Vid 1 is in portugese (brazillian?). Standard Mono-U with Essence captures
Game 1 - U vs UR - A Natural Obsession Stomp vs 2 land
Game 2 - U vs URW - A Natural Obsession Stomp - early concession
Vid 2 is same deck
Game 1 - vs UR - Obsession Stomp - t3 Concession
Game 2 - vs U - Counterspell THEIR obsession (turn 4), Djinn Beatdown after counterwars
first 4 he plays first
Game 3 - vs RW - Creature Battle. Some interaction, not with the plays I would make, he gets a Djinn and some little guys, puts an Obsession on and wins a closer one.
Vid 3
Game 1 - vs RW - Turn 2 Trickster, Why doesn't he play the obsession on turn 3? - Turn 4 Concession
Game 2 - vs W - Early Creatures, Essence capture good. Djinn gets a Conclave. Poor Trickster play, should have killed an Adanto Vanguard. Ordinary play leads to a loss he should have won.
Game 3 - GB - On Draw - Huh? Why didn't he Essence capture the first enemy creature? Instead he plays a Trickster, and then attacks without the casting Obsession. (multiple DD in hand.Draws and plays a Pter, puts an Obsession on it. Why no block and kill the 3/2 with his 2/2 trickster? Why does he not cast the OPT with spare mana? Rides the Pter with obsession to Victory.
Not great play, but does demonstrate how the deck abuses Obsession. Every game he gets one.
I think he goes first 6 games in 8.
Single games, no sideboard
Interesting, but, well, this guy seems to be a bit of a beginner.
I posted it because I thought it might be interesting for some people to once see some Pteramander, Essence Capture and Quench in play.
I've been trying to decide whether or not Benthic Biomancer is a card worthy of our attention. I saw some of the posts here and wrote him off initially. However, MerfolkJoe came out with a video comparing him to Thraben Inspector, a card that actually sees some play in some strategies, and the comparisons seem pretty sound to me. What do you guys think?
„The natural home for Sphinx of Foresight is Mono-Blue Tempo. This deck is geared around the power of a single card: Curious Obsession. 0-mana card selection will increase the number of perfect draws, and the fail case of a 4/4 flyer for 4 mana isn’t super embarrassing. Here is how I would build it, partly inspired by whyjesse’s Mythic Reddit post:“
Cinder Lash
RG Enchantment Rare
Whenever an opponent casts a non-creature spell, Cinder Lash deals 1 damage to that player.
1, Sacrifice Cinder Lash: Destroy target artifact or enchantment. Cinder Lash deals 2 damage to that permanent's controller.

What do you think about this Naban Merfolk Wizard list?
It has still 4 cards too many in the deck. What would you cut / add / change?
This obviously isn't the new standard way to go for Merfolk decks, but maybe it can challenge our way of thinking a little
The sub-goal would be to really annoy our opponents by tapping, bouncing, countering and thus hindering his usual gameplan.
With some lists running white for Lingering Souls, I went to the first page and read through the primer but did not find anything about Bitterblossom. What's the general thought on this? Has it already been discussed?
In my eyes, Bitterblossom could be a good SB card in the right matchup, if not a 1-2 of in the MB:
- it's in the right color
- it helps attack from a different angle (go wide strategy and flying)
- it helps us to lose life for our DS
- but it can also act as a life-saving engine
- it improves control matchups
- it defends our threats against LotV
How about Aquitect's Will in a Simic build instead of Spreading Seas, because we don't need the devotion off of the enchantment? Obviously, it does not colorscrew the opponent, but it is cheaper and thus lower to the ground, which is exactly the plan of MerfolkJoe's list and is also what Nikachu often sais in his videos. What do you think?
i really like that it's a cantrip, and the 1-mana cost is relevant in a deck filled with 2-drops. I'd probably consider it over sea's claim in the simic version if I wanted to go 8-seas or 6-seas effects in the maindeck.
Also, it triggers Merrow Reejerey.
Wow I missed the fact that it also triggers Merrow Reejerey that's even cooler
(But at least the version of MerfolkJoe for example doesn't even play Merrow Reejerey.)
But you don't think one could replace Spreading Seas with it?

The problem with this card I think , is that you don’t denial the land you choose , it just add the island unless sea’s claim ! And the color/land denial is almost as important than the fact that it gives us the possibility to break through
PS : sorry for my miserable english writing
No worries.
In fact, I think it depends whether your intention for the Spreading Seas effect is mainly to colorscrew the opponent or to get yourself islandwalk and at the same time be as mana efficient as possible. Therefore obviously depends on the meta, but I could see a world where Aquitect's Will feels better since I most often just use the effect to get myself islandwalk.

Instant speed edict with potential discard (obviously also at instant speed..)!
Definitely interesting to watch

Nothing groundbreaking new, but for those who wanna have some more actual gameplay on the new cards.

Wizard's Retort seem interesting too. So many wizards in the deck by now. Between Wizard's Retort, Merfolk Trickster, Benthic Biomancer's activated ability (at least; you could also count Venser, Shaper Savant, Vendilion Clique and Echoing Truth) you already have quite some stuff to do at instant speed..!

Let me know what you think!
With Resplendent Mentor for example for infinite life
The decklist is now here: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=116830
And the lands are very interesting...
