send me whatever the chef makes next?

I think it would be a good idea, but it will take a little while for the card pool to filter through and create enough of a buzz to sustain a discussion. If it doesn't happen immediately, don't fret. The discussion will emerge.

I'm with the people saying they're uncomfortable with the assymetry. *shiver* I find myself squirming a little at the thought that some of my decks aren't going to get these cool new additions.

It's funny, but I think the asymmetry is a brilliant twist. I mean, it makes me uncomfortable too...you should either have 10 duals or 5 allied or 5 enemy. Logic demands it!

But in breaking free of the tyranny of symmetry, R&D opens up so much more design space. How were they going to top Rav block's 2-color pairings? The set was incredible, but it left little to do if you had to stay within the 10, 5 or 5 structure that we've all been working under for a while now.

I think its good that they try situating the tribes in their colors by flavor and then determining what resources (land, artifacts, etc) they might need from there. It's a fresh new take on design. Next set R&D may use an entirely different organizational scheme. And if this set has "random" parts of MTG, and other sets have "random" parts of MTG, I can see how they would fit together and overlap in new and interesting ways.

You'd think they'd want to reduce the traffic on MTG.com, given that the server can't handle the load.

:D:D lol :D:D Think that's bad, don't try MTGO during a release event.

Anyway, I like the merfolk guy in a U/W merfolk deck with blinks and bounce and oblivion ring. Could get kinda silly.

On a barely related side note, has anyone else noted we've got 180 cards spoiled yet none of our official preview cards have been repeats of the spoiled cards? I feel by this time we're normally like "eh, we've seen that. It's nice to have the art but...". Maybe I'm just trying to make up some "wizards is the ones feeding us our info" conspiracy theory... But hey, maybe they figured if they can't beat us, they'd just regulate our info.

More than likely true, or at least they put out info along the proper channels as to what the spoiled cards will be so they are not spoiled here first.

I thing WOTC can live with these spoiler sites like this so long as they don't reduce the traffic on MTG.com. Spoiling cards here first is exactly what would keep us away. So there has likely been some accomodation made at some level (intentionally vague).

    Thanks Monopoman and SpacemanSpiff.

You both answered my question very well. I didn't think it allowed two rounds of first strike, but a boy can dream.

Still, you can block and kill 9 1/1s without dying (sans tricks) and swing for 10 with Battle Mastery attached. I'm happy with that.

Remember people; "Champion a creature" means that you need to have a creature out in play FIRST before you can play it.
So when you see a 5/5 for 4, Remember that you also need to a play a creature before, that includes a mana cost just to play it.
    It's more like a 5/5 for 4+X.

Not to nit-pik, but it actually says "Champion a Kithkin" which can be any Kithkin permanent (read: enchantment), not just a creature, according to the article.

Okay, so somebody explain to me what double strike does with first strikers and what it does on defense. Does the trio get as sick as I think with Battle Mastery on it?

    Quote from Cervid
They are not gilded leaves! Gilt-Leaf is the name of the most powerful elven tribe/clan on Lorwyn. It has nothing to do with painting the surface of leaves golden.

Quite honestly, it's probably both. The process of gold leafing is likely where the design team got the name for the tribe. Especially with the card name "Leaf Gilder," they are speaking about the process as much as the tribe name. I agree with energythief, it's cool that Leaf Gilder makes the leaves that everyone else wears.

So the Gilt-leaf Tribe are those who wear gilded leaves made by the leaf Gilder, and that's how they got their name. (Not that I am any kind of expert on gilding, elves or tribes.)

Gilt leaf is, if I remember correctly, the process of applying a very very thin layer of gold to some other surface. This is also known as gold leaf. Its use with the elves makes for a nice subtle pun. Is it gilt leaf as a process, or is it actual golden leaves?

For the cards: the Gilder is certainly limited playable and could find a place in big mana green, but wouldn't help multicolor too much. The Ambush is a nice spell. Once your opponent sees it, whether it worked or not, it will really affect his attacking pattens. I'd hate to lose fatties to a stupid elf token with an attitude. The clash enabler works well with this set, but it ain't no divining top *melancholy*. Eulogist is meh. Some cards make you win more when you are already winning. This one just makes you loose one turn slower when you're losing. If you have enough elves in the graveyard to make it worth while, your gonna need more than that.

    Thanks Charlequin. Good work!

Clash also seems too random for my liking. I guess it can be fun in limited, but may quickly become boring if you need to "clash" each and every turn.

Yes the clash mechanic is random, but so is the game. Mana screw is random, creature screw is random, control screw is random. Clash is just random in a more defined way. The only way to get around random in this game is to cheat, and that's a very bad idea. At least clash gives you a way of working the odds in your favor (scry cards especially, Sensei's Divining Top in extended with counterbalance likes this this mechanic I bet).

Anyway, I like clash. It's kinda a cross between Magic and Texas Hold'em. Let's see if I win on the river.

When the championed card returns to play, would it trigger CIP effects? I can't remember the wording on champion, or...well, really...the specific rules on CIP effects. Redface
