I’ve had reasonable success at FNM without it. The Raise the Alarm version with more of a lean into an aggressive setup is faster and more stable against faster decks but sacrifices some of the inevitability and attrition of the Bitterblossom shell.
With the RtA shell it’s better to run more Zealous Persecution, Legions Landing and to lean towards Gideon more than Sorin. This gives a fairly aggressive build that can win games in earlier turns.
If you’re running the Bitterblossom shell you want to take advantage of the sheer value that gives you by running more control; turn up the hand control and removal a bit more and ride the fairy tokens to victory.
That makes a lot of sense. Which Gideon’s would you recommend? Ally of Zendikar?
Can this be played without Mox Opal? I love the concept of this deck but cannot afford Mox opals.
You will have to combo off later with extra mana, and your fizzle rate will go through the roof. If you switch to a red/white build using Leave // Chance as your bounce, you can kinda fake it with Simian Spirit Guide, but you will really miss the consistency the opals give you.
How about Springleaf Drum as a Mox Opal replacement? And/or how many simian spirit guides would you run? A playset?
Hey guys. How would you say mono white humans are compared to 5c? I’ve been looking at mono white for some time now and was interested in putting it together, but then didn’t want to waste my time if it won’t be any good.
You may want to include Field Marshal if you go mono white. Lieutenant and Champion are both Soldiers, and I think Thalia is also a Soldier.
I was looking at Field Marshall. He would definitely fit the theme. You think that style deck has enough going for it to be any good?
At GP phoenix I registered my first 4 red cards I've ever played in COMP Rel and went 12-3 in the main event. This was my first time going to a GP and it was a grind. Blood braid elf is a blast to play and here is the list of my match ups. Feel free to ask me anything I will do my best to respond
tie breakers were okay I squeezed into 25th place for my first GP. Things I would change going forward I don’t like visionary in this list it felt weak in most matchups i even boarded it out vs Jund lists. BBE is amazing in the Control and Midrange matchups and wildly okay in the aggro ones. Not great in the combo ones. So it seems like a meta dependent call on GBr vs straight GB with chords.
things of note I left my 4th Nettle Sentinel at home for some reason otherwise i would have ran it over the first Visionary, I don’t like it in the list with BBE just feels bad to play for some reason. It’s no Silvergill adept. (I’m a dirty fish player as well) the Deep shadow was fine for casting the black sideboard cards but also not really needed most of the time it should probably be a main deck rec sage. And the second lead in the main could be pretty much anything you wanted it to be.
Hey Andrew! Congrats on the finish, that’s awesome encouragement for the rest of the elf community. After watching your gameplay, I have to ask, is your whole deck foiled? Mine is almost there, all my creatures and half my lands are foiled.
Also, did you ever miss Chord of Calling? I never seem to find success with Lead the Stampede. Also, what were some of the hits off BBE?
Mono white has very few disruptive elements, so it's a different deck. It hasn't proven to be good enough. I suppose monoW Knights will be stronger than monoW Humans with the release of Dominaria. Knights will still be worse than 5C Humans though.
I believe Humans always splash a second color in the budget / all-in aggro versions anyway.
Correct me if I’m wrong. Mono white is more taxing and aggro where 5C is more disruption and control.
I don’t really see much in a Dominaria that would be an upgrade imo.

Everything else is going to take a dip in winning. I played Cheerios before and it did well. I'm not sure how well it will do when interacted with though. Mono White Humans just seems like extreme Aggro and that definitely has holes in it, like you probably saw from Mono Green Stompy. I'm not sure what Illusions is, but if it's the 2/2 Bear, 5/5 Dragon, the Lord, etc., then it is 100% worse than Spirits. I'm not sure why you didn't like this play style, but this deck can be very powerful. Watch Caleb Durward play Bant Spirits. So, I think the choice lies with one of the top 2 in my opinion.
Here's a question for you...do you want to play Aggro/Midrange or All in Combo?
P.S. - Blue Green Merfolk is not quite as clunky as the Mono Blue version. You may want to try that one.
My style is fast. Whether it’s drawing a ton of cards, playing a lot of value, or flooding the board fast. Anything that doesn’t do that makes me sleepy.
RG Eldrazi interests me because of BBE and Ancient Stirrings since they add speed. If money wasn’t an issue, I’d be running Affinity as it’s a crazy fast deck, but sadly the deck got super expensive. Are there any other decks out there I may like? What are some other fast explosive decks. Or decks that “go off”.
i dont think neither RG eldrazi nor storm is "explosive" (well both have explosive starts, but not affinity level).
look at dredge and elves, both are "dump hand" deck IMHO.
I currently run elves.
And yes, I know nothing will be as explosive as Affinity, but I’m just looking for other fast decks. I like playing creatures, I like to go wide, I like to swarm and win. I like to overwhelm to where they can’t come back.

Could use a little advice. I’m a very long time elf player. I love the deck and know it inside and out. During my tenure in modern, my other decks always seem to rotate because I never seem to truly enjoy them. So I’m looking for a new deck to love and keep for a long time with my precious elves. Cards I cannot afford are Snapcasters, Goyf, Liliana, Mox Opal. (The obvious expensive cards, but not a budget deck). I can pick up just about any other cards out there.

Hollow One (too random)
Bogles (boring)
All In Zoo (needed the nuts)
Spirits (not my playstyle)
Merfolk (clunky)
BW Eldrazi (inconsistent)
Soul Sisters (boring)
G Stompy (boring)

8Whack Goblins (ehhhh)
Eldrazi Tron (slow)
