Hazoret is neither correct nor incorrect. And there is no need to be pompous, nor call anybody names on this forum please.

On the other side of the equation - when cards and builds have results, calling cards used in those builds 'rubbish' or belittling those choices seems pretty narrow minded as well. For example - Kessig Wolf Run and Birds of Paradise.

It is correct to say that Hazoret has no results, because it is true.

Whether you agree with the results or not is up to the individual, and is part of the deck tuning process. I'd like to take this opportunity to remind the forum that we are here to learn from each other and bounce ideas off of each other, not force others into an education in what we subjectively deem correct.

    So Jeff Hoogland did an analysis of the non-MTGO meta since the un-bannings, and despite lumping Jeskai Midrange and Control together, his analysis shows tier 1 (top 5 placing decks in this sample) to be;

    Burn - 16 placings
    Humans - 16 placings
    Jeskai Control - 16 placings
    Jund - 16 placings
    Gx Tron - 14 placings

So despite our own opinions, there is verifiable data suggesting that Jeskai is tier 1 still in the new meta, and the best currently placed Jace deck. Link to article below.

@0oSunnYo0 I see in your bio you play green/red Ponza? Since you understand the deck well, how do you play around it with Jeskai? Is there any strategy to shutting them out?

It has been my worst matchup lately and I hate going up against it because I feel like I'm not even playing magic as they take me off of all of my colors.. lol

Fair question. It really is built to beat control and big mana, so it's a tough match-up for 3-colour control. Even straight UW is somewhat weak to it. We used to run Thrun a lot more in the deck. Now with BBE it's hardly needed.

    A) always bolt/path the bird in upkeep to take them off a t2 moon/rain etc. The deck usually plays no 2-drops. If their t1 play is Utopia Sprawl then Jeskai has few answers though.

    B) t2 counterspells are key

    C) land heavy hands are good against 50% of Ponzas' openers so they are not necessarily a bad thing. You may just get run over by t2 BBE or Chandra though.

    D) Choose a colour to protect post board. You can't really expect to protect Cryptic mana AND all your white or double white spells. Plan accordingly and choose what to fight over. This can mean it's correct to board out most cryptics, or verdicts and helixs etc. Be aware of Stormbreath if you cut verdicts. Settle the Wreckage is good if you can protect WW.

Jeskai had the tools and the fetches to both beat and play around Moon etc. But sometimes you just don't have it line up and there's nothing you can do. The first two turns are absolutely crucial.

Hazoret is a fine card in the deck.

It's not 'correct' to play Haz but there are good things she brings to the table.

And Kessig Wolf Run is not a terrible card, it's a great card that isn't great with Blood Moon. We happen to run 4 Blood Moons. When no moon is on the table it's just fine.

Colossus also dodges pretty much all non exile removal as well and trades favourably with the biggest Goyfs. Haz just chumps them.

Trinisphere is a 2-of in a SB of a deck with maybe 4 interaction spells in its 75. If you face a spell-based combo deck, that can win on Turn 3, do you really rely on all of 2 cards to stop them? Seems like super poor odds, to me.

Excuse me, but I have to point out that we play around 10-16 interactive cards MD.

Stone Rain, Stone Rain, Stone Rain, Stone Rain, Molten Rain, Molten Rain, Molten Rain, Blood Moon...

    Haaaa.

On a more serious note he got a bit lucky against Storm in the finals. His opponent drew badly and didn't mulligan when he should have. I would be packing 3 Trini myself but, I have never won a large event.

Very happy with the result though.

Andrew Wolbers stated he would drop 1 inferno titan next time around. I would go -1 Titan +1 Dragon.

The lack of Acid Moss is not surprising. It's not really synergistic with BBE and let's be honest... Ponza didn't play more than 8 dedicated LD spells pre-BBE, going over 8 now that we have BBE doesn't make any sense. Acid Moss is the obvious cut that people still hold on to. Sure it is nice with tracker and sure it ramps to titan, but really... there are better things we can do with 4 mana, especially since the slot is crowded with BBE.

    I can see a split of 3 cryptic 2 Jace or 2 cryptic 2 Jace being fine. I'm on;

    2 Cryptic
    2 Jace
    2 Verdict
    1 Gideon AoZ
    1 Secure the Wastes

Just fyi, Damping Sphere should not impact Utopia Sprawl. It is a triggered ability that does not use the stack, it does not make the land itself tap for more mana.

    Correct

Mardu Pyro is a grind-fest, but the reality is that they run only 8 threats, 4 of which get 2 for 1'd with electrolyze, and don't have access to stubborn denial. Their board is also wrecked by Verdict easily.

Sure they can strip your hand but you have so much removal that there is no way they can kill you quickly. You have just as much value and card draw as they have. Just save your counters for Reveler and K-command if possible.

Lingering souls is annoying of course. If your having trouble with this MU I suggest Staticaster out of the board.

Also... consider keeping less than ideal 7s for the sake of card parity. Heavy mulligans will hurt you badly.

This is also a MU where Azcanta shines, because barring Fulminator out of the board, I don't believe Mardu runs FoR.
