I appreciate that. I’m going to have to nitpick just a smidge as both prevention effects apparently apply to the first instance of damage from the target, but overall you answered my questions perfectly fine otherwise.

EDIT: one judge said that on a chat and another agrees with you, so I’m waiting to be sure of it but if so I’m sorry for doubting

edit 2: CR614.3 is the ruling he cites and upon reading it that confirms it for me. I humbly apologize. Thanks again!

Lithoform Engine doesn’t make a creature a copy of another creature. It copies abilities (activated or triggered) and spells. I’m mostly asking about if Ria Ivor can make twice as many Mites with Lithoform Engine’s first activated ability, and at what point I can activate Lithoform Engine to facilitate this.

    Ria Ivor, Bane of Bladehold
    Lithoform Engine
    Eager Cadet

If I begin combat with these cards on the field and 2 mana available via, let’s say 2 untapped basic lands (and here assuming nothing else on the battlefield or in any players’ hands), will I be able to go into combat, Target Ria Ivor with her own triggered ability, then activate Lithoform Engine when she hits, or can I only activate Lithoform Engine at the beginning of combat step? Furthermore, if the latter, is it more “optimal” to target Ria twice, or both creatures?

  • posted a message on Basic Land transcriptions in Phyrexian language?
    Hey all,

With the creation of the Jumpstart Swamp in Phyrexian, we are left without any basic land in the language other than that one, so far.

As such, I was curious as to what the best/most accurate translation would be for each basic land type. We have Swamp already.

I am not a linguist, however, and I can't even speak more than English with any fluency, so I'm just about useless here. But, if anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

What all are we thinking about Terror of the Peaks? Does this 5-drop Dragon do better for us with Warstorm Surge, replacing it, or elsewise?

    What is it?

    EDIT:
    Garruk, Unleashed 2GG
    Legendary Planeswalker - Garruk
+1: Target creatures gets +3/+3 and gains Trample until end of turn.
-2: Create a 3/3 green Beast creature token. Then, if an opponent controls more creatures than you, put a loyalty counter on Garruk, Unleashed.
-7: You get an emblem with "At the beginning of your final step, you can search your library for a creature card, put it on the battlefield, and then shuffle your library."

I am wondering something to this effect, sorry for threadjacking - its not in any way tangential!

So, Sea-Dasher Octopus has mutated onto an animated Inkmoth Nexus. Congrats, you've done that part and now your Octopus has infect and flying. Does that infect and flying last "until end of turn", as per the text of the animation ability for Nexus (to be activated later at the behest of the controller of the Octopus), or is it indefinite, not requiring any sort of re-activation of that ability? Also, if that ability is activated again, does the Octopus become a 1/1 as well as gaining the relevant keywords (and for how long?), or is that part ignored?

    Thank you!

Is this due to rule 706.2, perhaps? Could you give me the rundown of exactly why it works? I’m simply asking because one of my friends who is also a judge is unsure of the interaction and it’s a tricky one to get, so hence the initial question anyway, haha

    Hey there,

If I copy Muldrotha, the Gravetide with Protean Thaumaturge and there’s a Mirror Gallery out, then I cast an enchantment (no other types) from my graveyard using the Protean-Muldrotha, 1) can I choose to re-copy Muldrotha with the Protean, and 2) if I can and do, can I use the Protean-Muldrotha to cast another enchantment (with no additional types) from my graveyard?

I don't want to bring this into CCC, but I'll throw my hat in and speculate a card that allows a break in Comp. Rule 707.6, something that will allow its controller to rearrange the facedown creatures they control in some fashion, similarly to Jeskai Infiltrator, perhaps, while still keeping the facedown creatures fully hidden (since Comp. 707.6 says if a facedown card was to leave the battlefield it is revealed first).

Wouldn't that be exciting for this deck's purposes? Grin

Any love for Ilharg, the Raze-Boar in this deck? I'm not 100% sure we need Piggy Piggy Sooey, and since we just have a lot of smaller value creatures this may not be totally of relevance, but reusing ETBs is nice.

I've played with Experimental Frenzy and let me tell you that card is indeed bonkers. Look up my anecdote earlier in the thread for more on that.

I am seriously of the consideration that Experimental Frenzy + Top is a hit, especially if we can make Top free (though that was true in blue with Future Sight anyway - BUT WE AREN'T PLAYING BLUE!). I especially like that whatever combo that can let you draw your deck out (hi there Foundry Inspector/Helm of Awakening!) costs 1 less to fire, and is less color-intensive than Future Sight/Magus to begin with. I honestly don't think it matters that you can't play your enormous hand for a turn, so long as you can keep your hand intact and/or recur what you'd have to discard, because next turn (or sooner!) you pop the Frenzy and go nuts. Either way, without a free Top, an effective "1: Draw a card" is WICKEDLY strong, even it it's just to draw lands.

I kind of think that it's best with infinite red mana (barirng mono-C, what deck isn't?), but again, it can function extremely well without that boost. Nonetheless it's absolutely worth inclusion - I stand by my assessment (though I'm open to opinions and a change or heart if it's truly THAT bad).

EDIT: Just played a 3-man game (vs. Adamaro, First to Desire and Ramos superfriends) with the goal of making this work. Not only did it work - and thankfully I actually had a max hand size of 7 at EOT because Adamaro player would've played Gaze of Adamaro and dealt 41 or so to me after I drew 34 cards for nothing - but it got me my combo pieces for Kiki/Conscripts and won it for me by association. It truly is that good.

Hey Cap! (Nice avatar fyi - WAAAAAAAAAAA!)

Regarding your deck info on TappedOut, I see you're in the dilemma of what to focus on - ETB Control versus All-In Chaos.

From my personal experiences I have to say that if you make ETB Control your focal point, you'll have a significantly stronger deck, but not lose out on much of the chaos that Norin is known for. You can still run Wheel effects because you need to refill your hand. You can still run Planar Chaos to slow the game down to your liking (same goes for Tangle Wire). Heck, Warp World and its ilk are fantastic for imposing diminishing returns unto an opponent or three, while still coming out on top with umpteen bazillion ETBs thanks to the tokens you warped away. The chaos can remain! You just need to figure out the proper chaos to harness, and how it helps you most.

As for All-In Chaos, I think it middles the average win rate to closer to 50/50 if the meta doesn't get sick of it. In plainer terms, it wins when it wins, and loses when it loses. It turns the deck, though, into a gimmick build and you may grow tired of that with time. IMHO better to have a deck with a commander you like stick around for more than a few games, than have a deck that is scrapped once it does its thing.

TLDR; ETB Control is the way to go.

BTW I made some slight edits to my own build, for the better: Norin 3: Nuclear Begalee
