    Thanks for the reply!

Your version of Feeding makes more sense given the timing rules you explained.

The goal of Strange Temptations was definitely to create a funny list of weird types Smile

Do you work for this site? What's the status of the site? It seems like hardly anyone is posting, but card previews are continuing, but the latest articles are from four years ago.

It seems as if almost nobody is active on these forums anymore, but since there have been a few recent posts, I thought I might as well post.

    Frenzied Feeding GGGGG
    Sorcery (M)
Target creature you control fights target creature you don't control. You may repeat this process any number of times.

    Eldest Sage U
    Creature - Human Wizard (R)
1: Look at the top card of your library.
    2: Scry 1.
3: Draw a card, then discard a card.
    4: Draw a card.
    1/1

    Strange Temptations 2B
    Sorcery (R)
Search your library for an Arcane, Cartouche, Cave, Clue, Curse, Desert, Equipment, Food, Fortification, Gate, Lair, Lesson, Locus, Powerstone, Rune, Saga, Shrine, Siege, Trap, Treasure, or Vehicle card, reveal that card, put it into your hand, then shuffle.
"What a pile of junk, nothing here of any val--Oh! Look at this!"

The last one started out as a joke, and it still is, but I wonder if it has any practical applications. Thoughts?

  • posted a message on Mechanic: Supply
Supply is a mechanic that uses a new resource: supply counters. The premise is a world with many trade routes, inspired by the long trade routes of Asia. Various factions carry weapons, food, and other goods along these roads. In terms of color pie, green and white accumulate these counters on creatures, moving them around and removing them for various benefits. Black punishes enemies for carrying supplies, and blue benefits from spying on enemies and learning their battle plans based on the supplies they are carrying. Red can both accumulate counters and punish opponents for using them.

I probably won't do more work on this mechanic, so I'm putting it in the public domain. Anyone is free to expand on it, and use it how they like.

    Trade Road Merchant (C) | 1G
    Creature - Human
    2/2
When Rations Hauler enters the battlefield, supply 1. (Put a supply counter on target creature you control.)

    Creature - Bird Warrior
    2/3

2, Remove a supply counter from Sky Fighter: It gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

Flammable Goods X+2 damage to target creature, where X is the number of supply counters on that creature.

    Swamp Snare (C) | 1B

    Military Intelligence (U) | 3U

When Grundo enters the battlefield, choose up to 3 target creatures you don’t control. Move all supply counters from those creatures onto Grundo.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may move any number of supply counters from Grundo onto other creatures you control. Grundo deals 1 damage to you for each counter moved this way.

    Rations Hauler (C) | 3G
    Creature - Beast
    3/4
When Rations Hauler enters the battlefield, supply 2.

    Sharpener of Spears (U) | 1W
    Creature - Human Soldier

The final showdown with Bolas is approaching. Last time the Gatewatch were not powerful enough to stop him. What if they each could summon an avatar than embodied their type of magic? I would love to hear feedback, more so on the flavor and general power level than whether these could actually go in a standard-legal set.

    Gideon’s Immortal Army | 10WW
    Legendary Creature - Avatar
    10/10
Gideon’s Immortal Army costs 1 less to cast for each creature on the battlefield.
    Indestructible
Whenever GIA attacks, you gain 1 life for each creature on the battlefield.

    Jace’s Telekinetic Titan | 8UU
    Legendary Creature - Avatar
    8/8
JTT costs 1 less to cast for each card in your hand.
    Flying
Whenever JTT attacks, you may return up to 8 target creatures to their owners’ hands.

    Liliana’s Apex Amalgam | 6BB
    Legendary Creature - Avatar
    9/9
LAA costs 1 less to cast for each Zombie card in your graveyard.
    Trample
Whenever LAA attacks, you may return target Zombie creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

    Chandra’s Screaming Firebird | 5RR
    Legendary Creature - Avatar
    7/7
CSF costs 1 less to casts for each red spell you’ve cast this turn.
    Flying, haste
Whenever CSF attacks, you may return target red instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand.

    Teferi’s Timewinding Serpent | 6WU
    Legendary Creature - Avatar
    8/8
TTS costs 1 less to cast for each historic permanent you control.

  • posted a message on Need Input for New Mechanic for Custom Set
I wonder if Dancing Fireball should be uncommon? Seems underpowered for a Rare, even if Divergence is easy to accomplish.

As for accomplishing Divergence in Limited, I would say you need a multicolor theme for the set. In sets without a multicolor theme, I don't see people building 3-color decks very often. When people do build 3-color decks in Limited, the third color is usually a splash. If you want Divergence to be fun, I would have a strong multicolor theme so that it can come up often in Limited games. Remember, even if your deck runs 3 colors, you won't necessarily have all three on the battlefield. So you'll probably need quite a few multicolor cards, plus off-color activated abilities and lots of mana fixing in order to help players build a deck with 3 colors and then actually get those three colors onto the field.

  • posted a message on New mechanic help!
What would be some examples? Is the point of it to neutralize opposing creatures?

    Like...

Big Ice Cube That Likes to Hug You 2UU
    Artifact Creature - Elemental
Adhere 2U (2U: Attach this to target creature. Adhere only as a sorcery. A creature that is attached to another creature stops being a creature.)
    2/4

Notice I removed the last sentence of reminder text, as it seemed unnecessary.

But the thing is, if the creature that is being "hugged" stops being a creature...what does it become? In this case, the Ice Cube becomes an artifact, but I think the other creature needs to become another card type.

I know it can be worked out to reattach one of these after it has fallen off, but you need to make absolutely certain that when the effect that reattaches occurs, it sees the enchantment as an Aura with an enchant ability.
I still think that a flicker is the cleanest and most decisive way to achieve this.
    Let's see how it looks:

    Phoenix Boon RR
    Enchantment - Aura (R)
Linger (This stops being an Aura and loses its enchant ability if it's not attached to a permanent.)
    Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+2, has haste, and must attack each turn if able.
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, if Phoenix Boon isn't an Aura, you may exile it, then return it to the battlefield attached to that creature.

Or, for a rollicking good time, you could allow the Boon to reattach even if it is still attached to a creature:

    Phoenix Boon RR
    Enchantment - Aura (R)
Linger (This stops being an Aura and loses its enchant ability if it's not attached to a permanent.)
    Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+2, has haste, and must attack each turn if able.
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may exile Phoenix Boon, then return it to the battlefield attached to that creature.

    Or this?

Remember (Whenever you activate a Cycling ability, you may return this card from your graveyard to your hand instead of resolving that Cycling ability.)

  • posted a message on Conditional Dredge?
I realize you're trying to create a safer Dredge, but as a mechanic that ties in with Cycling, it seems far simpler to just do:

Remember (If you would cycle a card, you may return this card from your graveyard to your hand instead of drawing a card.)

Riddle of Lightning is the only Red card that allows you to Scry 3.

There are only 10 other cards that allow Scry 3 or higher, with 7 being Blue, 1 being White, 1 being Green and 1 being colorless.

So I'd say Red can get Scry 3 on rare occasions.

On first glance, this is brilliant.

Battle Preparations appears insanely good in Limited.

I wonder if the wording on Phoenix Boon needs to change? I don't know if you can attach a non-Aura enchantment to a creature.

  • posted a message on Finding a better card storage system
    Hey everyone,

After 18 years of playing Magic, I'm tired of cardboard boxes that fall apart.

I'm looking for a better box. My dream? A wooden box, lined with felt. But I haven't found a box like that designed for Magic cards (yet). Some day, when I have money, I'll hire a carpenter to make me a few custom boxes like that.

But in the meantime, have you all found any good, durable storage boxes that aren't just cheap cardboard? I'm specifically looking for boxes that will hold my Cubes, so 360+ sleeved cards in one box. I'm aware that this exists, but I'm not quite ready to put down $90 for a box. Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

Akoum Firebird attacks each turn if able.
Reckless Cohort attacks each combat if able.

If there are multiple combat phases in a turn, does Akoum Firebird attack multiple times? Or does it remember that it has already attacked this turn and isn't required to attack again?

Why are these different abilities printed on two cards in the same expansion?
Why even have both abilities? Why doesn't WotC just stick with one?

  • posted a message on What I Want From Red
My frustration is that Red effects will exile a card and allow you to play it, but it often happens to be the wrong card for that specific moment in the game. The intention behind the "Red instant Ponder" is that you get some choice in what card gets exiled, so that your "impulsive draw" has a better chance of being relevant to the current game state. Exiling a single card is fine, but the chances are lower that you'll want the card. Dealing damage if you don't play it is fine too, but it doesn't address the desire to have impulsive draw effects that pay off more frequently.

A "Red Ponder" could cost more if you think it would be too powerful at R. My intention is to make impulsive draw more exciting by having it pay off more frequently.

A color-shifted Serum Visions doesn't help, because you scry after exiling the card.

Seer's Fervor is unnecessarily complicated, and doesn't fix the problem of accidentally exiling something that you can't play because it still picks one at random.
Why not just "Exile the top card of your library, you may play that card this turn. Scry 2."
    What about:

    Seer's Fervor | R
    Instant
Scry 3, then exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn.
