posted a message on Grixis Death's Shadow
I feel you. For years I have been playing BGx, but more often than not I decide to play one version of Shadow instead of traditional BG midrange. The 2 biggest differences for me are the following: Grixis Shadow plays 17 lands, a typical Jund deck 24/25, which means your topdecks are simply way better. 2nd reason for me is that Shadow can have it's nutdraw where your opponent isn't able to do anything because you have 1 mana discard, 1 mana threat, 1 mana removal and 1 mana counter. Shadow decks can kill from nowhere because of Battlerage, which gives the deck an "unfair" aspect where your opponent often doesn't even know whether he can make an attack. For me Shadow decks are the evolution of Blak Green Midrange decks in modern.
Now to answer some of your questions:

Just Jund? I don't like it, Stubborn Denial is a messed up magic card.

Why Grixis? 3 Reasons for me: Way better manabase than 4c Shadow, better grindy options thanks to Snapcaster Mage and K-Command and the ability to go the control route postboard against decks like Humans or Spirits. Traverse Shadow is best in an unfair meta full of combodecks though because the deck finds it's threats easier than Grixis does and plays the full 8 discard spells.

Not everybody plays Looting (max 2). I personally don't like it a lot because it means card disadvantage. If you decide playing Leyline in your board I would definitely go for Looting though. You need to get a feeling for the card, some love it in GDS others dont't like it. Bauble is excellent though and really helps in casting turn 2 Angler (has many other synergies as well, eg with Fetches, Thought Scour or Discard spells).

Sideboard(GDS)nowaday usually contains 1-2 Lavamancer, 2 K-Commands, 2 Liliana the Last Hope, 3 Counterspells, 2 Anger of the Gods, Leylines or Surgical and some more spot removal or Explosives. Some people are trying out Jace in the board against fair decks.

Since Frank Karsten has posted his article about the manabase I am thinking much more about my land-configuration than before. This is what I am currently working on (stock Reid Duke list):

My biggest problem with The Rock has always been the manland. I hate playing Hissing Quagmire, and after watching Reid playing the deck I decided to cut it as well. But I believe playing 23 lands in The Rock might be too greedy and because I play 2 Trackers I don't think going up one land compared to Reid's landbase will hurt the deck. I also don't like playing 4 Treetop Villages so I decided to add 1 Ghost Quarter in order to have at least one disruptive land in the deck, while still having 18 black and 18 green sources in order to cast my spells on curve.

This league showed a lot of Jund's current weaknesses. He was simply too often dependent on his topdeck, but he also had some unlucky draws, especially R1 and 2.

Guys, there is a new Jund video available by Reid Duke in which he lowered his curve and tried some new things. It is not listed on Youtube (don't ask me why) but here is the link:

What I learned over the last few weeks:

    - 24 vs 25 lands will probably end up in personal preference and individual lists: I see an average of 24.5 lands in Jund decks currently and it mainly depends on how low your manacurve is.

    - I don't like the Basic Mountain. At all. It is a horrible card in the opener, a bad basic land against Blood Moon decks and matters only against decks which play a playset of Field of Ruin.

    - Red is for a reason our tertiary color. It is the color your opponents will try to cut you off with FoR and Spreading Seas most often and will also cost you the most when fetching it (without Basic Mountain), therefore I like the approach I currently see by some pros (including Jadine Klomparens): Cut 1 Kolaghan's Command, probably also make an even 3/3 split of Bolt/Push. I don't like to shave Terminate though, as I believe it is a too important card against Eldrazi decks and other high cmc creature-based matchups like Hollow One, DS, etc. I want my Jund deck to be BG with the added benefit of the best red spells available (that's why I also dislike double red spells like Anger of the Gods, they are very often extremely hard to cast). I also believe Dreadbore is not good enough.

    - 3 Oozes is where I currently want to be. Ooze is a fantastic card in the mirror, against aggro decks and against all gy-based decks. Going down on 2 Oozes also means cutting a threat when needing a clock, something I do not like to do.

    - 12 one cmc spells is probably the way to go: Playing Jund without being able to cast a spell on the first turn of the game is a big disadvantage against basically all strategies in current modern. I want a discard on turn 1 in order to protect Goyf/Bob on turn 2 against some decks, I want to be able to kill a creature on turn 1 in order to apply pressure with my own creatures against other decks. I also prefer the 4/2 split of IoK/Thoughtseize, not yet entirely sold on the Bolt/Push split but I am currently trying to play 3/3.

    - BBE is a busted card of Magic. Up until the unban, Jund was a solid deck until turn 3, but other decks started to do unfair things in the midgame and Jund couldn't cope with it. BBE is amazing in mid- and lategame and makes the deck a tier 1 strategy again. The card is so strong, that trying to build the deck around her (like we tried at the beginning, and rightly so) is not worth it, as she simply performs without much help. That's why we also see her in so many decks where she is just "good", not excellent, for example RG Eldrazi or Ponza.

I am still unsure about Liliana, the Last Hope in the mainboard and the split between manlands, but there might not be the one way to do it so it is probably a meta decision whether to play The Last Hope in the mainboard or not. I like Treetop Village because of the low activation cost, the Trample ability and the solid body, but it's mana ability is quite a disadvantage in some situations.

About playable creatures, just read the wonderful primer that Flying Delver wrote. If the creature isn't listed there, you can assume she isn't good enough.

I also have that feeling. I would like to try out something similar to Reid's/Logan's list but no Push and no Terminate makes me feel very uncomfortable playing in the mirror. There are so many questions currently and I feel it might take some weeks to get certain answers:
    - What is the correct configuration of manlands?
    - How much discard overall, and how many Thoughtseizes? We are losing more life now than before the unbans due to us being a tad slower/higher cmc with Bob in the buildup and Thoughtseize can really hurt against the now rejuvenated Burn decks.
    - How should our removal package look like? Some pros play no Push and Terminate, others cut Decay entirely from the deck.

Questions over questions and we do not get clear answers. Reid and Logan performed poorly while Steve did well at MOCS, but then again, this tournament is not an inidicator for how the deck will look like in the future due to being a very small tournament with metachoices.

I might go back to Reids first try from his article and go on from there because I feel that list was solid and it proved to be very strong in Jeff Hoogland's stream (although I am not a big fan of him I have to admit that he played the deck pretty well).

Btw, someone noticed the FB-group and their opinions, but I would not listen too much to them because this thread here is miles ahead in terms of skill-level and experience.
