So I'm working on an Otrimi, the Ever-Playful beast tribal deck concept on tappedout when I found an interesting interaction that I want to confirm if it works, or not. Here's the board state, Otrimi, the Ever-Playful currently has Boneyard Lurker mutated under it. There's also a Wirewood Savage and a Primeval Bounty in play, but they aren't relevant to my question, just showing you why I would want to do this.
I've been told by people before that you have to select targets for triggers as they are placed on the stack, so I'm like 50% sure this works. It would definitely work if I had another artifact to juggle with Sol Ring, or maybe even Hatching Plans, but that's iffy.
So recently I decided to build a deck that includes some of the silliest combos I've seen in the past few years. I'm talking about Moonmist transforming Azor's Gateway while March of the Machines is out and Mirror Entity makes everything all creature types. While testing the deck on Tappedout I realized that Thing in the Ice synergies well with the combo as it auto transforms and it doesn't bounce my creatures since Mirror Entity made them all creature types which includes Horror.
Pretty sure it's not a cost. Cost is what comes before the colon in an activated ability, or when you have to pay additional costs in order to cast a spell. In Gallia's case it's just part of her triggered ability. In no way is it a cost.
I reread the rules you sent, but I've never heard of consequences of triggered abilities referred to as costs. I would like a second opinion to clarify, because I spent all morning building this deck on tappedout. I'd like to know that I didn't waste my time.
So I'm brainstorming for a Gallia of the Endless Dance EDH deck and ran across Library of Leng. I know about the fact that Library of Leng won't trigger for cards that are discarded for a cost. I'm also pretty sure that the card Gallia of the Endless Dance discards is for her effect and not a cost since it's not an activated ability. I'm just wondering what would happen first.
Say I attack with 3 creatures, Gallia of the Endless Dance triggers, I discard a card for her triggered ability... Would Library of Leng put it on top of my library before I draw 2 cards, or after? I'm thinking it happens after since Gallia of the Endless Dance's ability isn't separated and should finish resolving before Library of Leng finishes resolving.
The idea gets complicated when I throw Helm of the Host into the mix. I plan on getting multiple Gallia of the Endless Dance triggers off of a single combat step. I'm guessing that Library of Leng would resolve after each one correct?
So I could for example...play Zacama, Primal Calamity from my graveyard with Horde of Notions, tap all my lands for mana in response to Zacama's etb, untap all my lands, sacrifice Zacama to Phyrexian Altar, and repeat from the first step to generate infinite mana? I was also wondering if Horde of Notions' ability ignores timing restrictions, or not. Can I do this at instant speed, or do I need another card like Alchemist's Refuge, or Leyline of Anticipation to complete the combo?
So, the Horde of Notions oracle text still says "play" rather than "cast" without paying mana cost. I was wondering if I could "cast" Zacama, Primal Calamity from my graveyard with Horde of Notions if I controlled an Arcane Adaptation naming "Elemental". Also, would Zacama, Primal Calamity's etb trigger? Horde of Notions still says "play" instead of "cast", but Zacama, Primal Calamity will only trigger if it is "cast". I know this is a terminology question, but I thought I should ask in case I'm missing something. Please explain why, or why not. Thank you in advance!
Can I cast spells in response to my own Time Stop? For example, let's say Swarm Intelligence is already in play. I then cast Time Stop which then is copied due to Swarm Intelligence. Then, holding priority, I cast Nexus of Fate which is also copied. Finally, I cast Remand which is also copied. I bounce the original Time Stop with the copy of Remand. I bounce the original Nexus of Fate with the original Remand. Take an extra turn after this one with the copy of Nexus of Fate. Finally ending the current turn with the copy of Time Stop. This would allow me to reuse the combo if I had a way to return Remand to my hand from the graveyard during my turn. Basically halting my opponents from doing anything that might shut me down.
Anyway, my main question here is if you can respond to your own Time Stop.
I have watched deck tech videos recently on how to build Etrata, the Silencer commander decks. Some people were putting phasing cards like Vanishing in their deck lists. I scoured the net to find out how phasing works with Etrata, the Silencer, but I couldn't find anything. There are literally no rules regarding this. In my mind, I think that once you attack, Etrata, the Silencer's trigger is on the stack, and you phase her out using Vanishing...wouldn't her trigger go away too since she no longer exists? If I'm wrong, and this actually works, I'm definitely using it.
Ok, so same scenario, but with Sol Ring getting blown up for a beast token. Then cast Hatching Plans and mutate Orimi, the Ever-Playful again to blow up Hatching Plans for a beast token AND return Sol Ring to my hand. This event would basically insure that I have 1 Sawtusk Demolisher target and 1 Boneyard Lurker target each time I mutate. This works, correct?
I first cast Sol Ring and put 3 +1/+1 counters on Otrimi, the Ever-Playful with Primeval Bounty. Then I cast Sawtusk Demolisher for its mutate cost targeting Otrimi, the Ever-Playful making a 3/3 beast token with Primeval Bounty and drawing a card with Wirewood Savage. Once it resolves the mutate triggers go on the stack.
Here's what I want to do. Just let me know if it works. I want to put Boneyard Lurker on the stack first then Sawtusk Demolisher. The Sawtusk Demolisher destroys my own Sol Ring giving me a 3/3 beast token and drawing a card off of Wirewood Savage. Then the Boneyard Lurker trigger returns that Sol Ring to my hand allowing me to cast it again to put 3 more +1/+1 counters on Otrimi, the Ever-Playful with Primeval Bounty.
I've been told by people before that you have to select targets for triggers as they are placed on the stack, so I'm like 50% sure this works. It would definitely work if I had another artifact to juggle with Sol Ring, or maybe even Hatching Plans, but that's iffy.
Then I cast Moonmist again for another card and realized that Awoken Horror could possibly transform back into Thing in the Ice from the effect of Moonmist since it's still a Human thanks to Mirror Entity.
So my question is if Awoken Horror can transform back if these special conditions are met.
I reread the rules you sent, but I've never heard of consequences of triggered abilities referred to as costs. I would like a second opinion to clarify, because I spent all morning building this deck on tappedout. I'd like to know that I didn't waste my time.
