    Hello all,
Ive been wanting to get back into mtg and love the look of DnT, however I cant confidently drop 160 on Aether vials if im gonna just walk away from magic again. So is there a viable list that doesnt use them? I know getting the free mana and instant speed play is great but its worth a shot asking around.

I don't know about Managorger Hydra actually, yeah its great for having counters and can be just a huge creature, but its going to be huge if not removed anyways so the synergy with Atraxa isnt quite there. ie 'oh I have a 10/10 because of atraxa!' 'What is it normally?' 'Erm, a 7/7' so something like Hangarback Walker (chumpblockers for days) or Eternal Witness might be better even.

Also Strionic resonator will probably be a must in Atraxa

Is there viability in an aristocrats deck that uses larger creatures such as Demon of Deaths Gate? The beat down strategy has usually relied on Bloodthrone Vampire combos, Cryptolith rite may be able to give some more strength to ramping with a lot of lesser creatures. Cryptolith enabling scions to produce two mana, and the vulnerable creatures like artists taping for mana too could be degenerate. Creatures that may be worth the trouble like Grave Titan, Demon of Deaths Gate(can be free), Liege of the pit(we have fodder to sacrifice anyways), Kalitas traitor (He specifies Opponents) Reality Smasher (scions give colorless for the req). Its possible to not forsake CoCo too if the copies are kept low enough and if you neglect removal (eh). Its probably still bad but worth a thought.

The deck he posted doesnt. Do you want to sacrifice your Grim Haruspex? Your champion of the parish, cartel arostocrat? Not really. The deck he had it in relied on recurring threats (Bloadsoaked) and benefitting from them entering and leaving, with a lot of aristocrats but not that many fodder. It does seem like itd still work but not to where you want to kill that many of your own creatures at the cost of a card or some life, while potentially benefitting your opponent.

I would agree about Kalitas, However Kalitas specifies Opponent so you are still able to Rally/reanimate at will.

Kalitas really wouldnt be that bad in the deck aswell. How is Killing Wave? It seems like itd just cost you more than them.

I think the cryptolith version is what got me thinking of Pack Rat, I think I do understand though, since most of the cards in the deck will generally be more efficient than a rat so discarding is strictly worse unless its a land or if it is meant for reanimation which most decks dont seem to do much of besides lili.

Im skeptical of lupine protottpe simce even for Rally many other 2 mana creatures would have more bodies and not be dead cards outside of the rally. Even something like Carrier Thrall

Eldritch Evolution seems great for this though. Sacing even a lowly scion to it turns into an artist

Next question; what about Mortician Beetle? Is it because its vanilla (french vanilla) and can just be chump blocked for days? If it gets hit with removal it is only a 1 drop that didnt have any sink into itself but only benefitted off of the workings of the deck itself

Hello all, I had an aristocrats type deck before khans rotated (RIP Bloodsoaked Champion) and do enjoy the deck alot but have been looking towards shifting it towards Modern and read through some of the thread here.

    Some questions:
Has Pack Rat ever been considered or proven to be viable? Where the deck is 'grindy' and able to take advantage of the graveyard (especially with Rally) im surprised to see this never included. It is quite slow but the value gained from it is impressive, and if you were to include Ravenous Rats instead of Brain Maggots/Tidehollow then you could approach Rat tribal haha.

Hangarback Walker I think has been dismissed because of it not liking CoCo (although with enough aristocrats just having it hit and die isnt always a disaster) but what is stopping Matter Reshaper? (Is it just the 3cmc?) Especially with Catacomb sifter being able to scry and give you more selection this seems like it would be viable.

Sorry for rambling, typing on mobile.
