Jace's Phantasm works well against burn.... stone walls their creatures at least and it's hard for them to get rid of. Sometimes the life off Crypt Incursion is just enuf. I'd disagree that Archive Traps are useless as Boros Burn typically runs ~10 fetches.....
Didn't do too well yesterday at CLT classic. 2-3 before heading home, lost to combo (counters CoCo 2x, +GriselHoard) - Overall, not sure the deck is strong enough (with me piloting at least) to do well at a big tourney. For the two matches I won, the only thing Vengevine did was act as 4/3 haste creature for four. Seems (to me) we have to play a lot of sub-optimal cards (Gather the pack, Greenbelt, faithless, etc.) to enable Vengevine...... Almost wondering if Naya revolt zoo would be better.... but that is a completely diff deck discussion.
Anyhow, Switching to Boros Burn for GP Vegas cos I know it pretty well.
Thanks for posting. Rhonas looks to be an interesting addition. I see you dropped the Hidden Herbalists. Good call! #most frustrating grizzly bear ever! :-P
Howdy y'all - I'm getting tired of running burn and not having a lot of success with 8-Rack but lately having a BLAST playing take on Kortero's version. So, thought I'd take this to the Charlotte open next weekend and know i'll at least have FUN all day. Any Sideboard advice from someone who has been playing this awhile in a competitive meta??
I see some Burn lists are mostly boros with a single (or two) stomping ground to run D. Rev and (sometimes) atarka's command out of the side. These lists often will have Skull Crack maindeck. I'm curious the reasoning behind running SC main and AC in the side? Atarka's seems strictly better (more versatile) except for some rare exceptions where an inexperienced opponent would block the a Kor Firewalker or Master of waves.
Lavaman used to really shine against infect but that deck has all but disappeared from the format since Gitax Probe was banned. I used to MB two Lavamen, moved them to board now stopped running them altogether.
I ran harsh mentor yesterday at a Sunday FNM like event as a 4 of to try it. #fail. All afternoon long HM did 2 damage total. While Eidolon shone all day doing well over 20 points damage off his effect; helped I played storm ;-) Anyhow, I was hoping Harsh Mentor would be like Eidolon's little brother when he was more like an infant baby sister. Will run a few in SB for awhile and see if has a place there.
I've been splashing black for rain of gore in the SB. Works very well against kitchen finks, helix, scooze, etc. and destroys soul sisters (which shows up now and again in our Chicago Meta). Unfortunately doesn't help against lifelink.
BTW first time out Went 3-1 yesterday at LGS. Swept Tron, bant eldrazi and an odd mono green eldrazi goblin charbelcher brew. Lost close match to scapeshift where had opponent down to 2 life in both losses b4 he "scapeshifted". Very good deck and often can win T3. I didn't seem to sideboard much at all.
Hi Izzetmage - Great Primer thx for writing it. This deck looks incredibly fun and has been playing well in our local group. Will try at LGS (Dice Dojo Chicago) today and see how it goes. Question, has anyone tried Goyfs in the deck? Seems like a decent sideboard card at least for defense against other Deathshadow / Goyf strategies.

Is it to limit damage from having to fetch the stomping grounds very often?? For reference see decklist that took 4th at ATL classic http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=113256

Has anyone tried this in a R/W prison? Seems like it might have a place in the 3 drop spot in land destruction build.
