Well just as i had my deck tuned to be competitive against caw blade this had to happen, though I'm not complaining XD. With the new banning of JTMS and SFM this is the direction I will be taking as of July 1st with val, twin, and mono red in mind:
This is ofc strongly trying to kill both valakut and splinter twin which i expect to stongly represent the meta, and there is enough kill and discard to keep aggro down for the most part game 1 and sweepers and the like can easily replace ur sacraments and memoricides games 2 and 3. Im not set in stone about this yet but imma give it a whirl.
Well I feel dumb for not getting the combo here but could someone explain it to me?, this looks like a good deck for my meta. and what exactly does Mortarpod in lists for?
Despise... I've found lackluster. Didn't perform well in Louisville and doesn't grab batterskull. Might move back to the 4 IoK/4 Duress. Mind Sludge has proven to be useful against control players... namely caw-go, but you're right and it may just be too slow overall...
Singleton inkmoth is an alternate win-con. Inkmoth + lashwrithe = a fairly short clock if it becomes a necessity. It's also a creature that can survive board wipe if necessary.
Liliana dropping might be good considering that I've bumped up to 2x Black Sun main deck and that was her primary responsibility with the tutor.
Hexmage has been circumstantial thus far and not needed in every matchup
Tried Nantuku. For a deck that likes to tap out, it's hard to reserve the mana to make him completely relevant.
Praetor's Grasp is too late for an opening hand Leyline..
Liliana is terrible right now in reguards to speed and her tutor effect. Mind Sculptor is everywhere these days and i promise you if you drop Lilly and tutor your getting fate sealed. I wish Lilly was good i really do but right now is not her time.
With some new pro-black artifacts coming out with New Phyrexia I started 2 tinker with the idea of making a mono black T2 deck with Phylactery Lich on the ranks. Here is what a came up with:
I also posted a B/R version at the B/R control topic, but I have to say I got a better feeling with this build since I can use more artifacts. Thoughts, ideas?
Hmm this got me thinking of a more aggro oriented deck something like this:
Sideboad was a bunch of crap bc i dont have all the cards i need yet for it i just ran some Preator's Grasp BSZ and Phyrexian Revokers and a few other random filler cards...
Round 1 vs Valakut
Win 2-1
Easy match up tech edge his valakut wrecked his hand with discard obliterator got there
Round 2 vs Naya with caw swords and stoneforge
Loss 0-2
Got mana screwed both games not much else to say dont know how the match would have been had i been on more then 2 lands....
Round 3 vs UBW Cawblade
Win 2-0
Tough games first game i won off an obliterator with a lash to his no removal lol second game i grasped his sword of war and peace put it and a lash of a nighthawk with revoker on the field naming jace and got there
Round 4 vs Esper tempo-ish deck with typical stoneforge package
Win 2-0
Tough attrition games but my removal > his 8 creatures grasp from the board was nice game two
Round 5 vs UW Cawblade
Loss 1-2
Game one im on the play i inquistion turn 1 and 2 and get both swords lol he rips stoneforge and gets batterskull i have no removal... i play SiB his turn is land go i draw gatekeeper and play it kicked he stoneforges in the batterskull and sacs the germ. His turn he plays jace and brainstorms. My turn i rip anoter gatekeeper and play it hitting the stoneforge. His turn tumble magnet brainstorm pass my turn nighthawk attacks 1 keeper gets tapped 2 at jace sending him to 1 pass his turn wraths the field brainstorm bounce batterskull my turn despise wiff he has batterskull and into the roil the rest of the game was him brainstorming with jace swinging batterskull bouncing and tumple magneting my stuff and he wins.... lovely
Game 2 on the play i inquistion seeing into the roil DoJ stoneforge lands i take stone forge. on my next turn i duress and inquisition taking his other 2 spells. turn 3 SiB play hex parasite. Tun 4 Obliterator turn 5 lashwrite it goes unanswered...
Game 3 is close i get dudes out like 2 gatekeeper hex parasite couple lashwrites but he is stabalized with jace tumble magnet spellskite batterskull and parasite is worthless bc of spellskite..... he end up winning after a while
Overall not a bad night for having no good SB and playwing 4 stoneforge decks...batterskull pretty much was a problem all night, despise sucked alot, hex parasite and vampire hexmage both felt useless all night bc spellskite is nuts. Obliterator was good for me when i was on the play with discard bad every other time
I really like Praetor's Grasp against caw because i can steal thier swords turn 3 and hit them with a scary tramply demon/horror wielding a sword on turn 5
If ur playing both Percy and Obliterator i dont think there is a need to play the 6cc fat anymore, idk just my opinion
Normally run MBC but also have the cards for Boros and after playing 5 weeks on MBC and growing more and more creature heavy and more and more dissatisfied I opted to take a break and play something else. Anyway there was someone else at the FNM who broke out MBC and this is roughly their list (they went 5-1, ending up 3rd on tie breakers out of 36 folks). Some of the numbers might be a bit off but I am right about the card types in the maindeck as I talked to the guy who designed it (he did not play it). The only thing I am unsure about is some of the sideboard numbers and total land. Did not see any fetches and cannot remember if there were any Gargoyle Castle
I think the Nyxathid this was a singleton, not sure why it was there.
Anyway its only loss was to Nissa. I know it beat turbo mill (was fun, he was playing next to me and resolved a kicked Sadistic Sacrament after an earlier Haunting Echoes), and Bant. Not how T1 decks he played other than Nissa but was good enough for an FNM that features multiple Nissa decks, Jund and other good T2 builds. The rationale for all the 2 ofs is of course the tutor effect of Lilianna.
Assuming no fetches in this build I would +8 fetchlands -8 swamps. Move the Echoes and the Sacraments to the sideboard (while I am not a fan of Sacraments they seem like the only answer to Oran's). For the Sacraments and Echoes I just might add 3 Grim Discovery. I like this card as further insurance against Blightning, it recurs that pesky Nighthawk they just spent their bolt trying to kill or gives you more Edict effects by getting back a Gatekeeper. And a 3/3 split with SiB can net you a chunk of cards.
-3 Infest/+3 Marsh Casualties. Infest just does not cut it as a sweeper but MC on turn 2 can kill that opening lynx/geopede start, nab Nissa's/Bant's/Lotus Ramp's early mana dorks, and Vamp Midrange Hexmages and Bloodghasts (yeah it will comeback but better it be in recurred t4 than swinging t4 with a played Nocturnus) Late game it can deal with Siege-Gang Commander tokens or Conqueror's Pledge tokens. All of these are one sided and are thus card advantage. Plus it keeps your turn 3 play open as well. Sure Infest deals with pro black White Knights but one Honor and they are out of range anyway.
-3 Scepters/-1 Nyxathid from the sideboard, this is where Sacraments and Echoes find their home. I am just not sold on Haunting Echoes game 1. Mind Sludge should get your there anyway. I have seen other builds with them and not sure why they are there, seem like overkill. I guess they can be useful against control forcing discards which cannot be countered or swerved.
Hey bud this is my list my buddy dan was runnin at fnm at Bells thanks for spreading the word abt the success it had! Ill post the exact list a little later tooo lazy atm to dig it out. But my my recolaction the matches were:
1 Dont remember 2-1
2 Nissa 0-2
3 UWR Fog 2-1 (lost to a swerve on a mind sludge game 2)
4 Bant with Baneslayers 2-0
5 Vampires 2-0
Why Beseech over Diabolic Tutor? The only reason I can see is you save 1 mana in playing it, but aside from that Diabolic is superior in every way.
Very very simple, turn three if im staring down aggro pressure with a beseech in hand i can grab an infest or earthquake to wipe turn 4 which is critical against most aggro decks in the format. With diabolic, well that's just one turn slower which is one turn closer to dead.
2 Tectonic Edge
