ArbitersHeir posted a message on Revisiting Rakdos, Lord of RiotsI run a pretty mean Rakdos deck while it lacks some of the more expensive eldrazi. Its mean in simply the approach which is smashing face. One card I added in a filler and has gone to a gem in this deck is madcap skills. Its won more games than any other card I have. A friend of mine said unless your ready for it Rakdos becomes a nightmare. Its certainly not the best but I assure you it does work.Posted in: Multiplayer

ArbitersHeir posted a message on One Ring to Rule Them All - The Fellowship of the RingI think Archons make for the best Narzgul. Sauron even though different I could see as Nicol Bolas due to power level and scheming both are master schemers of Domination.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

ArbitersHeir posted a message on What's the Point?/In It Just to Get A WinThere is a quote in Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight. In reference to the joker he says some men just want to see the world burn. That same saying applies to uber competetive types you seek to understand. They could care less who likes them or not. They simply want the whole table to be smashed as early as possible. The reasoning is simple they simply enjoy winning and doing it so quickly they get that shock factor. Now in my opinion they simply enjoy pissing other people off. I also believe that it may or may not be linked to that competition edge they have. I have played against many of these types. I have nothing against them anymore. I used to hate playing them even avoid it. Then I just realized if I want to play at LGS locally I need answers. So I streamlined my blue and white control deck to handle most threats. While its not topshelf it certainly can hold it owns against these types. These players aren't going to change its simply against there nature. They want the shock and awe. You can avoid them or simply beat them at there own game. As a long time EDH player I understand your questions. Though lately I've seen less of these decks and more a push to return to casual decks. So I hope it helps you see why they play that style. Good luck!Posted in: Commander (EDH)

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Game Theory: CounterspellsMost of the above said point's are great. A few other point's I may add if I may. As someone who loves counter spells but not packing a deck full of them. A couple alternate ways to beat counterspells are these. Spells similar to Curse of Exhaustion. There are cheaper casting cost versions but limiting a counterspell player to one spell hurts trust me. It makes them choose between countering or that crucial card that can draw them cards. Another option is Silence..it can be countered but if played right it can slow down the counterspells. Thirdly cards like thoughtsieze can be used to rip the counterspells from hand. Like I said those are some options I don't like seeing when I'm slinging counterspells. Oh and btw Mill can hurt if your putting those spells in the graveyard. Its tough to play against a heavy counterspell deck. Always know what and when your gonna play. If you can cause them to burn a counter on a meaningless card then go for it.Posted in: Multiplayer

ArbitersHeir posted a message on what was your first deck?My first deck I hand built was an old Mono White Lock Up deck running thing's like Master Decoy, Pacifism, Arrest, and used some Sierra Angels to finish the job. It was a good deck it taught me to adapt and play. Shortly after I discovered blue and its aspect of control. Good memory's.Posted in: Magic General

ArbitersHeir posted a message on How competitive can Mogis be built?I had a friend who built his first mogis attempt as a damage double deck. It was decent but never really got the job done. Then he tried with MLD. It wasn't bad and could be a very punishing deck but as said above Mogis held him back in so many games he ended up switching to a different commander.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Returning from 20 year hiatus.. Where do I start?!As said above Urzas block is good bet for future value. The modern master's collection's are a safe bet. Some cards to keep an eye on are the commander staples for the fact that commander is booming in popularity thus increasing some cards that might otherwise devalue. Good luck and I wish you the best getting your foot back in the door.Posted in: Introduce Yourself

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Amonkhet General DiscussionThat army of planeswalkers theory is quite feasible. Especially given that bolas loves power and what's more powerful than an army of planeswalkers. For that matter even a battalion would suffice for most villains but not bolas. If this is true bolas genius will show.Posted in: Magic Storyline

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Mono-Green Ramp Is Not Quite WorkingChoice is choice gentlemen. I've seen more mono green ramp decks run both those cards with sucess. Its simply choice. Everyone plays differently. Its all about how you play mono green. The best mono green ramp I seen was cultivate to fetch lands and throwing a gauntlet of power down. Some of the best green commander decks run those two cards with great success.Posted in: Multiplayer

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Mono-Green Ramp Is Not Quite WorkingI think the best ramp route is Cultivate and kodomas reach. Or mana dork it up with llanowar elf and priest of titania. For some alternate and excellent creatures try bellowing tanglewurm he is just nasty. You want to focus on ramp and stomping face with speed. Even if you run Howl of the Nightpack for some wolf tokens and then overrun not to many decks can deal with it. Good luck as a new player and one day try out commander its great. Card knowledge and studying is your best friend in this game.Posted in: Multiplayer

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Planeswalkers of AmonkhetI'm feeling the native planeswalker will be a sphinx and as a player I love sphinxs. I don't know if he will resist or serve bolas. I also think bolas needs to kill at least one gatewatch member. You don't just attack a plane where bolas is a god and beat his face. Trust me the gatewatch is no tetsuo umezawa. I hope karn never joins the gatewatch but him and bolas throwing down would be epic. Karn is exceptional remember.Posted in: Speculation

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Have you ever downplayed a threat before?I try downplaying Sheoldred but even new players will see the threat she poses. She lasts maybe a turn if she hits the battlefield at all. On another note while not game winning or deadly my Grand Arbiter gets hated with no downplaying. They call him the tax man and hate paying taxes. I just don't understand why? Maybe the stifling control he brings when you don't pay your taxes lol.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Can somebody explain group hug to me?Typically from my experience within multiplayer is most experienced players will not let a group hug deck live for too long. Especially if its having adverse effects on them. Or giving an opponent advantage. I would agree with SlyDev1l in the sense you take out the guy who is giving way to many gifts. I know sneaky when I see it. Group hug decks can be sneaky gentlemen.Posted in: Commander (EDH)

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Destroying Planeswalkers before they are able to activate abilityToo add to that you could respond to the activation as I said before as long as its instant speed.Posted in: Magic Rulings

ArbitersHeir posted a message on Destroying Planeswalkers before they are able to activate abilityIf its an instant speed removal...black would probably have a higher degree of planeswalker removal spells. Then there should be no reason you can't wipe it off the board. Unless your opponent has some way of protecting it which is hard unless its counterspells.Posted in: Magic Rulings
