Struggling against spirit that is getting more and more popular. Worship hard to manage and they win the race 75% of the time.
Will run 2 back to nature side instead of natural state. Also considering removing my Rhonas the Indomitable and put a World Breaker instead. It is a slow creature but castable turn 5 in most matches. This can fix worship problem and add blocker for flying. Anyone tried it already ???
This card is the REAL DEAL. 2 mana for a card that can continually sculpt our hand? Yes please. We don't even want it to flip, but once it does it can make a ton of thopters for you in a hurry. I will definitely be testing 1-2 copies of this.
I will test 2 copies as well but I am trying to figure out what should I remove for it ???? the deck is already so tight
Can we discuss the 5th place list running through the breach?
It's essentially the same Jeskai Tempo shell with an oops, I win button in place of quller/geist.
I think the 4 Opt are great here as you basically play from turn 3 on as a flash deck. The only issue I saw was Patrick having a hard time finding his second piece. It's not compact like Nahiri, so you essentially have 8 dead cards in your deck until at least turn 5. I guess the search for Azcanta helps.
I don't know. Thoughts?
I was surprised to see that he don't have any Stony Silence in SB. I am currently testing this version with my wife and I am about 50-50 against affinity. I will test it against eldrazi tron this week end.
I've been doing fairly well with this deck in local tournaments (4/0 regularly 40 personal FNMs, winning or splitting 60+ person events for a mox), online (always 3/2 and regularly 4/1 or 5/0 depending if I'm paired versus tron every league as seems to be habbit.
I still enjoy no prism, full combo, 2 or 3 tezz, and 1 bottled cloister.
Cloister has been absurd for me. It's phenomenal game 2 versus stony/aggro decks as a way to clear your hand from bridge and find green cards. Drawing 2 cards a turn is a great win condition to tutor up. The opposite is true for tezz recently. He feels slow and stuck in my hand early game causing me to still die with a bridge in play due to a slow hand, but turn 6 or 7 in top deck mode I start looking for one.
Padeem has also been an allstar post board (I dislike it main board due to wanting to make opponents removal dead game 1). She protects from noble hierarch and blanks a significant amount of sideboard cards from tier 1 decks.
I tried out the non combo version with big tezz/lilly/damnation and I felt it was terrible.
One of the main reasons I've been successful is being able to make choices and adjust my strategy to what my opponent is doing. This is why lantern is a very strong deck. It has the most choices.
The whirless version doesn't have that luxury. It just tries to top deck better than our opponent once a bridge is in play. The whirless version decks seem to only be doing well with a lot of luck. I can win with any deck if I'm lucky, but only certain configurations can win through proactive disruption, pressure and 3 sideboard cards (which I regularly do). Making choices with serum/bauble/whir/welding jar/spyglass/tezz make this version much better in my opinion.
Just my 2 cents. Feel free to try out that version of the deck, but I've found it to be a waste of time and a fluke for a single tournament.
Mr Meltiin, if you'are around, please speak up! ::)
So if anyone have some tips about how to play vs 8 rack and specially vs tron, you are more than welcome to post it
Tonight FNM result :
round 1) won 2-0 vs mono red control. First game he was on the play and managed to put a chandra turn one while I had pithing in my opening hand
round 2) won 2-0 vs ponza
Round 3) lost 2-0 vs burn
round 4) won 2-0 gren/white vizier combo
I am giving myself 2 months of practice and if things keep improving, I might try it at the nest GP in february
Look like tron is a hard matchup and MonoU tron almost impossible so I was thinking of adding 2 ceremonial rejection in sideboard. Anyone else tried it already and what would you replace for it ??
@bardils: I played 8rack for 2 years before switching over to tezzerator which I have been on since before Sword of the Meek unban. That being said I have a really good idea of how to navigate this match up and I think Tezzerator is heavily favored. Understanding 8 rack makes understanding the match up so much easier.
The Strategy: Don't. Play. Your. Cards. Seriously. It is that simple. To win the game you only need to play 4 lands and a Tezzeret. If they are on a version that is not main decking ensnaring bridge, 2 lands + Thopter foundry and any artifact are all you have to play (you can discard the sword for free). I mentioned in a post early given the decision to keep my combo, all my artifacts, lands or just Tezzeret off a Liliana ultimate, I took Tezzeret and won easily. Drawing an extra card a turn is not something they can beat. Post board you get to side out a ton of dead cards for literally anything and get better. If they are playing creature heavy versions with pack rat and mutavault it can be more challenging but you just keep your ensnaring bridges in that case.
If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to help.
GR or GB Tron is a nightmare, Eldrazi Tron is unvavorable, Blue Tron varies greatly on the composition of both decks but tends to be a 60-40 in trons favor. Other versions of tron still manage 1+1+1=7 so they are at best 45-55.
Strategy: Against GR tron your only hope is to Pithing Needle Expedition Maps and beat there face in with Tezzeret 5/5's before they get Tron online. I mulligan aggressively to hands that can do one of these things because I figure I am losing without them. Eldrazi Tron is easy besides the Karns and Walking Balistas. Try to needle these and combo them out or kill with a tezz ultimate before they can find a way through, Against blue Tron you bait their counter magic as many ways possible with hand disruption and Tezzerets. Once you stick a Thopter Foundry you are heavily favored to win.
My sideboard consists of an extra Pithing Needle specifically for Tron as well as Negates. Negate could be Ceremonious Rejections but I like Negate more in other match ups so I play it instead. Beating up their lands tends to be too slow of a strategy in Modern as of now.
If you catch Radouf's attention I know he spent some time testing the match up specifically and he may be of more help than me. But Tron is easily one of our worst match ups.
Thanks, this is really helpful information that I will try to apply tonight at the FNM. As for Blue Tron, problem is whatever the control you have on the table, they can bounce it back to your end when they are ready and go for a kill. I can't prevent that from happening overtime.
Hi am currently trying out this deck. Went 2-2 last FNM. Lost 2-1 agaisnt 8 rack, very hard matchup. Also lost against mono-U tron, this one is almost impossible.
Won 2-1 vs jund and 2-1 vs 5c human.
Will try it again next FNM but it is not that easy to pilot. Would be curious to have a chat with Mr Meltiin
