  • posted a message on Explosion for large X, who loses?
Explosion has been cast for some arbitrarily large value of X, with the damage being targeted to one player and the card draw targeted to the other player. Who loses? Certainly the player that suffered damage won't lose until the spell finishes resolving and the game checks for SBA's.

Is the loss for drawing from an empty library instantaneous or is that also an SBA?

  • posted a message on Can a spell have the same target twice?
I cast Fight with Fire kicked, targeting 5 damage to Lyra Dawnbringer and 5 damage to Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. My opponent responds by copying the spell with Expansion. Can my opponent do all 10 damage from the copy to me, by targeting me twice with the same spell?

Does anyone know when the list of PPTQs will be posted on the mothership? Have they sorted out everything related to the new changes in the Pro Tour structure?

  • posted a message on Trostani Discordant's last ability?
Trostani Discordant's last ability reads, "At the beginning of your end step, each player gains control of all creatures they own."

How does that work with cards like In Bolas's Clutches? Isn't In Bolas's Clutches a static ability that causes the creature to be always and constantly stolen?

Trostani's ability triggers at end step, the ability resolves, then the static ability of In Bolas's Clutches just re-steals the creature?

  • posted a message on Questions about Zahid's alternate cost
If Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp has been exiled by Rona, Disciple of Gix and I control Jhoira's Familiar, does that mean I can cast Zahid from exile for 2U and tap an untapped artifact I control?

Specifically, do the alternate casting cost and the discount of 1 less from Jhoira's Familiar both apply in this case, even though the spell is not being cast from hand?

  • posted a message on Planeswalker Points from last night?
Is anyone else not getting Planeswalker Points from FNM last night?

The event has been reported. Yesterday's store and date show up on my page. My opponent's names show up. My wins and losses show up. My final ranking in the tournament shows up. Everything is there, except the Planeswalker Points are 0...

  • posted a message on Torrential Gearhulk and split cards
My opponent has Commit // Memory in his graveyard. If Torrential Gearhulk enters the battlefield under his control, can he target Commit with the ability and then cast Memory without paying the mana cost. Memory is a sorcery and the trigger can only target instants.

If Cast Out exiles a card that I own, but my opponent controlled, what happens to the exiled card when Cast Out later leaves the battlefield?

  • posted a message on Sideboard notes
What's the best way for me to keep sideboard notes to refer to during the match, but in-between games, at Competitive and higher REL?

Would it be okay to keep the notes in my deckbox, even though I have reason to dig into my deckbox during games (for example: to get tokens, to get the City's Blessing, to retrieve real versions of double-faced cards when the checklist card is played)? Would there be any issues of people accusing me of referring to the notes while a game is in progress, just because I went into my deckbox to grab a token?

Would it be okay to keep the notes in my wallet? This would mean that I would have to take out my wallet while sideboarding...

  • posted a message on Nezahal's last ability
    Quote from WizardMN »
    3) If it is not exiled to its own ability, the rest of the ability won't be able to find it. You will not get it back in the case of Fairgrounds Warden.

What's the relevant rule here? I thought Exile was just one game zone and all cards in Exile are treated equally, regardless of how it got there. For example, can't I Pull from Eternity a card that's been exiled via Oblivion Ring without destroying the Oblivion Ring itself?

In my example, what happens with Nezahal's ability that is on the stack? Sure, the creature is gone by the time the ability resolves, but shouldn't the ability still resolve anyway? What stops the delayed trigger from being set up?

Also, I have another question. I guess it's sort of tangentially related to this one, so I'll ask it here...

In the Gatherer Rulings section of Tomb of the Dusk Rose, it says only cards that have been exiled by Profane Procession's ability that is printed on the card counts. If Profane Procession somehow manages to exile a creature some other way, then it's not eligible to be re-animated. Why is that? What's the rule here?

  • posted a message on Nezahal's last ability
I have three questions regarding Nezahal, Primal Tide's last ability.

    1. If this ability is activated during the End step, then when does the creature come back? The end of the next turn? But in every other circumstance, it comes back at the end of the current turn?

    2. Is this ability all one ability? For example, let's say I own and control this creature. Can my opponent allow the "exile" part of the ability to resolve but then somehow counter the "return it to the battlefield" part to make it gone for good? (As an aside, how does Kari Zev, Skyship Raider's ability work? Is it possible to keep Ragavan permanently using a similar trick?)

    3. What happens if Nezahal is exiled some other way, with this ability still on the stack? For example, let's say I own and control this creature. In response to the ability being activated, my opponent somehow manages to Flash in Fairgrounds Warden to exile my Nezahal. Nezahal gets exiled by way of Fairgrounds Warden's ability rather than its own ability, but then what? Does Nezahal's ability still resolve anyway? Does this mean I still get Nezahal back at the end step?

  • posted a message on Gonti's exiled card & end of game
Does the player who leaves the game get all of the cards in his deck back in one pile? Or does the player get his cards back with the right to know "this specific card was exiled, and these remaining 59 cards are the rest of the deck"?

My opponent controlled Gonti and I owned the card exiled by Gonti. After the game was over, my opponent physically picked up half of the cards in my deck, put the exiled card back into my deck, then placed the lifted cards back on my desk as to conceal the choice he made. What tournament rules, if any, has he broken?

  • posted a message on Gonti's exiled card & end of game
What happens to the card that is exiled by Gonti, Lord of Luxury's ability after the game ends. Specifically, does the player who owns that card get to learn what the chosen card was or does it get shuffled back in without knowing?

I lost in the semifinals of a PPTQ with this list. No Censor anywhere in the 75.

What is your opinion of no censor?

I'm okay with it. The decision to go no Censor was not a card-availability issue, but was rather an intentional choice. That having been said, I'm pretty new to Magic and I'm willing to accept the possibility that I'm wrong.

I think that Censor existing in the metagame is enough. I think the threat of Censor is just as good as actually having Censor. And I don't think that actually having Censor is worth a full card. If my opponents knew there was no Censor in my list at all, that's a different story.

I beat mono-red in the quarterfinals, but lost to mono-red in the semifinals. Won Game 1 of the semifinals, but ultimately lost Games 2 and 3.

In Game 3, I made Authority on turn 1 and again on turn 2 but ended up losing to the Chandra emblem.
