Dreadbore over terminate goes without saying at this point. It was already close as dreadbore helps against tron, BGx, and Chandra. Now its a great 1 maybe even 2 of maindeck. Also 4 thoughtseize before ANY iok. Burn may tick up a bit, so keep that in mind though.

Does this kill Grixis Death Shadow now? I can't see it doing well vs any Jace/Ux Control deck ever now.

It will make GDS weaker but will it kill it? We have to wait and see. I assume though that Traverse Shadow will be better option of the two from now on because it's faster and this is what you need against control if you play a Death's Shadow deck. You need to kill them fast (actually this was already the case now and it will be so much more important with Jace being part of Modern) because you can't win long game against them. Traverse Shadow does it better than GDS.

Maybe this will be claim/fame's time to shine seeing as it can give a goyf or deaths shadow haste out of nowhere.

Burn should make a pretty nice comeback on this news. Burn gives 0 *****s about Jace. I expect to see more swiftspears and young pyromancers around - going wide against Jace is pretty nice.

Zealous is a great SB card but its not worth maindecking in MOST metas. Maybe if you have tons of elves/affinity in your meta.

Losing probe makes it impossible for this to see play

Shocked they didn't unban at LEAST BBE. BBE is super safe... oh well.

Where are you guys at on the creature base? I'm not a huge fan of swiftspear. Is she necessary? What about some running 1-2 pack rat? It would let us discard late game land/dead draws and also discard souls.

Pack rat is too slow to be in a tier 1 deck in modern. Avoid it.

Swiftspear is super efficient. Its about playstyle. You want to be aggressive run 2-4, otherwise you will need to play a control game in SOME matchups.

https://imgur.com/a/mllQf For those asking about Deaths Shadow in this deck.

What do you guys think? Its mardu midrange with a DS twist. Lots of lifeloss, Super aggro, insane amount of removal, some recursion and value. Let me know. The only card i am questioning before I run this through its paces is Tidehollow sculler x2. The other options are

Abbott of Keral Keep (pretty good for Claim/fame)
Selfless Spirit(protect your DS from push and hits for 2 in the air)
Harsh Mentor (solid vs fetch decks, great vs affinity and lantern, meh against a decent number of decks)

The best in the set is probably the U +1/1 Curiosity that forces you to attack. Could be useful in a blue version of bogles.

Wow this may be one of the worst sets in a while outside standard. No standout cards. The best card might be a 4 mana 2/2 that brainstorms.

Every card thats 'good' in this set is GLACIALLY slow. Like 20 turn standard games to be any good slow. The flip cards are all super safe/slow.

Ascend is such a terrible mechanic. At least in execution. 6 Permanents but more reasonable effects would make these cards maybe playable outside standard. Is it stands theyre useless, control only standard cards. Just awful.

Lesson 1 of MTG. Good cards= Comes into play effects, effect the board right away.
Bad cards= cards that play into wraths, cards that require tons of cards to do anything.

Blood Sun turns off fetches? Card seems maindeckable in a Skred or similar 2 Color strategy. Really annoying card

Oppo-caster has graced us with its presence. Will it make the cut?

For reference, 2/1 First Strike Human Pirate for 1R, no flash, SnapCaster clause on opponent's graveyard while letting you pay for it with any color of mana.

Its bad outside the human deck. There maybe you could play it if you want, not sure it changes much though.

Its worse than abbott of keral keep, and that card sees no play right now. A large % of the time it has no target, is countered by the opponents snapcasters, and is sorcery speed.

Bad card. Requires you to jump through a ton of hoops for an effect that isn't even that good. Honestly i love the IDEA behind these flip cards, but the execution mostly sucks.

The only thing I don't get is why they didn't just give the original creature haste. This is potentially a very powerful card, but it can be dealt with. I think this is a great example of a playable mythic that isn't stupid overpowered.

playable in limited. Like every other phoenix they make, unplayable in constructed.
