My opponent has an Urza's Factory in play. He's created 2 Assembly-Workers with it. I play Runed Halo, naming Assembly-Worker. Can his tokens damage me?
Question 2:
My opponent has six Forests, and Island, and a Dryad Arbor in play. He plays Distant Melody, and claims he can name Forest, drawing 7 cards. Can he?
Question 3:
I'm playing Threshold in 1.5. I play Engineered Plague, naming GoblinS. My opponent claims his "Goblin" creatures don't get -1/-1, since I said the plural form of Goblin.
So is Stomping Ground... 2 life versus information is fair. This is powerful in aggro because it gives the ability to play what is basically a Taiga, and it's powerful in control because they can play it early as a Coastal Tower when the mana is unnecessary, or show some blanks late when mana needs to be untapped.
So I took the burn deck that has been performing pretty well and changed it up to have better game against Glen Elendra Archmages and Mind's Desires. Figure of Destiny is very good against Faeries, especially now that they've cut threads, and they have difficulty getting a Shackles up to 4 quickly. Sower is horrible against your threats, as you can just get them back with any of your 11 burn spells, 8 of them at instant speed. Gouger is good for the same reasons against Faeries, and he has the benefit of dodging Snare and usually Sprite, too. Sulfuric Vortex and your burn suite mean that your Loam matchup is still good. Pyrostatic Pillar gives you game 1 outs against Desires, shuts down Loam and Crime Engines and can also just give you free shocks once you've gained board or life advantage. While the deck is weaker against Zoo, it still has game there. Sulfuric Vortex is still insane. The biggest problem matchup is Affinity, who can just gain huge board advantage and crush you. The only hope there is to catch them with a slow hand or a bad all in game 1 and get some timely Smashes to Smithereens game 2.
All that said, I still think my sideboard isn't the best, the deck still can't beat a COP Red, and Umezawa's Jitte game one or even game two when you don't have the Smash is still a beeyotch.
I've been thinking of adding Jittes main or side, but I don't know if I'd consistently have a guy to make it as good as other decks can. I tried Chrome Mox, but it's pretty bad here because I can't produce true card advantage and it's basically a mulligan. I also tried some stuff from Sullivan's list, but his list couldn't beat Desire and aside from the brokenly fast disruption draws, it was weak. For example, drawing moxes or blastminers or moons in the midgame when your opponent is stable with their mana or when you were behind on board.
Nacatl Hunt-Pride. Drafting Naya is sooo goood with this guy. In SCC (the pre-release drafts) it was easy to pick these guys up between picks 1 and 4. In SSC, he's a really solid pick-up in pack 3 after getting some Drumhunters/Firestokers.
Went 7-1 in drafts on the weekend, winning twice with Naya and 1-1'ing with Esper (apparently 3 Man-o-War isn't enough).
Basic landcycling is INSANE. But we already knew that.
This guy's horrible in ramp. And ramp doesn't play Birds...
Solid in Mono Red or Blightning though; going 1 drop, then 1 drop 1 drop seems solid. He grows off Gouger, Ram-Gang, Blossom Tokens, Demigods, and Vexing Shushers.
This.
In the end this incarnation of RDW is more about board presence than burn. That being said, Hellspark Elemental and Hell's Thunder don't contribute to board presence. They also don't help against the deck's worst match ups which are WW/x Kithkin and WR Vengeant Lark. Those decks can easily chump Hell's Thunder or shrug off the damage from Hellspark Elemental.
Sure you can burn them in the face at the end game to finish the game, assuming your creatures got in for enough damage. However when they are at 3 life and you are stuck with a Hellspark Elemental in hand, you are probably going to be wishing for an Incinerate or permanent threat, like Gouger or Ram-Gang.
The deck will have to adapt in order to use more powerful cards and succeed in this metagame. It's going to move from board presence sligh to an aggressive racing strategy.
People can't just shrug off damage if you're playing 16 burn spells, Demigods, Hellsparks, and Figures. You're going to kill them.
This deck loses to burrenton forge-tender no matter HOW you build it, so why not become insane against every non-forge-tender deck in the format by playing a faster aggressive deck?
I could honestly care less if you believe me or not... Suffice to say, 15 dollars for a limited event is way too much on a weekly basis... not to mention that it is next to impossible for me to get to the comic book shop on any day other than a friday (for FNM) or a saturday (for Legacy). Not to mention, the last time that there was a bomb card for Legacy that could be obtained through limited, I wasn't playing the game at that point in time.
Also, I would like to point out that DCI rating isn't the end all be all determining factor in whether a person is a good player or not. All it really measures is how many matches that person has won or lost, which can be affected by alot of things, least of which is necessarily the persons play skill.
If you couldn't afford any limited events, you wouldn't have a worse than 1600...
HAHAHAHAHHA
DCI Rating is not playskill? Why do YOU use it to describe how competitive your metagame is? How is it that someone could win 90% of their matches and get an 1800+ rating and NOT be good? You're a moron. Someone who wins more is better. Someone with a better rating wins more. See the connection?
Antagonize and insult others and you get punished. See the connection?
Had this in a math contest, and couldn't figure it out:
Two skaters skate at their top speed from opposite ends of a block. Each skates at their top speed towards the other's starting point. After the point where they meet, Skater A takes 1 more minute to get to Skater B's starting point, and Skater B takes 2 more minutes to get to Skater A's starting point. How long did the faster skater take to get to the other skater's point of origin?
I will admit that suiblack has a good game against thresh decks.
However, don't distort the truth. You've beaten me 2 out of probably 8 matches. You've beaten Colton 1 out of probably 8 matches. You've never won against Drew.
I'm rated at 1718 Constructed (and I have a similar rating update problem at my store; just split back to back FNM's) and I SUCK at Magic. I'll admit that I'm really bad, but if I'm bad and at 1718, I can only imagine how horrible you have to be to drop below 1500...
But hey! You're in the top 2200 constructed players in Texas! You MUST be a master!
I never play sanctioned Legacy; it's not worth owning the cards for me - I just playtest with legacy masters and have a pretty good grasp of the format.
Warning for your Antagonistic, Flamebaiting Behavior
Am I the only one who thinks that the new Spark Elemental is actually pretty bad in the current format? B/W tokens, Kithkin, and Boat Brew could care less about spark elemental. They all play first-strike men or simply just don't care about 3 damage, especially damage that can be mitigated later in the game by amassing tons of dudes whereas a straight up burn spell would be better. Stigma at least stops them from gaining life anymore when it connects. I just see this guy sitting in people's hands because your opponent played a Knight of Meadowgrain on turn 2.
Yeah - who attacks with Knight of Meadowgrain?
He gets in for 6. SIX. On one card. You're playing 4 of this guy. Don't care about the 6 damage? I mean, post rotation, you should playing a burn deck with Figures, Ramgangs, and Demigods.
Won't work for me... thanks

Land - Mountain Forest
When Northern Woodlands comes into play, you may reveal a red or green card from your hand. If you don't, Northern Woodlands comes into play tapped.
4 Great Furnace
3 Ancient Den
3 Vault of Whispers
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Figure of Destiny
4 Keldon Marauders
4 Ashenmoor Gouger
4 Incinerate
4 Magma Jet
4 Sulfuric Vortex
3 Rift Bolt
3 Pyrostatic Pillar
