Okay, even I ( a glitch artist and fan of most of the NEO art revealed so far) think that The Modern Age is going to be painfully out of place in a game of M:TG.
Love the art, but it's going to cause some disconnect.
Yeah I agree, I think this particular one is in the extreme end though compared to the other modern stuff we've seen. Most of the other modern stuff isn't nearly as "TRON" as this hehe. But the Sagas have all been fairly unique compared to the normal cards and have been before in older sets, so I get they look a little different.
Wow, the first one looks amazing. It looks like "actual" artwork and not something from a game. It's kinda sad it'll be shrunk and put on a small card because that looks great!
Edit: I'm still kind of curious how the people that are fine with the DJ art would react to a card art featuring a weapon that is, in terms of outward appearance, a real-world glock, but shoots little fireballs instead of bullets ... and its user is wearing some big pauldron fantasy armor.
I look forward to seeing people argument for the Taylor Swift Legendary Creature card in a suit dual wielding glocks while driving a Tesla is in fact very Magic lol
I think it's pretty much all some form of extravagant decoration.
But we see the exoskeleton is on the turntable, so it's doing.....something, but it's super unclear as to why which at that point just makes this a case of "just throw some tech in the art, who cares?"
The worst bit is the rope work holding it together... That just screams somebody said "It's high tech, but still samurai look!" at a board meeting. It's so dumb. Seriously some of the worst/dumbest art I've seen in Magic ever.
But it's just one card, and they do make tons of other amazing looking cards.
Magic's story is mediocre fan fic tier at best.
But it's fun getting a couple of boosters and playing limited with your friends
