Im going for Abzan too and spended a lot of money buying 4 Chords, and now Im seeing people using Stampede instead =( it makes me sad

Don't be sad. Check out Ryan's article on Star City about Abzan elves. He runs one Chord main next to three Lead the Stampede. Then runs two Chord in the Sideboard. He explains why in the article.

I have more white because my sideboard is mainly white. The black sources are really only for shaman and the one or two black cards in the Sideboard. I also run two elves of the deep shadow as well.

I`m going for the Abzan side, this mana base looks all right?

I recently decided to go abzan as well. My mana base is as follows:

    2 razorverge
    2 blooming marsh
    3 gilt-leaf palace
    4 horizon canopy
    2 forest
    1 mutavault
    1 westvale Abbey
    2 cavern of souls
    1 pendlehaven

I am running two cavern and 4 horizon canopy's. I like cavern of souls but it does little if you are trying to cast non creature spells or creatures without the chosen type. It does tap for colorless which helps it some. My meta isn't very heavy with control so I don't really feel the need to run four. For me, horizon canopy is awesome. Being able to draw cards is very beneficial. Like others have said... It's really a meta call.

Westvale Abbey is also good against board wipes...

What do we think of this?

Correct me if I am wrong here but, what elves do we have in our deck lists that come in with +1/+1 counters? To me this would just be a 2/1 elf for 2 mana. As the text says "enters the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counter" not enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter. So by that account it really wouldn't do anything for us.

I used to play joraga warcaller but, I ended up taking him out. He is good but I'd rather dump my mana into Ezuri so all my elves get trample. It's pretty sweet to kick joraga for a ton of mana but when they chump block with a 1/1 it really sucks. I always found I would only kick him once anyways. So instead I added a different 3 mana Lord. Plus he doesn't do anything if you CoCo into him...

I think the curio version runs 4 nettle sentinels... That way you can infinite mana, combined with heritage druid, and essentially make infinite tokens from dwyens elite.

I've also seen a blue green version that uses Beck//Call. Beck allows you to draw a card when a creature enters the battlefield this turn. So basically it's like legacy elves and allows you to dig for your huge win condition card like craterhoof. Combo Beck//Call with forbidden orchard and it really can get wild.

I made the addition of a Westvale Abbey to my deck and haven't looked back. It's won me games against control decks. I definitely don't use it as a win condition. It's only used in response to a sweeper or as a last resort.

I was in a game where I was in a fast start, getting in some damage here and there. Then I couldn't draw in to anything that kept up the tempo. My opponent kept tapping my creatures and I wasn't able to untapped them. And kept attacking me with his flyer. I had no choice but to flip my Westvale. I ended up winning the match but, that's all I could do. Normally I wouldn't have done it that way but, I had too!

    In main deck or sideboard?

I ended up changing my sideboard down from 3 Pay no heed to 2.
Running Spellskite and Ooze main deck. Adding an Aven Mindcensor to my Side Board. So that leaves me with 2 open slots. One for Chameleon Colossus and one for ?

And then I was going to take one of my Shamans out for an Imperious Perfect over Elvish Champion. Not sure if that's the right answer or not.

From the modern night I went to in my area, there was a lot of removal going on.

Good points. I think I will take out an Ezuri and Riftsweeper for Scavenging Ooze and Spellskite. Maybe the right thing is to play one Shaman that way it is less likely to draw. I've considered running G/B but, I feel the white sideboard cards are more powerful.

I'm not sure what the discussion has been but, I've considered Quest for Renewal. I just think it's too slow in a deck like this.

I really only put the Shamans in there to get from Chord or CoCo. I figured it would be a nice addition in response to a board wipe main deck. The reason for the Llanowar Wastes is because that's all I had that produced black in the off chance I draw a Shaman.

Yes Riftsweeper isn't the greatest but it can answer a living end or anything else with suspend. Which I find can be problematic sometimes.

I guess I'm unfamiliar with what cards are considered bullets in the Sideboard.

    Hi,

I recently came in to the world of competitive magic and have always liked elves. I decided to build an elf deck that I thought would be competitive. I recently came across this forum and was overwhelmed by how many pages there are on this subject! Needless to say, I haven't read them all... But here is what I came up with:

    2 Boreal Druid
    4 Dwyen's Elite
    4 Archdruid
    4 Mystic
    4 Heritage Druid
    4 Llanowar elves
    4 Visionary
    4 Ezuri
    3 Sylvan Messenger
    2 Shaman of the Pack
    1 Riftsweeper

    Spells
    3 Chord
    4 Collected Company

    Lands
    4 Horizon Canopy
    4 Razorverge Thicket
    2 Nyxthos
    2 Llanowar Wastes
    3 Forest
    1 Temple Garden
    1 Pendelhaven

    Sideboard
    1 Kataki
    1 Reclamation Sage
    1 Scavenging Ooze
    1 Melira
    1 Selfless Spirit
    1 Spellskite
    2 Forge Tender
    1 Rest in Piece
    1 Stony Silence
    1 Gust
    1 Path
    3 Pay no heed

Sorry for the long post, I'm not sure how to link all the stuff like in previous posts. This is my first post... Still learning the ways.
