Well I plan on combo'ing it with liliana's caress and waste not. It's a pretty MEH card on it's own but can become a real deterent when combo'd with other discard oriented cards. Even dream salvage would be a good pairing to help you get back into the game if you fall behind.

When combo'd it becomes a good ensnaring bridge. That's how I view it.

Turning Burning Inquiry into a enchantment affect. Plays havoc in the opponents hand based on damage your dealt.

    Rakdos's Churn Mill BR
    Enchantment
For each point of damage you are dealt your opponent draws a card then randomly discards a card

EDIT: Just thought about this more.. I should of made it cost RR and called it Tibalt's defense.

Well cards are typically created for a cause. My inspiration for the card really was all the blue-control decks. It gives discard decks a way to combat then because right now there are far more drawing engines than there are discard engines. And most discard engines negatively affect both players (where as card draw typically only benefits the caster).

Can you reference some white cards you think are similar? I'd like to consider them.

But yeah I couldn't think of an awesome ultimate I think if anything maybe make it require less loyalty counters because it is kind of meh.

    Hi All,

Here is my plan for a new planeswalker to help combat the insane card draw blue gets in modern (and other formats). Blue is the bane of my 8 rack deck. It's inspired by Liliana of the Veil and chains of mephistopheles

    Liliana The Reckoning1BB
    Starting Loyalty: 3
+1 - each opponent can't draw more than one card until the end of your next first main phase
    -2 - each opponent discards a card
-6 - each opponent discards their hand

Does anyone else have problems with UW control or Jeskai control?

I find I can't finish them off early and just by shear top decking they start getting too much card advantage, they've got cryptic command, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, Search for Azcanta, snapcaster mage (getting more card draw) they get too much card advantage my discard can't keep up. Even if I do get lucky and pick out the card draw engines in the opening hand all their cards cycle through their deck so naturally they get land advantage and card advantage so they find their answers.

Ticks me off because blue I find is by far the most common decks on MTGO.

We need a card like chains of mephistopheles for modern. Something to combat all the extra draw.

All I'm saying is there are far more card advantage engines than discard engines. Discard all we really have is liliana of the veil, necrogen mist, Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palaceand kind of nezumi shortfang

But of those discard engines 3 of the 4 hurt us as well. Unlike control's draw engines which exclusively help them. Seems like we're getting a bad deal.

Destroy target non-land permanent, you lose life equal to it's casting cost

Black has a hard time dealing with permanents, how about a card which destroys permanents with a significant downside?

Maybe you guys are right a bit too strong. I didn't even realize Rix Maadi existed. too bad it needs R. Doesn't really fit into a mono black discard deck.

I'm trying to create a black land similar to geier reach sanitarium only it's discard only. Trying to help the discard decks a little.

I've been thinking about what would make this deck better.

I think we need a land which produces B. That we can pay 2 and make the opponent discard a card. Something similar to geier reach sanitarium only as a discard only affect without the drawing. I'd even be ok if it made us discard as well.

OR, some card that takes out leylines, but being mono black I couldn't imagine an effect that would work. All I could think of is something like destroy target permanent you lose life equal to it's casting cost. That way we have an answer to leylines, we just have to gauge whether we can risk the life loss or not. I'd have it cost 1BB.

That'd be my dream, something to answer planeswalkers and leylines.

I think you should have 8 rack effects but for a budget deck it looks pretty close to my non-budget version. Against control decks I SB in a few Necrogen mists on top of my LOTV. If possible I would like to see you increase that card to 4 of, since discarding 1 card a turn is the main effect we'd be using on LOTV anyway.

I had a question. With the new rules where the Rack won't be able to target planeswalkers. How are people dealing with that? I find it significantly weakened our deck especially VS planeswalkers who help draw cards. We really don't have a way of dealing with them now.

Anyone who plays the deck some knows win cons are not the problem, not losing games is the problem the deck can be fine tuned to solve. Winning is easy when you eliminate the possibility of your opponent winning.

Your word selection sounds awfully similar to platinum angel. Which is a card which will totally owns this deck. It has no answers for it and can not interact with it.

Another card which ticks me off is Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Oh you have 2 bridges down, oh you have 2 welding jar's, well let me just lay this card take out both your bridges and go to the face!

Tron has been my nightmare. Not enough hate, I always forget we have torpor orb. Takes to long to get the crucible and ghost quarters out some games too.

I don't think Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas is a good fit because I think what this deck needs is a non-targetting ability/ult to win. tezzeret the seeker gives the deck a go-wide option.

All the win conditions in the deck are "target player" so the deck struggles against leyline of sanctity. And engineered explosives is the only removal for a leyline. So you need a win condition which is not a targeted ability. Tezzeret the seeker gives us that.

And for modern this is a really expensive deck. Almost supports "Pay to win".

Every time I play this deck I always start the first 4 turns constantly talking to myself saying "WE'VE GOT TO PUT THE SHIELDS UP SCOTTY! WE NEED OUR SHIELDS!" when I can't get the defense on time I'm just like "WE'RE GOING DOWN CAPTAIN!"

I find the engineered explosives aren't that powerful. I'm surprised there a 4 of, but I guess they are your only defense before you get the engineering bridge lock up.

And I found most games are decided by concession (thankfully since all the win conditions are pretty slow on MTGO).

I put this deck together and it would seem i suck at it.

What's an ideal starting hand if you don't know what your up against? Even when I get a bridge down with a welding jar to back it up, the win cons still seem very far away.

The only thing that turns me off about playing this deck is it doesn't look very exciting.

I guess the tutoring aspect of the deck can be fun, but it basically looks like engineering bridge and chalice play for locks then look for a win con, whether that's milling, or pinging with various cards (spellbomb/aether grid).

I'd love to see the deck played if anyone knows of any youtube videos.

How does it combat Storm? Just the one damping sphere?
