I've got three modern decks I play regularly, eldrazi D&T, burn, and RG titanshift/breach. I don't really have a preference it's just what I prefer to play.
My only real beef is with combos that take a long time to finish, like turns or storm. That being said they aren't unbearable and sometimes it feels so good to just make them fizzle with a Thalia.
A lot of people have problems with tron and lantern but I like the challenge of the uphill battle, both decks have a lot of sideboard hate against them. Maybe that's just me as an annoying D&T player lol. If I'm lazy I'll just bring scapeshifts.
So I'm currently debating between 2x EE and 2x Chalice of the Void for sideboard. Haven't played with either in this deck and I'm curious which one you guys think is better.
So there is really no reason to quote anyone seeing as a lot of you guys are regurgitating the same facts, and all of you have good and valid points. I also believe that a big part of one's opinion on the modern metagame really comes from what deck one plays. Personally i like to play eldrazi hatebear and I've been playing Junk since Theros.
I'm Glad someone brought up the Aaron Forsythe article. Aaron said this, "[Modern should]Not be dominated by fast, non-interactive decks (consistent kills before turn four are a red flag)".
I think that while there are indeed decks doing this rather consistently such as infect, modern is in a very good state of diversity right now. If you look at tournament results the decklists are A LOT more diverse than last winter(lol). Of course infect and dredge make up a big portion, but are they DOMINATING? Imho, no.
Now, on to bannings. A lot of people are talking about Inkmoth nexus. I don't agree with this ban. A big reason is people don't like that it is a fallback that the decks that utilize it can rely on to comeback and win... But if you look at the decks that do this, it's almost necessary that they have a backup in place. Infect runs, what, 12 creatures? Affinity has enough hate that Inkmoth nexus can become a nonfactor in a post sideboard matchup regardless. I personally think, if you are to nerf infect in anyway(i don't believe affinity needs a nerf) you should take out Become Immense, it is easily replaceable and just seems absurd to me in the infect deck.
At this moment, I'm not sure dredge needs any bannings for the same reason as affinity, post sideboard the deck takes an overall big hit.
As for those exact hate cards in question such as Rest In Peace, Stony Silence, Blood Moon, etc. some people think they should be banned to further expand diversity in modern, but I don't think that's what it will do at all. Banning certain hate cards like that would cause the very decks that they keep in check to run amuck. Do you want to be playing against storm and affinity every Modern League you join? I don't.
As for unbannings... I'm not too sure. I believe BBE could be unbanned at this point, BUT the spoiled Yahenni's Expertise leads me to believe (conjecture incoming) that BBE will not be unbanned, and this is Wizards sort of saying, "yea, we heard you." Which I'm not complaining about at all, being a Junk player and all (:
Let me know if you think I'm full of hot air or not, just made an account because I felt the need to write this post.
