I like Search for Azcanta in UW Control but I have never tried it in Grixis Control. I often take a Gods_Shadow list and make minor tweeks to it. I think it would be worth a try.

I agree about qhost quarter. I think a spicy single could be a risk some want to take, especially if running 3 or 4 wrenn and six but with only two wrenn and six in the main, I would go with none. Perhaps have one is the sideboard if you want to have something against tron or amulet. Otherwise, the list looks pretty cool, some interesting sideboard cards. Looking forward to hearing how you do.

@CreativeTheo I am interested in how your deck plays out. I am currently playing a variation of Gods_Shadow's deck and have enjoyed it, though I am unlikely to ever duplicate the success he has had. Young Pyromancer and Unearth in particular are very interesting to me... and if it is better than the Mardu Pyromancer build.

@Slowgod I have been doing something similar. Cutting one of this, two of that, and seeing how it works out without a true game plan for each matchup. Sometimes it works out well, but other times it feels like I have clearly made a mistake. I believe we should identify the "flex slots" and look to cut there first; next look to see if we are concerned with counters and perhaps cut a scapeshift or two; and so on. I would like to see a guide discssed and posted with the more common cards in mind.

I have played a half dozen matches or so on MTGo and this deck feels very strong. A turn 2 kill against UW was an awesome feeling. I can see that this deck will require a lot of practice (much like a storm deck) to get the most out of it. I am hoping that sideboard ideas and play patterns can be discussed now that there are some significant new cards added to the deck.

I like Thoughtseize in the sideboard as a proactive way to protect the combo. I lost 2 of the 6 matches... UW Control and UB Mill (which surprised me, but with surgical and unmoored ego, that deck was more difficult than I imagined it would be). I think I could have won UW match had I thought things throug better. I tried to draw with Griselbrand before attacking and taking out their Narsett (which prevents drawing more than one card) and several other costly miskaes.

Thanks for the correction. I suppose in my excitement with how the deck played out, I overlooked that detail. And I must add, Congratulations to Peter Bui. Well done.

Congrats to FlyingDelver for the outstanding performance at the Seattle Tacoma Modern 5K. I would recommend everyone take a look at the tournament report and video provided in the link below. And throwing the bolts to win in the finals.... classic.

Saw this list on MtgGoldfish and it was interesting in that it has 4 main deck kalitas, traitor of ghet and only 2 liliana of the veil. I will probably sleeve it up on MTGO, but also wanted to see if anyone else thought it was good... or perhaps just lucky.

I think Big Rock looks fun, but probably not meant to be a true competitve deck. I would sleeve it up for FNM and I imagine I would really enjoy crushing with a deck no one sees coming. Keep on Rockin'!

Thanks for responding. Although I know everyone has a bad streak and I allowed mine to doubt the deck. I will press on and I am sure things will improve.

I absolutely love the Rock deck, but my performance with it lately has been average at best... and some days very frustrating. I have also tried Jund and Abzan with very similar results. Going away from the Rock style, I have been toying with Grixis Shadow and Jund Shadow finding that the results have been better since there is that opportunity for a very fast kill that the Rock just does not have. Is anyone else experiencing the same? Or perhaps this is just pilot error in the face of these fast graveyard based strategies.

I am preparing for SCG Cleveland in April and I am looking for either reassurance (Just Jund 'Em Out) or advice to look to another deck temporarily.

Thanks for any assistance that can be given.

Akalah, thanks for posting the breakdown for us. Always nice to read how others are doing and the touts on the wins and losses.

I went 2-2 at FNM, with the Arclight deck as a loss, and that was the deck that went undefeated. I have done well against that deck online and went 1-2 irl. Beginning on the draw seems to be a bigger negative than against many other decks. Also my opponant was a very skilled player... better than me. I have faith in the BG build and believe that with tight play I can beat any deck. A dash of luck never hurts either.

On to the build... I used 3 Bobs, but think I will play with 4 going in ahead. Kalitas is a favorite of mine, but likely will put two in side with none in main. Keeping 3 trackers in main and use 4 liliana of the veils... on the play she is just money. I miss abrupt decay and will have to find room for one or two in the main. I will tighten things up and hope to report a better record next week.

Since the forum is quiet I decided to ramble on as Led Zeppelin would say...

I wanted to give a shout out to the Bw Tokens players... played my Rock deck against a BW Token Planeswalker deck and got crushed. The deck looked amazing. Just continued to apply pressure. I think it is positioed well, and I just may have to sleeve up a deck of my own.
