I’m planning on playing this deck at scg Columbus. It seems good with all the big mana and greedy manabases running around right now. My biggest issue is that e tron is overly popular in my area. The e tron matchup has been tough and I decided on putting a few bridges in the sideboard, even though I’ve never been a fan of the bridge versions of the deck. I think it should improve the matchup a good bit.
Here is my current list for reference.
Modern r/w prison
Before I say anything, I will mention that my deck is highly tuned to my local meta, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
This is my current list.
Grixis Delver Modern
My manabase is pretty usual, I don't think there is a need to talk about that.
The only odd thing in my creature package is that I have stuck to playing two young pz's. I've found them wonderful in many situations, as long as you don't run it straight into a push or tarfire.
My spell package has most of the usual suspects, besides the one murderous cut, which I have liked against bant Eldrazi and deaths shadow.
Any opinions or questions on my sideboard choices would be appreciated, I'm not 100% sure there.
Grixis shadow should have a separate thread, as I came to this thread trying to find a deck with a good shadow matchup, not another shadow deck. just saying.
First of all, this deck is very much inspired by the Jund obliterator deck, built by rogue deckbuilder sometime ago. Credit for inspiration goes there.
This deck is built around the card Phyrexian Obliterator. That was the starting point for this deck. It is one of my favorite cards in modern.
The backup win cons are the "project melira" combo, as seen in modern abzan company, using a combination of Kitchen Finks, Viscera Seer, and Melira, Sylvok Outcast to gain infinite life, using the scry triggers from the seer to bring murderous redcap to the top of your deck, then kill the next turn with infinite damage.
The deck can also just beat down, and there are multiple decks in the format that simply cannot beat the obliterator.
Here is the sideboard "Guide" of sorts.
Obstinate Baloth: Comes in against burn, jund, abzan, or most decks with lots of discard.
Crumble to dust: Make Tron players cry.
Vexing Shusher: Counterspell decks, pretty simple.
Pia and Kiran Nalaar (aka mom and pops thopter shop): Good against any of the decks that try to 1 for 1 you out of the game, such as grixis, abzan, jund, and other lingering souls decks.
Pulse of murasa: Comes in more than you would think. Good against burn, u/r/x control, and any of the midrange decks.
Reclamation Sage: Does what he does. Good against decks with important artifacts and enchantments, such as ad naus, thopter sword, affinity, and the new hardened snek decks running around.
Fulminator Mage: Decks with troublesome lands, Tron, Snek.Dek, and u/w/x control.
Fatal Push: Infect, Death's Shadow, Affinity.
Maelstrom Pulse: Lingering souls decks.
Spellskite: Possible mainboard card, good against infect, burn, and most control variants.
Slaughter games: Ad naus, Scapeshift, any other deck that relies on a certain card to win.
And that's all I've got. If you think anything should be added to this thread, let me know, and I would appreciate any and all suggestions for improving the deck. Thanks!
