So I'm trying to build a series of "duel decks" that are mono-colored (1 for each color) that epitomize the strengths of each color while being balanced relative to eachother.
At present I have this Mono-Red Duel Deck and this Mono-Black Duel Deck. If anyone has any feedback that would be wonderful - do any of the cards seem too powerful, does either deck seem far better than the other, are there more flavorful/fun cards that could slot in for another card (while still being budget)? Keep in mind the goal for this project is for me to be able to play with people who don't really play mtg (or for 2 people who are new to play).
U-Tron here, the stars kinda alligned. I was looking for a new modern deck. Opened a promo planar bridge at prerelease and a masterpiece plat angel in draft, and looked for decks that could run either. U-Tron is probably the only deck that can run both without being a major mistake. I love the idea of tronlands, and love casting big spells, but am not a fan of the linearness of Gx Tron builds so this archetype really suits exactly what I want to do.
Does or has anyone played Rune Snag in the place of remand or mana leak? I feel like with Thirst For Knowledge its more likely to be better on average than mana leak, right?
Whats the general opinion on Lifecrafter's Bestiary? Does it get good value in this deck, or is it generally a dead draw/win-more type card? Does it sometimes win games?
I would love to see monuments/wonders. Maybe 1 mana artifacts that require X number of build counters to gain a really strong effect. And the way to get build counters is "Tap an untapped creature you control and pay 1: Place a build counter on ~". A cycle of these could be sweet.

Enchantment
All land, creature, artifact and enchantments in graveyards are considered permanents.
You realise thatmeans they have all their abilities, can attack, block, etc. Basically as if they were on the battlefield rather than in the graveyard?
Butterfly SliceB
Instant
Destroy target creature. Put the top X cards of your library into your graveyard, where X is the destroyed creature's converted mana cost.
Yeah mb, didn't know how to say "For spells and permanents' rules text, cards in graveyard are considered permanents"
Floundering Forest - Nonbasic Forest Land
If ~ entered the field from the library, it enters the field untapped and you may place a Charge counter on ~.
If ~ entered from your hand, it enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add G to your mana pool.
T, Remove a Charge Counter: Add 1 mana of any colour to your mana pool.
Since you don´t have access to Cabal Therapy and Phyrexian Tower it´s not that busted plus almost all Decks in Modern play 1-3 Basics minimum. So you are not the only one who goes searching
ooh please no. This just feeds scapeshift decks even more.
Anyone tried planar bridge? I get that its kinda winmore but I opened it at prerelease and wanna know if its worth running
some swear by it, others think its a win-more card because for that amount of mana investment, you can just go for the slaver lock..personally, i don't run it..
My only qualm with slaverlock over planar bridge is that slaverlock requires 2 cards, whereas I guess if you resolve planar bridge, you can then play anything you like either that turn or the following turn. I might test it against my meta and see if its too slow or not
Variable Enhancer7
Artifact
When Variable Enhancer enters the battlefield, choose a permanent type. X in spells and abilities you control is equal to the number of permanents of the chosen type that you control. (You cannot pay for X in spells and abilities you control, as X is already determined).

also is seas that effective vs tron? Doesn't it still give them tron if they have all 3 up, even if you seas one of them? so basically instead of them having 7 mana they have 5 and U (or 4 if you hit the tower). Am I wrong?
yeah my mistake, I played a game vs RG tron on xmage, spreading seas'd a tron piece and he still had 3-piece tron. Must just be a bug on xmage or something

Whenever a spell is countered, you may search your library for up to three copies of a spell with the same name and put them in your hand. "You lost it? Well I think I have a few copies around here somewhere..."

I know he's not strictly a faerie, but Ninja of the Deep Hours is kinda nuts in combination with faeries. There's a really nice build that has him + ETB faeries out there somewhere

EDIT: said 1 card instead of 2 cards
