I have used http://www.abugames.com a few times and they have been good. Their prices are good and shipping is reasonable. I am pre-ordering theme decks and a booster box and it all looks pretty good.

I am a big fan of alternative ways of casting huge creatures so I look for cards that help that. I really think Deathrender could be pretty cool since it's a way of transforming a sacrificed goblin into a Giant (literal or figurative) in the first few turns.

I'd say almost every single world leader would be White/Black, and a few would have blue or red mixed in. And a fine few would have a smidgen of green.

So they can be run Tarmogoyf and make half the people in this forum mad about it? ( I am looking at you Pratibha Patil)

Planeswalkers are not creature (Plainswalkers are and that was funny ShaolinDolemite). I don't even get how this conversation is happening. Experimental Kraj says creatures, Planeswalkers are not creatures. leading to the fact that they cannot block or attack. Functionally they may seem to be creatures, but it may make more sense to see them as your sidekick.

Reading the thread is savage tech. Teach Closing this one down for now. -Woap

I name my decks like children. My decks are Robert, Sylvia, Ryan, and Thomas. Just my thing though, but it gets a laugh out of folks.

You are dead on Ark. My graduate thesis had a lot to do with the notion of fun, playfulness, and trickery coming back into "avante-garde" painting. The days of intellectual and esoteric artwork seems to be disappearing (for the mean time) and the work that people are getting excited about is way more inviting, sexy, goofy, and beautiful. Of course there are always exceptions within a paradigm, but a lot of things seem to be shifting away from Red Ocean now.
ps- Anyone who can bring Harvard Political Economy into a MTG forum gets my vote for something.

The Elf deck looks pretty cohesive for a precon. Thanks for the info.

Yeah I agree with the whole showing your kids/showing your mom thing. Lorwyn is denifitely more friendly and approachable.

I recently got back into magic, spent $300 on cards, etc... then I went to a couple tournaments and the people there... well... I didn't like them at all and I stopped playing again. Maybe Lorwyn will bring a friendlier, cheerier, less cliquey crowd around.

Yeah, that is where I was at too. I recommend finding friends that you already associate with. On Monday it was Poker, Tuesday drunk Halo, and Friday is Magic with the family. A couple of old friends come over too, but they are more Starship Catan boardgame guys, but it's all about socializing.

Thanks Ark. I haven't touched the game in 10 years and this is the first time I have been tempted to get back into it. Most of the games out there are way to Agro (Not the MTG term) for my tastes. Since I am 30, married, and have a son there isn't a ton of time for me to dedicate to tournaments and buying lots of cards anymore. Lorwyn is appealing to me because there are a number of fun looking dynamics to the set AND my wife has recently taken an interest (because of the art). I am a professional artist and I think this set is amazing. Conceptually the art, abilities, casting costs, etc are all very cohesive. I think this makes it a great set.
This will be a fun game for us to play at home on a Friday night. To all of you competitive young kids: There will most likely come a time where you want to spend time at home with your family and not out with the other nerds at your local gaming store. While I miss MY nerd days, but I have found that I don't have to sacrifice Magic to have a good quality family night. Lorwyn should help this and has already brought my nterest back into the game. I am trading played Revised dual lands for precon Lorwyn decks and could not be happier.

  • posted a message on Boldwyr Intimidator + Shields = Profit?
It works, but I think you are right. It would cost an awful lot to get that to trigger. I think just pumping a few red mana into the Intimidator to Cowardize your opponent's creatures would be way more likely. The Shields can be a gravy move, but not something I would hold out for.

I think once it leaves play the effects momentarily disappear, thus the cards are still removed from play, and no longer available. When it comes back, you get 7 new cards. Now if you have multiple copies in play you can load up the pool of cards.
