Sep 29, 2011FuneralofGod posted a message on Neo Cawblade MillI originally ran Alchemy but every time I casted it I was always hoping for a counter, so instead I just replaced them with more counters. Dissipation Field is more useful here because it continually slows down opposing creatures, whereas DOJ only clears the field once. Also I have a couple DOJ in here already..Posted in: FuneralofGod Blog

Sep 28, 2011FuneralofGod posted a message on "Junk" Birthing PodThe only reason I don't use the O-Ring is because of the manabase. I like Beast Within better anyway..as the 3/3 is rarely a problem. And the fact that it can hit lands is very important as well, since this deck has some amazing LD potential with the addition of Unburial RitesPosted in: FuneralofGod Blog
The Revoker may be coming out for another Spellskite, but currently I always find something useful for the Revoker. I only side it out against control deck with no swords and no planeswalkers. I take the LD/mana denial route often with this build, and I'll even drop the Revoker naming BOP if they play one -
Sep 21, 2011FuneralofGod posted a message on Mill - Block ConstructedI guess the main reason I want the bounce is because its reusable, and the fact that you aren't required to have the spell in your hand + mana open when they cast the creature. Both Grasp of Phantoms and Silent Departure have flashback, and I can even return them with Runic Repetition later. Although I'll probably use Visions of Beyond instead of Think Twice..yeah definitely.Posted in: FuneralofGod Blog

The thing with the Emissary is if you miss a land drop, your opponent will do their best to keep your Emissary from hitting the graveyard, effectively denying you mana. It's happened to me many times, so I prefer to run a split between Viridian Emissary and Sylvan Ranger.
Beast Within isn't always maindeck material. It's a playstyle choice. You have 6 removal spells maindeck already, which is plenty. However they're all situational..meaning none of them can hit eveything. My recommendation would be to promote 2x Beast Within from your sideboard to the maindeck, and demote 2x Dismember to the board (leaving 1x BW sb and 2x Dism md). The main reason I like BW main is for the Sword of Feast and Famine. It's nice that it can hit anything, though..
I think she definitely has something to offer the deck, but I doubt there's any room. Rock Pod is generally only 3 things: creatures, pods, removals. Although a lot of builds run 2x Mimic Vat and in theory she could replace those..but I don't think it's worth it.
Did we rule out Chimeric Mass as a viable option? maybe it just requires you do dump too much mana into upon casting.. IDK maybe I'll test it some more
First off I think you have too many 4-drops. Your curve should be high on 2s and 3s, and taper down from there (especially if you're only going to use BOPs as mana-makers). I would take out 1 Solemn Simulacrum and replace it with one Spellskite. Other than that your list looks pretty solid.
Let me know if the Masticore works out for you. You seem to have a pretty decent amount of removal without him, but I've also considered testing him myself (I only run 4x Beast Within) so I'm curious how he fares..
You might also want to bump yourself up to 23 lands, since you're only playing BOPs for mana-makers, and the Emissary isn't always guaranteed to fetch a land.
Thank you! it looks awesome! I love the geddon sun shining through the death cloud..
Thanks again Xeno.. appreciate it.
Viridian Emissary works wonders on Mimic Vat actually. If you have one imprinted, you can make a blocker during your opponents turn. Since the token will die to combat, you get to search for another land.
Synergy with (literally) one other card in your deck doesn't really make it viable. You're literally running only one of each of these two different cards.. What are the chances that Glissa will be on the table and an opponent's creature will die while Peace Strider just happens to be in your graveyard? Very unlikely.. This combo works better with creatures that are at a lower CMC than Glissa, and are more likely to be in your graveyard in the first place, like Spellskite or Perilous Myr for example.
And the 1 extra life point is not nearly as important as the 1 extra toughness. I'm not saying the Strider isn't at least sideboard worthy..it's especially nice against Mirran Crusader (although again Perilous Myr does this better too), but the Strider dies to Lightning Bolt, it trades with a Beast token you gave them, it loses in combat to Porcelain Legionnaire, it can't kill a Wall of Omens or a Spellskite in combat, it can't trade with a Raging Ravine, and it dies to an opposing Perilous Myr (in case you're keeping score, thats PM:3 & PS:0)
I've never heard of a successful Jund pod deck, OR a successful pod deck that wasn't a toolbox. Please enlighten us with examples (not from your local meta).
The only pod colors that are making any kind of a name for themselves are Bant, RUG, BUG, and BG. Not very many in BG or BUG, but I know people have top 8'd with them here and there.. I've never heard of a successful Naya or Jund pod deck..because if you're playing red, you should be playing twin. No reason not too. The RUG twin/pod is obviously the most effective of all the different color combinations. The only reason I'm not playing it myself is because I don't own any Lotus Cobras, and I don't feel like buying any.
If you're playing blue pod then you need white for Sun Titan or red for Splinter Twin. If you're playing BG/x and you drop your Massacre Wurm at the right time, you shouldn't need to copy it in order to win that game. And if you did need to for some reason, you still have Phyrexian Metamorph..and you didn't need to completely screw up your manabase to run him.
The only solid 3-drop in all of pod is really just Blade Splicer. It's the best 3cc creature that will leave a lasting effect on the game if they shoot it or you pod it away (overlooking circumstances where you need an answer like Sylvok Replica or something). I have a feeling that BGWU pod will be looking pretty good in the next couple of months here..with Skaab Ruinator carrying at 3 CMC.
Also, as far as your Phyrexian Rager or Sea Gate Oracle not getting bombed.. If your opponent knows you're playing pod and they're smart they will shoot it, in order to keep you from podding up the chain. Especially if the removal they're holding is circumstantial like Go for the Throat, Doom Blade, or Lightning Bolt. They won't want you to grab something that'll be out of their range (again, if they're smart that is)
The things I don't like about Sangromancer are:
1. She has no ETB/LTB abilities
2. When she dies to a Lightning Bolt, she will have died in vain per No. 1
3. In order to utilize her abilities (which only gain you life anyway) you need to keep her on the battlefield while you shoot down creatures, and thats not what pods about.
In pod (or at least at the 4cc slot), we want to pod the creature in, hopefully generate some CA, maybe swing once next turn, then pod it away. Even if the stars align perfectly and you are able to shoot down one of their creatures while Sangromancer is on the board, you will have gained 3 life. That's it. It just doesn't seem worth it to me when we have the following 4cc options to consider in B/G pod:
Skinrender
Entomber Exarch
Phyrexian Obliterator (even after my disagreement in the other thread, I would still play him over Sangromancer)
Obstinate Baloth
Thrun, the Last Troll
Solemn Simulacrum
Peace Strider (yup, I would even play this over Sangromancer)
Phyrexian Metamorph
We have WAY too much stuff in that slot as it is.. There's just no room for her. Sorry.. (although the art is awesome, looks like she's giving the middle finger)
Something like this might work:
4 Ornithopter
4 Memnite
4 Frogmite
4 Erayo, Soratami Ascendant
3 Ethersworn Cannonist
4 Mox Opal
4 Springleaf Drum
3 Cranial Plating
Sorceries (12):
4 Ponder
4 Preordain
4 Gitaxian Probe
4 Noxious Revival
Lands (14):
4 Seachrome Coast
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Darksteel Citadel
2 Islands
Obstinate Baloth isn't as relevant here because you cannot sacrifice Beast tokens made my Garruk. After some testing I removed O. Baloth from my build completely cause he just gets in the way.
IMHO Explore is only viable if you're running 24+ lands.

Vendillion Clique[/card] isn't exactly a win condition on its own, and you don't have nearly enough countermagic to protect her AND foil your opponents plans.
I feel as though you need something like Thoughts of Ruin after you drop your Clique at their EOT in order to be sure she's survives long enough to kill them. Also, what if I Memoricide you naming Vendillion Clique?
I like the idea of RUG control, but I'd build it something like this:
4 Wall of Roots
4 Vendillion Clique
3 Spellstutter Sprite
3 Plaxmanta
Sorceries:
4 Ponder
4 Firespout
3 Thoughts of Ruin
4 Cryptic Command
4 Remand
3 Mana Leak
Lands:
4 Breeding Pool
4 Steam Vents
3 Misty Rainforest
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Tectonic Edge
6 Island
1 Forest
1 Mountain
I've always loved the Perilous Research + Hatching Plans combo. I used to use them in a deck with Leyline of Singularity and Hunted Phantasm. (That way could always drop 2x Hatching Plans to draw 6 cards)
I guess my overall goal is Bant aggro. I use the Bant Charm more as removal than as a counter, but if I have the mana open and they shoot something with an instant, its nice to have the option to counter. Wall of Omens is probably the main card that doesn't belong there..but I like the defense against aggro and the cantrip. I'm definitely open to recommendations though..I was just trying to do something different than the usual 300$ landbase + 4x Knight of the Reliquary.
I've won about a third of my games with this build, and it's usually due to an unblockable exalted Cold-Eyed Selkie with doublestrike. I sometimes feel as though I have too many creatures to truly utilize the exalted mechanic. I'm often torn between attacking with everything, and attacking with just one for the exalted benefit. I also tried a build with less creatures and 4x Mana Leak and 4x Remand. But that yielded even less wins.
