Something I thought up. Wish there a creature in Modern that allows you to draw a card when it enters the field. Thragtusk nets you life while when it leaves you net 3/3 creatures. Huntermaster nets you life & wolves and when it flips over, shocks them. You can do without Primeval Titan but it does net you lands quick like Kessing Wolf Run for a backup finisher. 2 of each major basic in the event you go up against Blood Moon/Blood Magus decks. The fetch lands let you grab virtually any of the shocks you'll need. There's fast lands that are playable even check lands. But I'm not sure about an appropriate balance of shock, basic, fast and check lands. Venser is a constant Blink that can also give your quick KO with his minus ability & The last one is also just plain fun.
Would be a VERY interesting deck idea. You'd have to protect it though. There's stuff you can use from Kamigawa Block that says "You do use the Legendary Rule" or something like that, it'll allow you to get stuff out while your opponent cannot.
Cartouche of Knowledge only gives +1/+1, but seems better than spectral flight because of the card draw.
I forgot about the Cartouche's they do count as cards for Tarmogoyf to make him bigger. So I dropped Spectral Flight for Knowledge because of that card draw.
The first thing I have to say is that it will be very difficult to cast Daybreak Coronet with "just" 4x Temple Garden and 5 fetchlands consistently in the early turns. But eh, the life link is needed and its the best card in that slot.
If you want to make the "high" mana cost of 3 your forte I'd suggest to use Trinisphere as a way to make your opponents suffer while your deck still works fine with it. This way you might catch some aggro and combo decks like the new UR Phoenix off guard while developing a threat with Dungrove Elder will be clearly superior to the usual bogle in that given context. On that note Unflinching Courage and Armadillo Cloak both are easier to cast than Daybreak Coronet while also perfectly fitting the 3 mana theme. Also I have to reinforce the suggestion of Search for Tomorrow from Amerigo99 as it also fits perfectly in this train of thought.
I didn't think about Trinisphere and a lot of the stuff already is a 2 drop, 1 more wouldn't hurt especially with the amount of lands and speed. I put them in my sideboard however. I like Armadillo Cloak more but it's NOT Modern Legal, so I put in Unflinching Courage over Daybreak Coronet. What would I drop or reduce for Search for Tomorrow? Maybe the Sakura-Tribe Elders as they put them in tapped.
I'd honestly build it as Naya as you WANT to keep blinking out Huntmaster and possibly Solemn Simulacrum to get out basics. Even if you don't use Solemn, you can still keep blinking in and out Huntmaster to gain life and wolves. Plus when he's Ravager, he can kill some creatures.
However RUG might be better as it does have cheaper blinks. Naya VS Rug is rough. Here's a list of blinking cards you may like...
Thank you for the opinion. I've updated accordingly to reflect some changes. Sakura-Tribe Elder I think will do better than Birds, so I set it for 5 fetch lands and two islands to in the event my Breeding Pool's get wrecked or Blood Moon/Magus.
There's no such thing as "best" otherwise it would be a tier 0 format. But if you're asking if there's a artifact deck that's doing good, it's MUD Workshop.
You/Yousei made a good point, I editted my list to cut back on Dark Confidant. I put in Sign in Blood over Night's Whisper as in a pinch, you can burn your opponent to death for a safer win, but it can also net you two cards. I did forget to count how many 4/5 drops as getting more than 1 or 2 in a row can quickly run your life out, even if you are playing a lot of lifelink.
Look what's big in your meta and build around that. If you're trying to take this to say Pro Tours or Star City Games or Card Titans and other MTG events, be sure to check the top deck lists and think. If you see there's a lot of Affinity Decks, both Arcbound Ravager & Hardened Scales Modular, use Doom Blade. If you see a lot of Death's Shadow, use Go for the Throat. My area uses a lot of burn & affinity for example. you could ALWAYS put a fun card like Griselbrand in
I put in 4 different fetch lands, you don't have to play one of each. You can run four copies of one if you wish.
If you're having difficulty getting mana, you can either splash green in for ramp like Rampant Growth, Primeval Titan, Farseek or Birds of Paradise, if you do the green/black shockland is Overgrown Tomb and is currently cheap as it's in standard and heavily printed. Another choice is Solemn Simulacrum as it'll grab you a basic land and net you a card when it dies. Drop Victim of Night for either Doom Blade, Go for the Throat or Fatal Push as those will hit almost 90% of what's played, if you're trying to get Revolt to happen, simply any black fetch lands work or even Sakura-Tribe Elder if you decide to do the green route.
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is also a FAST mana ramp for mono devotion. Geralf's Messenger is WAY better for a zombie deck. I'd run the Vampire Nighthawks over him. Drop the Gatekeeper of Malakir for Dark Confidant as it's simply a better creature that also nets you cards. You might be losing a little life per turn but with your creatures who have lifelink, those are negligible. It'll just suck a lot if you top a Phyrexian Obliterator, but it's worth the gamble. I'd personally use four copies of Liliana of the Veil and drop Last Hope, but that's just me.
Why use Whip of Erebos & Drown in Sorrow when Damnation exists? That's better for clearing a field of tokens, problems and/or Dark Confidant if he's doing too much pain to you. Plus if your'e using Bloodghast like you were wondering about, they'd be easy loses as you'd get them back with a land drop for the turn.
I play Bogles in Modern. It's fun to get around stuff like Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt, Fatal Push, etc. I got to ebay to buy ALL my magic. I don't bother going to stores.
