It depends I found getting it with the first stoneforge if my hand isnt full of land fall duders seems to work the best. obviously it's situational but it really is something that will close the games quickly.
Correct, you wont lose anything and Armageddon is even more of a blow out.
To cthulhudude23, i wouldn't say any of the stax builds are bad, they are all fit for a spicific meta, mono red beat gobos, wich isnt a dominate deck anymore. Emidln had an amazing U/g/r stax build that abused intuition and life from the loam, Engineered Explosives and Academy ruins to beat thresh. Its just mono white stax has a solid game plan against all the match ups. its the best thing to take to a big tourney.
Anyone have any Testing against 43 land? i immagine that it largly comes down to who goes first, but i dont see it being an awful match for us. And is anyone taking this to GP Columbus? I took it to Chicago last year for the GP and it seemed like the X-1 bracket was all stax, and combo and gobos.
You have wastelands of your own and I'm not afraid of playing nonbasics for the same reasons others are playing Gaea's cradle, mutavaults, Urborg tomb of yawmoth, etc. And kjeldoran outpost can come back with crucible. My idea is to use it to maintain a lock with smoke stack.
You can maintain a lock with Elespeth even better. Shes a win con, fits the curve, no mana requirement after the inital cost, and god forbid she can make the game one sided real quick with her final effect. she might not recur with Crucible but I'll take her any day of the week. Shes a beast and the only reason i upped my total count of Oblivion Rings in my 75 when at a bigger tourney.
Played this for a 3-2-1 record tonight lost to grixis, and allies in the finals tonight and testing got ruined by valakut too. Anyone have an ideas to get there against the Valakut? my plan was board out path and wall bring in pithing needle and flash freeze and hope to land something early. the only other really troubling match was a vamps match lots of trading one for one, but the deck needs something eles for the bloodwitch. upping one Iona and another steel wind seems like a good plan, are there anything else were missing?
On a side note only ONE jund deck tonight and they lost to grixis after grixis.
Stone idol Trap is Amazing in the mirror, they swing with 3 dudes you drop it block the big one then swing for a bunch on the next turn. its almost a guarantee to win the race.
About Stax in general, the core of the deck really doesn't change, the color that you chose specializes you to a certain meta game, off the top of my head ive seen UGR stacks that abused life from the loam, Intuition and acadamy ruins, Mono Red that beat goblins and the mirror,RG, WU, WB, and Mono white. White stax got pushed to the fore front because it hits the broadest metagame with the least strictly bad matchups. But in the ever evolving Metagame splashing Green or Red may become nessicary it just comes down to TEST,TEST,TEST,TEST and share it with the community.
so who went to Grand Prix chicago i know i saaw at least 4 other white stax players and had to play against two, i ended up doing poorly because of a last min cut for runed halo insted of o-ring and it costed me both mirror match games
if you can afford them Moat makes Elspeth fantastic some recent deck list i saw ran 4 Moat, 4 humility and Elspeth together. i will see if i can find it.
So this thread has been quite dead for a while but with Grand Prix Chicago looming ahead does anyone have thoughts and ideas. this is going to be my first big legacy tourny and it is a toss up between mono white and G/U/R stax. then the real challenge come to building a sideboard to cover me. has ANYONE come up with anything to tweak this deck?
i would cut the brain strom and one thirst for 4x intuition i would cut the other thirst and play a Life From the Loam, make room for one acadamy ruins. and play propaganda over the bridge. i might play this today with those changes. uba mask in the bord should go to some grave hate and mabey switch pyroclasm with firespout
Not to necro a thread i was woundering if anyone has seen or thought of to make this deck better, watching the evolution of this deck has been fun and i have been woundering if anything if the newer sets have added anything or mabey givin anyone a spark of insperation.
OMG!!! Magic is doomed i have heard form a very reliable source that magic cards will now have to be endorsed with other company's products!!! We must stop our plains beings sponsered by big tobbaco, and insted of herble poultice deck wins, it will be named
CRAZY LARRY'S INSANE NRG EXTRAVAGANZA!!!! deck wins "NOW WITH 100% LESS HERBAL POULTICE".
