People use the phrase "bad design"/"lazy design" way too often imo and I especially don't like it when it's just used to basically "hide" the fact that they simply don't like the card as a whole or think it's not strong enough. To me, design is all about function. So even a 3/3 for 3 can be considered "good design" if it fulfills its purpose in any given environment, even if it's not exciting in any way. "Boring design" I can live with. Mind you, I don't think Chromiums ability is the pinnacle of interesting design either. But I still like it more than Palladia-Mors (which I think is legit boring) and I think people are just trying to brand it as "bad design" when they really just don't like it because it's not as exciting as they wished it to be. It's like saying Rekindling Phoenix is bad design because your opponent could just remove the token (inb4 "but that one doesn't cost 7 mana").

Probably boring design is better definition than bad design in this case. But i can undestand the disappointing because these are the elder dragons, not a random legend.
A 3/3 for 3 may be good design, but a 3/3 elder dragon for 3 surely it's not. At least for me. The elder dragons have a name, a flavor, an history behind them and you can't expect people to ignore them.
Palladia Mors is what aggravated the problem. Chromium probably received more hate than Palladia because it came after. With Palladia everyone was like "ew she sucks, but it's just a card in a cycle of 5, who cares". But after seeing Chromium, people were like "again? This card is terrible, this isn't what i want from an elder dragon!" because instead of being only 1 card, now it's 50% of the spoiled cycle.
We can only hope for a good Arcades Sabboth. By good i mean creative and fun, not good in standard.

What do you mean by "boring" here? This word is so overused that it's almost a buzzword.

Also, why do you think Chromium isn't "fun" or "creative"?

I rermember when Khans came out people didn't think much of Dragonlord Ojutai. Then it ended up hitting 30 dollars or so when it was in standard. this feels kinda similar.

Ojutai is a lot easier to play with than Chromium, though. I mean, Hexproof so long as he's untapped? He's in THE definitive Tap/Untap colors. Card draw as a result of damage that can't be easily blocked? Icing on the cake.

That didn't stop people from underestimating Ojutai due to his conditional hexproof, which is the point. This happens every time cards that have glaring drawbacks or aren't overtly busted are spoiled, because some segment of the playerbase habitually assesses these cards in a vacuum. This happened with Hazoret, baby Jace, Liliana, the Last Hope and even Emrakul, the Promised End, with the latter being mainly because it wasn't as strong as Aeons Torn.

Incredible is not a word I'd expect of Tezzeret.
Motivating, enticing, inspiring, inductive, incipient maybe. But what can we expect from the people who gave us "being-in-the-way-of-a-millennia-old-vampire" and Kronk's dissertation on Avacyn's collar and how much werewolves hate it.

Or maybe he got so high from whatever he was experiencing with the Planar Bridge that he wasn't in full control of his emotions for a moment.

So can one consider this a shoe-in for blue artifact EDH decks (which is most of them)?

    Stop killing white PW!

The card is just showing Ajani fighting Bolas at the Maelstrom on Alara. He may or may not die in the future, but this card isn't about that.

One ability for Grapeshot, the other for Empty the Warrens? Not exactly subtle.

Between this and Damping Sphere, it's almost like Wizards dislikes Storm.

More token hate, because they were tearing up the format as it is. Smile

The first ability is interesting, but I don't know if it's better than Witchbane Orb in Modern artifact decks.

Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma 3G
    Legendary Creature — Bear (Rare)
Creature spells you cast with power 4 or greater cost 2 less to cast.
Whenever Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma attacks, each creature you control with power 4 or greater gets +1/+1 and gains trample until end of turn.
You don't want to know how she got that name.
    4/3

is Qal Sisma a place in Tarkir? If not they named it wrong. Also can Surrak fight this bear please?

Qal Sisma is a mountain range where the Temur and Atarka clans live. So yes, it's a place in Tarkir.

Well now Vraska has to petrify a Zombie and make it even.

The zombie is already dead, so unless it's a zombie with a name, it doesn't matter.

He is still a commander that cost 7 mana. And by the standard of ESPER Commanders enabling discard for free from the battlefield is rather low on the list of sheer brokenness. Free Life Gain & Card Draw, Enchantment Tutor, Artifact Recursion, Grand Theft and Artifact Mana Sink...those are the abilities of the top 5 current ESPER commanders for EDH, according to EDHREC. I say he is most like the first Oloro in that he gives you deck freedom to build however you want.

Besides the argument about not being good enough in EDH was not about Chromium Alone...how about his fellow revealed relatives. You want to rock a Palladia deck? How about a Vaevictis? At least the later has a fun ability one that is likely to backfire on you sadly.

Whatever one might think of the new versions of the Elders, I feel more confident in rocking these as commanders than their original versions.

Its a flashback doesn't change anything he is still the most likely to die in the Gatewatch.
    NISSA: AFK
    CHANDRA: Just met Jaya
JACE: Still got go back to Vyrn
    GIDEON: Back to Theros first
    LIlIANA: Raven Man
TEFERI: Zhalfir, Just Joined, New Phyrexia

I'd think that Ajani would be around when they inevitably bust Elspeth out of the Underworld.

What the hell were they thinking with chromium?
    Terrible commander

Not every legendary creature is made for Commander, even if it's an Elder Dragon.

BR now gets two chainwhirler effects? Way to go WOTC. Hell of a Job.

Yeah, what is up with that? Are they trying to kill token strategies dead or something?

Chromium’s ability is awful. I understand it’s flavor related, but yikes is that garbage. Its static stuff is fine at least. m

Why is Chromium's ability awful? Looking at it, giving himself hexproof for the turn by discarding a card (and he's something you'd theoretically run in a control deck, so cards to discard for him shouldn't be too much of a issue) doesn't seem terrible to me.

Also, regarding Omniscience, it's neat that Jodah Brawl has access to one of Jodah's best big spells.

I feel it's also worth mentioning that Bolas has an actual dragon snout in this one.

    Because he's in profile.

I don't think the Bolas depiction on the Core 2019 box would look like that, even in profile, and I have my doubts about his depiction in Arisen.

Well I always thought Ajani was the most likely to die against Bolas so I wonder if that is a spoiler or just a reference to their fight on Alara....

Considering the surroundings, the fact that this set is touching on Bolas's exploits in the past and the fact that Avatars are involved, I'm going with Alara fight.
