Hmm... To have an idea or post dismissed because of your screen name seems a little out there, usually I'll read the post first, then see if the name is familiar. I guess I never put so much weight in someones choice for their screen name. It obviously means something to them.
It's possible the magazines are feeling the same crunch that the major newspaper outlets have suffered. The internet is simply the best way to get your news, whether it's about the world or Magic or any other game. Especially with Magic, where the metagame could have shifted twice by the time a magazine hits the shelves. On top of this, ask yourselves if you can name 3 'major' magazine writers for Magic? I can't even name 1. Now name 3 major online contributors? You get my point.
It's still sad. There is nothing like fresh ink, especially ink devoted to Magic.
It works fine with two articles like these which both have broad appeal, but it would be really harsh on someone who'd written a minority article. In an eight slot poll they might get enough votes, but once it came down to two slots then all the people who didn't care about (say) Vintage would all vote the other way.
But isn't the vote for the article that more people like? Hence the "broad appeal".
Please do not misconsture this; why does the term midget carry negative connotations? I've actually always used the term dwarf(a friend, who is a dwarf, always referred to himself as a dwarf, so I did the same), and was just curious why it is such a bad term.
I agree with Nai, though I might have a higher comfort level with anybody different than I. I still respect any attempt to assimilate the rest of us, and appreciate everything you said.
