What do you all use to represent mana/storm count in paper? Where can you find the red/blue mana cards that SCG uses on stream?

    Amonkhet foil full art island
Hour of devastation foil full art mountain
    Unstable foil storm crow token

As a control player at heart, I’m just popping by to say congratulations.

I can appreciate the evil of the deck, and Zerodown you must be delighted.

If it couldn’t be us I’m glad it was you lot.

Can anybody help me maybe with deck construction or play ?

I read in the matchup list that GBx is a hard matchup and I can confirm that in my experience, but I'm wondering how in the actual heck we beat them without them having bad luck ? (me getting lucky isn't enough since they just remove any amount of my luck in one way or another)

I haven't bought a blood moon online yet, is that enough to significantly swing the match one way or another postboard ?

Let me know what you all have found useful against these kinds of decks

Against gds I’ve found a turn two blood moon hurts them - especially with the new rules where they can’t lose two life when a shock comes in regardless.

Also, bring in bolts against GDS and try to naturally draw a grapeshot. Ritual-bolt-grape usually kills them.

Pieces of the puzzle is great all round tech against anything black

    Hi guys,
I was playing this deck from some time ago in differents versions. Actually, are a lot of people playing this deck and is the only deck I'm owning now, so I'm scared about a ban.
Do you think is possible a near future ban? And do you think if wizards ban the deck it will be unplayable?
It taked a lot of time to me to build, I didn't have so much money so i started with a budget build and i'm seeing that i should sell all the deck soon if i don't want to lose my money Frown

We will have to wait for the pro tour. There’s always going to be complaining about storm because people hate losing to it. As it stands at the moment, there are so many answers to every trick the deck has that I don’t think it deserves a ban.

That said, I took storm apart last Saturday because we’ve gone from two players at my lgs including me to 8. There’s just too much hate out there so I’m going to wait for the trend to pass.

The masters of modern podcast said grapeshot should be banned and we can have aetherflux reservoir and empty and dragon storm, and that would be ‘more fun’ which I think is ridiculous.

If WotC really wanted to ban storm they’d have banned grapeshot and empty and been done with it.

I have 2 peer in my list and it has worked perfectly for me in my last 300 games. I haven't changed any single card since then:

    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/743466#online

I'm pretty convinced the third grapeshot and the noxious are more frequently bad than good. Too situational. Peer is amazing in general, but especially with the splice mechanic and in post board games, which are the most complicated usually.

I might just emulate this list then. Thanks a lot!

    Hey all.

I’m running the list with fetches, short story is I’ve just got peer through depths and I want to jam two in. Running the usual core with 7 mancers, 1 Noxious revival, 3 remands, three grapeshot and an empty in the main. I have room for one peer as it stands, but I’d like two. What do I do?

Go to two grapeshot in the main?

Go to two remands in the main?

Lose empty? (There are a few decks that mainboard leyline of sanctity and what have you, so I don’t like that)

    Or is one peer enough?

How important is the one-of Noxious Revival in the mainbaord? I do like what you can do with gifts piles so I think I will try it out.

I have more games where it comes up and does something the opponent hates than where it doesn't.

Like EOT Gifts getting countered so I just put it right back on top and Gifts again on my own turn and set up for a combo turn next.

    Or gifting for a reducer.

Or getting a binned PiF back into the hand so I can use it twice when the other has been exiled by TKS.

Or saving something from Surgical Extraction.

Or getting a Reducer back on T3 that was played and killed on turn 2 so I can combo off.

I've even turned it into a ritual during a combo turn ; Reducer, Ritual, Morphose, Noxious, gifts in hand. I go Ritual (RRR), Noxious the Ritual back on top, Morphose to draw Ritual (UURR), Ritual (UURRRR), Gifts + 3 mana floating. Noxious reduces the randomness of Morphose (and all cantrips) draws. Anyone who has used this card and mastered it will know what I mean.

inb4 Noxious is Card Disadvantage: This deck doesn't win using card advantage.

I'm using it tonight for these reasons.

Need some help as a new storm player.

Considering bringing this deck to a Team Unified Modern tournament. However, I am unable to use lightning bolt in the sideboard due to our team having a burn deck. It seems that this card is here in a narrow role for killing some problematic creatures (Baral in the mirror, what else?), and could be replaced by Flame Slash with minimal losses in terms of sideboard utility.

What do others think? Is it still viable without this piece? is Flame Slash a reasonable alternative? Are there other options (forked bolt, sudden shock, incinerate) that would accomplish the same things REASONABLY well (of course there is not obvious replacement, or people would play that instead)

For reference, the other deck I have available is Counters Company WITHOUT path to exile in the board there. Seems like missing lightning bolt is a lower impact than missing path there. Love to hear your ideas

Bolt is twofold - it gets rid of problem creatures like Baral and Eidolon of the Great Revel, and it can be used against players in matchups like Bxx shadow for a bolt-cantrip-morphose-grapeshot (or whatever) surprise win out of nowhere

they didnt said ANYTHING about other formats? really? its a shame

They said everything they needed to say about Modern the last time - basically that the meta was healthy and there was no need to interfere. Why rehash it? Or did you want them to talk about why they didn't unban xyz? Then they'd have to go into every banned card which takes too much time when the article was really about standard.

"No changes" was all we needed to hear.

I am considering buying into this deck. I always wanted to try a UR archetype and this seems to be super fun (at least for the one playing it). Could you guys sum up the pros and cons of playing a deck like this one? First of, it is super cheap, and I already own many pieces. I have been reading the premier and I have a clearer idea of how it works. Never played against it with my BW tokens deck (the one I usually take to FNM's) so haven't directly faced its consistency and reach.

    Thanks a lot!

    Pros:

Skill-testing - you really have to think about this deck and what lines you take. You have to know a bit about the decks you are playing against.
Gifts Ungiven - a fascinating, psychological battle of a card
Rewards knowledge and practice - the more you play it, the better you get.
Fun - I really enjoy playing the deck.

    Cons:
Bxx shadow is big and that means hand destruction that Storm is weak to.
Hate - there is so much out there that hoses storm one way or another. Playing around it cam be a fun challenge
Fragility - Fatal Push can easily kill off engines we need to go off. And Bolt.

I went 3-1 at FNM last week - my best ever Modern FNM finish.

    R1 - Jeskai Control

G1 - waited for him to tap out, T4 Grapeshot kill
Sided in interaction - Swan Song, Negate, Echoing Truth just in case.
G2 - he seized control and beat me with a man land
G3 - Managed to dump rituals into a Warren beatdown early on

    R2 - Ad Nauseum

This was one of the best games of magic I've ever played. It has all blurred into one, but I know that he went off once, and I went off twice, with him using the Archangels Light to try and fight through to no avail. I brought in Wear/Tear and the counterspells. HAllowed Fountain saved me in one of the games because I managed to blow up his Leyline and his Phyrexian Unlife with the same wear/tear and past in flames.

    Round 3 - Merfolk

    Game 1 - T4 Grapeshot Kill
Sided in Ehoing Truth and counterspells
G2 - he drew all his counters and kept me out of it.
G3 - He got mana screwed, tapped out his 2 islands, I EoT Gifts, he scoops.

    Round 4 - Burn.
    G1 - He plays T2 Eidolon, T3 Eidolon. I cry.
I side in 3 Bolts, swan song, 2 wear tears, 1 Echoing truth
G2 - it got hairy. I cast an electromancer and say go on 6 life. He goes straight to combat and swings with 2 swiftspears and a goblin guide. I block a swiftspear, and he didn't cast anything in response!. I combo off the turn after on one life.
G3 - Got a lot of Goblins from Warrens after killing an Eidolon, but too little too late.

I'm feeling a lot more confident with this now. Was at a GPT on Saturday that didn't go so well (1-2-2) but I'll write that up another time.
