Went 3-0-1 at FNM last night with Mardu Pyro

I have been building this deck for a couple of weeks and compared my list to Gerry T's and made some changes based on what he was running.

Let me be very clear on how powerful Manamorphose is in this deck. It's essentially Street Wraith in this deck in allowing us to virtually run a 56 card deck. It also triggers Young Pyromancer, Prowess, and helps cast Bedlam Reveler once it's in the graveyard. I had times where playing 2 Manamorphose in the same turn, following it up with a removal spell was so good with Reveler and Peezy in play. I was only running 3 Manamorphose but I will be looking to add the 4th one, I think it is a very strong choice in this deck.

I also ran a 1-of Darkblast just to try it out. I didn't draw into it, but I saw plays where it would've been relevant. I plan on keeping it in for now as a 1-of.

Blood Moon performed well for me, but I am running 3 in the sideboard and 0 main deck. I am not convinced on main decking this card, yet. While it is extremely disruptive I couldn't justify it in every game 1 I play. I am also running 2 Fulminator Mage in the side board and brought in all 5 against Tron. Tron was the only game I tied in, and I seemingly blew out every one else I played against.

I know the guys I played against as well, these were all good players who have played for a long time and regularly top 8. Most of my games I felt like I never ran out of gas, and the deck just keeps coming.

Tron was a tough game, we were both playing very fast, but between the Moon's and Chalice's, we went back and forth for so long the game ended in time. I do think I truly over-sideboarded in this game. I was trying the new build for the first time and thought I wasn't taking any chances. I ended up over-sideboarding and I think it cost me the win. The match resulted in my only game loss of the evening, and was ruled a tie due to going into time.

My advice for playing this deck, despite who you are and how good you are: Don't sleep on Manamorphose in this deck. Try out at least 1-2 FNM with 4 Manamorphose main deck, and do not side them out. That card is so good in this deck. Alongside Faithless Looting you can just mill through your own deck and the Prowess/Peezy triggers are equally clutch. I was very hesitant towards playing it at first when I saw the 1-of in Gerry T's list. At the time I owned 3 copies, so I just stuffed all 3 in with high hopes. Now I am actively pursuing the 4th copy to run the playset main deck. Do not underestimate this card in this build. You always cast something behind it. So it will equal 2 Prowess or 2 Peezy triggers. It can fix your mana to hardcast Lingering Souls from your hand if you are missing the White source.

I am only running 8 creatures right now and it seems fine. I was considering Monastery Mentor prior to reading this thread, but after someone suggest looking at Hazoret the Fervent, I think I want to acquire a copy of this card. It fits the plan perfectly: direct damage to the face, discards spells for reveler, discards lingering souls, not to mention the 4cmc cost tops off our curve nicely. Kills Gurmag Angler, kills Reality Smasher, etc. I think Hazoret is a very justifiable 1-of. I am also considering running Gurmag myself. This deck fills the graveyard so fast, alongside Fetch Lands. You probably wouldn't want to, but I can foresee a turn 2 Gurmag in this deck as well with turn 1 Faithless Looting and figure it fits the plan since you are actively filling the graveyard in this deck. I am also running 1-of Darkblast and find the dredge relevant. It will fill the graveyard for Reveler and potentially Gurmag.

Looking for some clarification on this particular scenario:

Player 1 has a Welding Jar and 1 Arcbound Ravager in play
Player 2 casts and replicates Shattering Spree, sending two copies at the Ravager

Player 2 does this with the intention of beating through the potential regeneration shield of the Welding Jar, should Player 1 choose to attempt to protect his Ravager with Welding Jar.

I know this is basic af but I appreciate any clarification in advance.

Hi guys, been tuning Grixis Control/Delver for the past few months since I got back into the game back in January. I finally grabbed the AV's so I made the switch to control and here is my list:

    Meta Calls:
There are literally probably 4-6 Burn Decks at my LGS per tournament so Dragon's Claw is good here.
There are also many decks playing tokens, as well as Lingering Souls, so Electrolyze has been really good as a 1-of.
There are also ton's of Tron and/or Eldrazi Variants running around, so I get a lot of use out of Ceremonious Rejection

I used to love Dreadbore as a 2-1 split with Terminate in the MD but it's been feeling worse and worse lately.
Collective Brutality was a 1-1 split MD-SB when I played it as Delver, but I moved the MD into the SB to make room for the control cards. But I have been considering putting it back into the MD as a 1-of.

The deck has been really solid honestly, I don't know what the problem in certain Match-Up's is. I feel like I either go 2-0 by a mile, 0-2 by a mile, or 2-1 by the skin of my teeth. At my LGS the two decks that give me the most trouble is easily Eldrazi and Tron.

The people at my LGS are really various. We get 40-50 people at FNM and 75% of them are playing meta decks and the other 25% is playing rogue good stuff. I feel like even the most roguey decks at my LGS are playing 3-4 Tarmogoyf. Not that Goyf has been a problem for me, it just shows how diverse my LGS meta is. They also change really often as well depending on what is being played at the last GP/PTQ. These guys are on top of it. Last week we had 8 people show up with Grixis Shadow alone...

I am solely invested in Grixis colors right now as I just came back to the game earlier this year. I honestly don't care to switch decks for any reason. I enjoy playing Grixis and I feel like I have great Match-Up's against the meta. Granted no pro-players are at my LGS, but these guys are packing the top tier decks every week and I am regular at Top 8 with Grixis Control. I don't want to be one of those guys that complains about every deck being a bad match-up. Grixis definitely is a force to be reckoned with, and it will always be relevant. I guess I'm just asking if anything seems wrong here, considering my Burn-Heavy meta. I did take Dispel out of my SB as my other counter magic has been effective enough, and I don't usually face too many other control decks at my LGS.

I recently acquired a 3rd Kolaghan's Command and I have been considering adding that and either 1 Gurmag Angler or a 3rd Tasigur, the Golden Fang. I haven't been having much trouble finishing out winning games, but I suppose I might try a more consistent list?

What are y'all suggestion if I wanted to add 1 K-Command, 1 Tasigur/Fish, and 1 Brutality from the SB into the MD? What changes would be appropriate?

Blood Moon, Fulminator Mage, Ceremonious Rejection, Thoughtseize, Damnation come to mind here as sideboard choices.
Thoughtseize could be played maindeck over Brutality/Electrolyze or instead of some counterspells if you expect to see many Eldrazi Decks.

Thanks. Regarding Blood Moon and Fulminator, what exactly would be the difference in the two? I mean most lists I see run 2 of one or the other. Is that a meta call? Are they both for the same match-ups? Is one better for some match-ups than others? Both being 3-cmc and being an answer to lands, are there some situations where one is better than the other? I guess Fulminator might be cooler because it doesn't hit my lands, and I suppose has synergy with Surgical Extraction?

Any advice for Bant Eldrazi match-up? Playing the classic delver list with Young Pyro. What are some good sideboard options and Main Deck strategy for Bant Eldrazi? I just lose every Game 1 to this match up.

Hi guys, new here. I recently got back into the game after about 10~ years and have built Grixis Delver and I am planning on acquiring cards to convert it to Grixis Control. This is the list I have come up with, its relatively close to what I'm running in Delver just with the added control cards. The lands are simply what I am working with right now, and I am currently looking to get more fetch's, etc. Despite having a few discard cards, I am mostly trying to play it as hard counter/removal control. The 1 Batterskull is in there just because I really like that card. Haven't fully decided a sideboard yet because I want to decide on a Main Deck list first before I move on to the Sideboard. I am currently considering removing Collective Brutality and possibly Electrolyze and 1 Fatal Push and possibly running more Counterspells. Looking for feedback/advice for a returning player :p

    Hello MTGSalvation!

I am based out of Nashville, TN. I am 29 years old and first started playing back during Onslaught block with my half brother and his dad. We played all throughout high school. We had a grass cutting company and several of us played at varying degree's. My brother, me, and his dad were really into tournament style of playing. After Big T stopped playing, I started to card pool with a childhood friend of mine all through high school up until college. After having two really bad run-ins, we were robbed twice by people we trusted, I decided to take a break from the game. I let my buddy Ryan keep everything, as he was still into playing and I trusted him with the stuff. A few years later after college, he was moving to Colorado for a job opportunity. He asked if I wanted to sit down and split the cards up, but I told him just to give me a fair split out of the collection, this included some newer stuff(to me) he had acquired over the years that was added to the collection. (After going through the cards and pricing them out - I ended up with a nice split. I realize time adds value and these are older cards so at the time they might not have been worth much, but he treated me very well in the end.)

That stuff sat in my closet for over several years before my brother Todd called me one day, he decided to he wanted to get back into it, and I had been kind of already thinking about it myself. This was back in November 2016. I spent the next few months learning about the new formats, checking out the top decks, and spending countless hours combing through the cards I had left over(several thousands).

I knew I wanted to play Modern. I remember had much I disliked constructed standard back in the day, and I really only liked to play Limited. Modern is an entirely new format to me. I think they had the Extended format back when I last played, but it wasn't as good as Modern seems now. I want to also eventually get into Legacy, and I fully intend to. I may consider checking out Standard after the new set is released as I still have a lot of homework to do on Standard.

Right now I am focused on playing Grixis in Modern. My buddy Ryan had left me cards specifically for that build because he knew I enjoyed playing control. I want to acquire all of the possible variants, but I just finished the "Classic Delver" list. I plan on getting the Grixis control list cards, next. Once I finish Grixis entirely, I will probably try to build some kind of aggro deck for Modern. I am planning on also playing Grixis in Legacy since a lot of the cards are similar and I can just get the Legacy cards and port the deck over. I'm not necessarily on the strictest of budgets, but I am still very conservative with my money. I think the current plan is to trade as much of the cards I got left over as I can, then I will eventually sell all cards I have left over that I don't actually use in a deck as I don't really care about collecting cards anymore.(Maybe that'll change once I actually start playing.)

I am greatly looking forward to getting back into the game. We are planning on checking out all PTQ's and GP's we can possibly attend in the South-East US. We are looking forward to making several vacations a year out of MTG tournaments. I have been creeping on these forums since probably at least January, and upon receiving the last actual card I needed for my deck, I told myself the next step was signing up for these forums, and trying to get involved into the discussion. There are a LOT of new mechanics since I last played. I recently learned combat damage doesn't go on the stack anymore, for instance. I have also never personally played with a planeswalker card.

I also found my original DCI card, it is dated from 2003. Grin

Anyway glad to be here. I look forward to learning more about the game and the new decks. It is almost an entirely new game since I last played. I still haven't actually participated in a LGS tournament yet, but there is a local Modern tournament on Sundays that I will start going to.
