I don't doubt that a couple Planeswalkers may die, there are quite a few who didn't have the impact that Wizards had hoped they would, or straight up cannon fodder 'walkers that were never meant to be all that important. (Arlinn Kord, Huatli, Tibalt, forgetting a few that literally are forgettable.)

And if anything, we're definitely gonna lose some Ravnican legends. Sad

Tibalt is in the new Chandra comics that happens after War of the Spark, so he'll not kick the bucket, sorry.

Wait, you're saying the whole comic is a spoiler?
Yep. You can get the first comic now and it basically reads as aftermath.

WotC and Hasbro were not at Toyfair NY as they didn't pay rent for space. Instead Hasbro had a separate event where they just were talking about their other properties. All they chatted about regarding MTG is "Amazon" and "Digital".

Personally, going with the option "The marketing department has been replaced by rhesus monkeys mindslaved to bolas".

It would kind of make sense since her alternative card art is one of the few that's still left after two Mythic Edition PW batches, and it's not unreasonable to assume they'll do another one for WAR. If all the other Mythic Edition PWs show up on Ravnica for War of the Spark, it would be weird if Elspeth was the odd one out. On the other hand, it feels weird to bring her directly into this story without any foreshadowing whatsoever, especially since her underworld situation has been widely assumed to serve as a plot hook for a return to Theros...
I agree. The best interpretation I could give is maybe Liliana is in some silvery battle armor rather than it being Elspeth.

Does the figure coiled in Bolas’s tail look like Elspeth or is that just me seeing it?
    Got that impression as well.

Hopefully it provides much details on Teyo's homeplane as it already sounds very interesting. Also hopefully that Teyo is a very interesting and well-developed character.

Arena might have issues, but bad programming is seriously not one of them. The card design is simply a huge issue and even worse if you can't call a judge on someone. This has nothing to do with programming but everything to do with card design.

I mean Maro went on record and said that Nexus should have exiled itself.
Not necessarily true. There was the issue with Captive Audience that got quickly patched in which the player was not automatically forced to pick an option and the game could not proceed until an option was picked. There was also the issue with deciding to create a functional errata with Ajani's Pridemate instead of implementing an "always yield" option. Also it is actually still possible to do the Hostage Taker combo which creates an infinite loop as long as three takers in total are played and at least one is from the opponent which results in another case of the game unable to proceed except through conceding. Among many other examples that do or don't get patched out in usually a speedy manner.

Its not that there isn't bad coding, but that due to combinatorics when designing for a digital platform when involving a card game with so many options, these are bound to pop-up due to the coding not properly handle it and appearing as bad coding. MTG itself is actually a very complex game with several possible moving parts in a given game. Its not uncommon to hear that a judge is called over for a rules question or that a post is made for one for clarification. That these complexities can be taken for granted when applied to a non-physical medium.

What I'm hoping for is when most of the planeswalkers (both pro-Bolas and Pro-Gatewatch) are either dead or on their knees, Tibalt suddenly realizes he's been ****ed over and turns on Bolas and wins out of sheer surprise to everyone, even Bolas.

Zero to Hero. The Magic community would be stunned.

The planeswalker we need, not the planeswalker we deserve.

This has got to be a masterpiece series. I can't see how they would justify putting 36 planeswalkers in the set. Even if they downshifted half of them to rare, there's still the fact that planeswalkers are complicated and incredibly difficult to balance. They'd have to purposefully overcost each planeswalker just to make sure they don't warp standard, and I can't see that going over well.
Maybe a masterpiece series of 20? the prior mythic edition sets had 8 each, 8+8+20=36

Kiora, Nahiri, Koth... it seems hard to imagine all of these 'walkers are organically included into the story.
Not sure what the Eternals are for though.

Maybe the quick transfer of sparks only works into sparkless bodies, so Bolas needs an army of easily controlled willing vessels to carry the sparks off-plane where the slow process of merging them into a super-spark can begin.

Or maybe the spark-stealing requires physically weakened planeswalkers, so an army to pummel them into unconsciousness is a handy thing to have.

I prefer the route that gives us a Neheb planeswalker. Wink
Kind of makes me wonder if Nicol Bolas has experimented with spark transference in the past or at least had heard about the incident on Mirrodin.

Being honest though, all I want out of this set is a new Tibalt card.

Or, at least, "lots of them lose their PW spark"
Bolas stealing their sparks makes more sense to me.

He promised to Ral, Vraska, Domri, Dovin, and Kaya positions of power over their guilds. It would make sense that Bolas would play the "guess you won't be needing this anymore" card and steal their sparks, trapping them permanently on Ravnica as legendary creatures.

And then, of course, there's the fact that he plans to lure the Gatewatch to Ravnica too, probably to steal their sparks also.

I am a bit confused about where the Immortal Sun and the Eternal army come into his plan, but whatever.

Immortal Sun: Otherwise, they might figure out what's happening and escape. This way, they figure out what's happening, they're still stuck on Ravnica.

Not sure what the Eternals are for though.
If the assumption is correct that every walker gets their spark taken and becomes depowered, they are going to have to deal with Nicol Bolas's personal army of eternals and are more likely to die in their spark-less state.

That makes sense, though Bolas already has what he wants.

I'd caution I wouldn't take this too literally. One of those windows is Koth, why would he be on Ravnica again, other than "Everyone is here!"
Fair point, I'm still thinking how Sorin escaped from the rock.

Lol I paraphrase all posts of yours and you call it petty and leaps of logic.
You mean them putting holes in you're defenses is leaps in logic? Pffft, I think a certain Bolas's buttons got pushed.

    Sure pro. Cry on.
Is this your only retort? Pretty sure this is why you're a one-trick pony that keeps repeating it as if that is so supposed to make a dent. Man who would've thunk it, Nicol Bolas whose been corrupted by Phyrexians is this bad at mentally thinking up a comeback.

Tell me more about how much you hate sets from years ago.
I don't. There is flaws, but I don't hate it.

Why not just necro the Aetherworks Marvel thread if it has personally offended you so much?
Because that is a job for you and its something you would do.

Back to the card itself: Getting to ten permanents and having a tenable board state is a challenge worth an "emblem" Especially one that only works on some of the cards in a small set, and doesn't scale. If this is the kind of card we get, it seems like an okay mechanic.
    Not a challenge.
