I don't think the one showing of the list means that we're positioned well but I don't mind more midrange running around. With that I think the list is nice, it's not trying to be cute it's just trying to kill people. Which is nice and I will be adjusting mine to help with that. With other thoughts about it I don't know about Fiery Justice but it may replace Ghostly Prison for my way to deal with creatures. One of the the things I've been wanting to test for a while now is Leylines of Sancity in the main, with burn being well positioned against Jace decks I expect a rise in burn which at least for me seems to be he hardest matchup. So with hand hate being as good as always I can't help but think that it's great for us to play Leylines in the main. I will be talking about this after testing but if anyone has tested I would love to hear about it. Finally am I the only person who likes Dismember or should I be playing better cards?
Edit: In addition to above what's people's thoughts on 3 vs 4 Restore Balances?
Leyline in the main has been great in my build.
Everytime I have one in my opener it's pretty much a snap keep against a large majority of decks since it blanks so much of what they can do.
Also, a lot of the time in those matchups, winning game 1 is key so that even if you lose game 2, you still get to be on the play for game 3.
It's possible no one here would be interested in something like this but nonetheless, I just set up a Discord for the pure convenience of being able to discuss the deck and what we're doing with it without having to be on the primer constantly.
If anyone is interested in joining it, here's the link https://discord.gg/JMHM5AX
Hope to see some of you there.
Hello! Would Narhiri's Wrath be any good? It can make both players dump their hands.
Also, Ghirapur Aether Grid? Seems like this would help in longer, grindier games. Also helps against enemy planeswalkers.
Also, why is Narhiri the main win con for this deck? It would seem March of the Machines is in many ways an insta win.
Sorry for barging in. Just some thoughts and questions
March of the Machines makes it so our borderposts can't be tapped for mana and also turns on our opponents creature removal in game 1. On top of this, after sideboarding, people bring in tons of artifact hate so that wincon becomes even less sustainable.
Ghirapur Aether Grid seems like a nice sideboard card to get around things in Ensnaring Bridge but relying on our artifacts (which people bring in lots of hate for, as I said before) to win is probably not the best idea but it could be worth testing out.
Well, now that Jace, the Mind Sculptor is unbanned, I've been doing some testing on Xmage against bots (since he isn't technically legal in Modern yet).
Here's the list I've been messing around with. For me, Jace, the Mind Sculptor takes the slot of Supreme Will since a repeatable Brainstorm and even a potential wincon for just 4 mana is objectively better than going four deep and only getting one card or possibly getting to counter something for 3.
I'm sure over time we'll be able to better figure out where exactly he slots into the deck, but for now, I think this is pretty good.
has anyone tried nevermore? feels like it'd be another good card vs a variety of things that are problematic, especially surgical or slaughter games.
i dislike the permanent aspect of such an answer, but i've struggled to find anything else that really stymies surgical
It really just feels a bit too slow.
Turn 3 is typically the turn we want to be trying to cascade into a RB so it's already kinda competing in that three drop slot.
Also, there's the fact that we'd want to have it down naming Surgical before we go to RB so getting off that cascade would likely be happening on turn 4 (which sometimes isn't enough).
Should we be playing Chalice of The Void in non-budget Restore Balance lists? It seems really good against Burn, targeted discard, and Surgical Extraction and doesn't hit anything in our deck.
It ruins any version with cascade, so no, we shouldn't be running it.
5 Color Humans is a nightmare match up for Restore Balance because of Meddling Mage. What do you all think about Dead//Gone? This card may have already been discussed but it seems like a very good sideboard card against humans. Does that make it worth playing since it could also be effective against aggro decks like burn or affinity?
Having a Shock-like card isn't too bad since it costs considerably less than Anger. It's certainly a consideration if your meta is absolutely full of that matchup.
I just might have to try it out in my Sideboard and see how well it works out.
I agree with @KillerTV, Demonic Dread is just a really bad card against so many decks.
In terms of color combinations, WURG seems to be where we really want to be for this deck.
I agree 100% with @jenncertainty on Nahiri.
We already have so many ways to slow down our opponent, instead, what we really need is a solid threat and Nahiri+Emrakul can be that.
I've been playing the deck for a bit and just recently found this primer so I figured I would post my list and see if anyone could give me some recommendations on how to improve it further.
I looked at @Timota's list and liked the idea of Odds // Ends in the sideboard and Thassa in the main.
Odds seems especially spicy against Storm if you happen to flip tails.
We've had a Discord for awhile now.

Why not just play 3 Beast Within?

Pretty much everyone has cut black at this point and for the people that aren't running black, a free cycler really isn't worth the slots.
