Sep 29, 2011FuneralofGod posted a message on Neo Cawblade MillI originally ran Alchemy but every time I casted it I was always hoping for a counter, so instead I just replaced them with more counters. Dissipation Field is more useful here because it continually slows down opposing creatures, whereas DOJ only clears the field once. Also I have a couple DOJ in here already..Posted in: FuneralofGod Blog

Sep 28, 2011FuneralofGod posted a message on "Junk" Birthing PodThe only reason I don't use the O-Ring is because of the manabase. I like Beast Within better anyway..as the 3/3 is rarely a problem. And the fact that it can hit lands is very important as well, since this deck has some amazing LD potential with the addition of Unburial RitesPosted in: FuneralofGod Blog
The Revoker may be coming out for another Spellskite, but currently I always find something useful for the Revoker. I only side it out against control deck with no swords and no planeswalkers. I take the LD/mana denial route often with this build, and I'll even drop the Revoker naming BOP if they play one -
Sep 21, 2011FuneralofGod posted a message on Mill - Block ConstructedI guess the main reason I want the bounce is because its reusable, and the fact that you aren't required to have the spell in your hand + mana open when they cast the creature. Both Grasp of Phantoms and Silent Departure have flashback, and I can even return them with Runic Repetition later. Although I'll probably use Visions of Beyond instead of Think Twice..yeah definitely.Posted in: FuneralofGod Blog

This is the Rock Pod thread, right? You're arguing a point with off-topic evidence just for the sake of arguing. No one said Baloth belongs in all pod builds. I said it's better in rock than Peace Strider (with the exceptions I mentioned before). If this was a 3-color pod thread, I would have conceded to the idea that 4 is much easier to attain than 2GG, but in B/G pod there simply isn't much difference.
Wait so you don't run any Acidic Slime, Thrun, or Baloths? and instead you're running Phyrexian Obliterator? How many/which mana dorks do you use? You may not choose to fetch forests often, but your actual landbase should still be close to 50% green, (once again) to support your turn 1 birds and your frequest pod activations..meaning you should still be drawing into two green producing lands by turn 6 or so. Unless you're literally splashing green just for pods and dorks, which sounds like a pretty terrible idea.
Careful guys, they don't like people discussing rotation.
As far as Peace Strider is concerned, I'd say it's a sideboard card at best. Mirran Crusader and Go for the Throat are literally the only cards that you'd want Strider over Obstinate Baloth against. We may not have B/G duals, but do you really have a hard time getting GG? Although we have a lot of black mana symbols in the deck, your manabase should still be at least 50% green in order to support your turn 1 mana-makers and your birthing pods. If you're having frequent problems with Mirran Crusaders, or everyone in your meta runs 4x Go for the Throats, by all means replace Baloth with Strider..But I would at least keep 1x Baloth in the sideboard just for red.
4 Sangrophage
4 Stromglad Crusader
4 Stillmoon Cavalier
3 Undead Warchief
3 Death Baron
1 Lord of the Undead
Enchantments (3):
3 Bad Moon
Instants (8):
4 Nameless Inversion
4 Smother
4 Duress
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
Lands (22):
4 Verdant Catacombs
2 Marsh Flats
2 Mutavault
2 Tectonic Edge
12 Swamp
4 Surgical Extraction
3 Memoricide
3 Geth's Verdict
3 Withered Wretch
2 Lord of the Undead
The key here is to use zombie creatures with protection. If we had a low cc zombie with pro red in modern I would use it, but unfortunately these are the only options. Pro white helps them swing unblocked against Zoo and Bant, and also prevents Path to Exile, Journey to Nowhere, etc..while pro black keeps away Terminate and Smother. Having a deck full of lords that don't do much other than buff each other won't get us very far, unless we have good ways of getting that damage through. In addition, both the Cavalier and the Crusader can also be pumped or tossed into the air.
I plan on replacing Sangrophage with Diregraf Ghoul, once it's released. That should help round out the mana curve, loosening my bottleneck at CMC 2. I feel as if Withered Wretch almost deserves some mainboard slots just because she's so good agaisnt Tarmogoyf. I chose Badmoon over a third because it's cheaper, it survives removal, and it buffs a lord when he's by himself. Firespout is a very powerful and popular card right now, and I want to be able to blow my hand as quickly as possible without worrying about that kind of removal.
The only card I didn't include that I really wanted to is Phylactery Lich. That card has amazing potential, but there simply aren't enough artifacts relevant to this deck's goals. The only artifacts I can think that might belong here are Tidehollow Sculler or Executioner's Capsule, but neither of those will be staying in play for very long anyway. I saw someone using Infiltration Lens, which I thought was interesting. I dunno how viable that actually is in this environment, but I like the idea. It has nice synergy with Death Baron.
4 Hunted Horror
4 Hunted Phantasm
3 Dark Confidant
2 Spellskite
2 Eater of Days

4 Torpor Orb
3 Lightning Greaves

4 Mana Leak
4 Remand
3 Muddle the Mixture
1 Disrupting Shoal
4 Inquisition of Kozilek

4 Swamp
4 Island
4 Damnation
4 Echoing Truth
3 Dispel
3 Negate
1 Spellskite
I used to play a deck like this in standard with Leyline of Singlarity. Admittedly I worked in the Dark Confidants per your advise Smokestack..but I also used some other tech that people are overlooking. Lightning Greaves can be really good here. It can protect your fatties once they stick, or if you can't find the Orb you can drop an Eater on the Greaves and just swing for the win.
Wasn't there already a thread about this? Myr Superion seems to get the same responses as Perilous Myr. Some people think it's great but most don't like it in pod. I wouldn't play it in Podcaster unless you have a decent amount of 1cc creatures to pod into it. But overall the problem with Myr Superion is that you generally wanna keep podding up the chain far beyond CMC 2. He's like a big Tarmogoyf that's a little more difficult to get on the table.. I'm not completely against running him, since he dodges Dismember and Go for the Throat..but honestly its' a sideboard card at best.
I originally started playing Modern piloting a Bant Pod that looked like this:
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Noble Hierarch
3 Qasali Pridemage
1 Meddling Mage
1 Wall of Omens
3 Kitchen Finks
1 Vendillion Clique
1 Cold-Eyed Selkie
2 Phyrexian Metamorph
1 Obstiante Baloth
1 Rafiq of the Many
1 Baneslayer Angel
1 Reveilark
1 Wurmcoil Engine
Artifacts:
4 Birthing Pod
Instants:
4 Bant Charm
2 Psionic Blast
Sorceries:
3 Ponder
Lands:
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Seachrome Coast
2 Razorverge Thicket
1 Breeding Pool
1 Temple Garden
4 Forest
3 Plains
2 Island
Needless to say the deck was a bit slow in this format..
After a lot of testing against mostly Zoo variants with a few Post and a few Splinter Twin combo decks..I realized that the Pod concept was hurting just too much. I had to give it up and go for a more aggressive and straightforward approach.
This is the list I've settled on as of this afternoon, but it still feels too flimsy.
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Noble Hierarch
4 Wall of Omens
4 Qasali Pridemage
4 Kitchen Finks
3 Cold-Eyed Selkie
3 Rhox War Monk
3 Rafiq of the Many
2 Thrun, the Last Troll
4 Bant Charm
4 Path to Exile
Lands:
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Seachrome Coast
2 Razorverge Thicket
1 Temple Garden
1 Breeding Pool
4 Forest
4 Plains
1 Island
4 Day of Judgement
4 Plow Under
3 Green Sun's Zenith
1 Gaddock Teeg
1 Thrun, the Last Troll
1 Cloudthresher
1 Dauntless Escourt
I like keeping GSZ and the toolbox in the sideboard, that way my draws are more consistent (at least until I side them in). Day of Judgement comes in on almost every match-up.. I'm kind of thinking I should mainboard it.
So I can choose to regenerate Thrun AFTER my opponent assigns combat damage?
ahhh I got it. Thanks
by the way that looks HILARIOUS and AMAZING
Now with regards to regeneration:
Since combat damage no longer goes on the stack, if my opponent attacks with a 6/6 and I block with a 3/3 and a Thrun, the Last Troll, am I required to activate his regeneration before my opponent assigns the combat damage? If this is the case I must say I'm quite displeased with this change in the game mechanics.. This gives me opponent the opportunity to assign lethal damage to my 3/3 rather than to my Thrun, effectively wasting my regeneration.
Please don't hijack threads, even if you originally started the thread. If you're asking an entirely different question, you should ask it in a new thread so the title of the thread matches the question you're asking. -Carsten
This may be common knowledge but I haven't played in several years, and planeswalkers were just barely getting started when I last left this game.
I've also come to find out that creatures can no longer deal stack damage if sacrificed? And mana left in your pool at the end of phases doesn't cause manaburn?? Apparently a lot has changed since I left the game of Magic.
So I'm wondering if my request was also denied? I tried to give a pretty thorough description of what I wanted yet no one has mentioned picking mine up. I've seen several people request sigs after me and there's have been made already. I don't mind waiting, as long as I know its going to get done eventually. If you guys are too swamped or my request is too difficult please let me know.
As a reminder, I'll drop my original request in here:
Apostle just seems underpowered, since you can only use it once. Spellskite plus Blade Splicer sounds like a neat trick against red, especially since both of those cards should be maindeck anyways. If you're really worried you could put 2 or 3 Kor Firewalker in your sideboard also. This guy makes red cry..
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Kitchen Finks
Artifacts (3):
3 Phyrexian Totem
Instants (7):
3 Smother

4 Garruk Wildspeaker
Sorceries (14):
4 Death Cloud
4 Duress
3 Damnation
3 Despise
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Overgrown Tomb
3 Treetop Village
2 Twilight Mire
6 Swamp
5 Forest
4 Fulminator Mage
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Sudden Death
