May 21, 2018toctheyounger77 posted a message on Ravnica: The Broken GuildpactFair enough! I guess it just comes across that way in a summary article because there are so many guilds to track through ~1-2 pages of information. I always thought the nephilim would play more of a part, too, considering how unique they are.Posted in: Articles

Feb 27, 2018toctheyounger77 posted a message on Time Spiral and the MendingThanks so much Jay. This is the last bit of lore I've really wanted to know for a while. Teferi being one of my favourite characters and wanting to know more about the Mending and 'modern Bolas', this was a great read, and well timed coming into Dominaria.Posted in: Articles

Sep 27, 2017toctheyounger77 posted a message on Who is the Raven Man?Great article. Long but not unnecessarily. I can pretty well agree with the conclusion too. My first thought was Leshrac, but not knowing a HUGE amount of older lore (I started playing at a young age), Leshrac seems unlikely. Lim-Dul fits the bill. It would be a great twist at some point too.Posted in: Articles
What are the odds the reveal happens in the upcoming Dominaria set next year? Fingers crossed. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
There's a couple of spots I'm thinking of as flexes (Inspiring Statuary is my big one rn) so I might try The Eldest Reborn and see how it plays out. I think timing is probably key in getting max value from it.
That being said, the bits I can't get redundancy for (specifically Tombstone Stairwell, but also Kindred Discovery, Eldrazi Monument and Alhamarret's Archive if you run it) are worth being able to bring out at the right time, so if I were to run one of the harder tutors I'd probably run Enlightened Tutor. I've got a spare Diabolic Intent and I've tossed up running it here, but....*shrug*.
I share the same reservations to be honest. BBBB is difficult in a tricolour deck, and it has no evasion. I haven't seen it recently in my Glissa build to know if it's pulling weight there, so I had thought of trying it here, purely because my build definitely has the 'árchenemy' vibe to it. I may have to try out Grave Titan, it seems to have decent enough value.
Ugin has been great for me. The static ability aside, his first ability is awesome, those spirit tokens are made to chump block. It actually kind of forces the difficult decision of 'if I swing and he chumps, what is he going to draw into?'. Last game I had Ugin in play, those cards were Spark Double and Sheoldred, Whispering One. Add in his removal and he really is multifunctional and good value. I'd say Sorin Markov you wouldn't miss swapping him in.
How have Deliver unto Evil and The Eldest Reborn worked out? They seem reasonable as stop gaps for the times I can't find a blocker. Interested to hear how The Elderspell is working out, too. Seems fairly conditional, but I guess some of the ultimates out there are probably worth it.
I can see it being a decent mana sink if you can produce gross amounts, and the death trigger is just excellent. Altar of Dementia would be my sac outlet of choice here if it's gonna get big. Still, yeah, pretty casual. That's cool though, because Hydra is a great tribe that seems a lot of fun.
I've also had a Grave Titan come free, so wondering if this has held its own here; likewise with Archfiend of Depravity. I've found it's nice to have early walkers, but it definitely draws attention if you don't have something to protect it - I've been tossing up freeing up a Phyrexian Obliterator for this too, purely for presenting a difficult choice to opponents in swinging at me (although admittedly BBBB is tough for tri colours). Also, in this respect I can really recommend Ugin, the Ineffable as a great option. He makes your rocks more or less free, his spirits are excellent chump blockers that you sort of want to die anyway, and his third ability is obviously great control.
Agreed - I think once you've been playing a while someone pinching your stuff has an air of 'ýou did this to yourself', but being new to the format it does make folk a little salty.
All in all, I was pleased with the win and with some of the cards I had yet to playtest, but just as pleased that everyone had a great game, as I've been worried the deck is a little griefy.
In:
Izzet Signet
Blast Zone
Out:
Clock of Omens
Swamp
Omens needs a slightly heavier weight of rocks to see a significant impact. I was tossing up removing this or Inspiring Statuary, as either have their pros and cons, but I think for the moment Omens was the right choice. Blast Zone was not in the right place in Glissa, whereas here I can proliferate the hell out of it, and I have a little more incidental mana to drop on it.
I've also now got a free Grave Titan, which I've seen mentioned in WizardMN's list as a reasonable deterrant to combat, so I'd be interested in how that has played out. I've been tossing up trying to squeeze it in here; either that or Phyrexian Obliterator, no one wants to be chump blocked by that thing.
Command the Dreadhorde becomes Patriarch's Bidding
Noosegraf Mob becomes Zombie Apocalypse
I'll hold on to the other little bits for now and see how these play out for now. Obviously will be trying to squeeze Corpse Knight in somewhere in the next few weeks too, so I'll make more changes then. I'm also on the ropes about my existing Zedruu the Greathearted deck, which I haven't played in months. It has an Alhamarret's Archive in it, so I could potentially pull it apart for value and bolster Varina's draw ability. I've yet to decide, but it's a possibility. I'm sort of waiting for a commander I want to build around that could use some of the pieces I've got in my folder. They're mostly WG, but I'm not sure who if anyone deserves a new build. I'll mull it over.
For more Mappo flavour stick a Colossal Hammer in it.
Made me think of D&D more than anything, but Malazan flavour is way better.
You could always meet her halfway with something like Wayward Swordtooth. It does well in my Nissa build.
This speaks to a need for immediate impact, to my mind. I would definitely look at getting Gray Merchant of Asphodel into the list. Totally feasible in a bicolour list, and recurring it will just get you there really quickly. Koko I can definitely see missing, purely because it requires a little more finagling and repetition to win with, but Gary is well worth it for immediate value and the possibility of being a really solid finisher.
Patriarch's Bidding
Zombie Apocalypse
Talisman of Hierarchy
As well as a copy of Infernal Darkness, which I'd been thinking of maybe squeezing in. Not entirely sure it'll fit well, but it's not the worst idea to my mind, considering we've got colour fixing rocks and mass reanimation spells to keep us going. Plus it's something else Aminatou can keep going, and something for Soul Diviner to draw from.
Here's what's potentially on the chopping block for these:
Command the Dreadhorde
Read the Runes
Noosegraf Mob
Forgotten Creation
I'll unpack the deck tonight and see what my thoughts are, these seem reasonable to chop.
Sakura-Tribe Elder, Sword of the Animist, Signets/Talismen
Removal
Beast Within/Generous Gift, Toxic Deluge, [c]Anguished Unmaking[c/]
Tutors
I only use them if they apply to the list I'm running. Sidisi, Undead Vizier is decent. Green Sun's Zenith is stalwart too.
Card Draw:
Necropotence, Phyrexian Arena, Greater Good, Consecrated Sphinx
Grave Hate
Bijuka Bog, Scavenging Ooze, Withered Wretch
Recursion
Living Death, Eternal Witness/Archaeomancer et al, Sun Titan , Emeria Shepherd
