It might just be a byproduct of the design of the token that it has the mana cost line at the bottom. It could just be something as simple as "Offspring: When this creature dies, create a copy of it, except that creature has base power and toughness 1/1." Not necessarily something you cast.

Maybe something similar but it's not very evocative of cutesy animals though. Creatures dying is more nefarious, more zombie making in nature. Maybe it's like a storm variant like whenever you cast a creature spell you may copy this creature. I really like the idea of the Garth ability though. I think it's a way that they may be able to get some reserved list cards playable without actually going against the reserved list.
so that means any of these could easily be reprints in "Deadly Disguise" precon because they just have to add the words on the new cards like "Whenever a creature/permanent you control face up" or however they word "face down" support
My guess is it will be cheaper and instead of being a 2/2 colorless creature it will be a 1/1 green and white citizen. And if your right I'm glad I got my skirk alarmist when I made my Missy deck.

Once up on a time, I did have a janky URW energy deck which could make infinite thopters. Janky because it required too many pieces, but even with only one each of Decoction Module and Panharmonicon the Whirler Virtuoso would make 8E and then thopters cost only E (well, they cost EEE but then you got EE back).

Maro has always been tricky with his his answers. He says
1) no planeswalkers
2) no battles)
3) no new types
he very specifically does not rule out Tribal, and I think he has said it's not impossible to see it in a Horizons set in particular, and this goes right into Modern. he has talked a few times about the difficulty of legendary instants and sorceries. I could see a legendary Tribal card. something tied to ents or such.
I'm not saying it's super likely, just that it's no less likely than the other two, and his wording seems to be very careful
Since the teasers say "a lot of one-of “creature type matters” cards", I would infer there will be several of them.
Galadrial seems to be elf tribal, Sauron may be orcs, Eowyn may be humans, etc....
Goblin ringleader or other cycles wouldn't be unusual either, neither would a Kindred Summons spell for specific creature types.

I don't think we will necessarily get any goblin reprints. Goblin is mostly used in the Hobbit novel and was mostly used when the Hobbit wasn't connected to the rest of the legendarium and I think most other uses of the term goblin is meant to talk about a smaller bread of Orc IIRC so my point is that if there are goblins it should probably be goblin orc.
Not to muddle the wraith argument too much but aren’t the specters the riders and the beast combined in the same way an archon is the rider and the beast? I think it’d make more sense for the wraith argument since the Ringwraiths are cognitively separate from their foul beasts.

I have a feeling that Teferi is going to be the last walker in the set unless there are duo walkers. I think even Quint is most likely getting his first planeswalker card in the Ixalan set and not in this set.
I’m willing to bet these are UB because these D&D character cards resemble the actors in the movie

I think they could just illustrate them to make them look less like the actors. They do own the characters themselves just not the likenesses amd that's if it wasn't a part of some kind of deal with the actors.
I really like them Edgin, Zenk and Simon look the most fun to me. My only nitpick is I wish that beyond Simon there was more to connect them to the two dungeons and dragons sets. Like one caring about dungeons, adventures, maybe having choose a background.
Modern is healthy. As in. healthy for Wizards profit since every competitive deck needs to put down tons of cash to buy the newly expensive cards from the latest modern-specific set. IOW, the for,mat works as planned as a money cow. We don't actually care if players stopped playing a format they had dozens of decks which we made obsolete by printing OP cards or banning their key cards in the past even though new cards are more powerful. Yeah, meaning Ragavan, Urza, pitch-card creatures existence does not mean Deathrite, birthing pod or twin are coming back. Pay up or shut up.
This is why I expect LotR to basically be Modern Horizons 3, so far every straight to Modern set has more or less flipped the format on its head and I'm expecting it to happen here too.
Based on the cards that got leaked and the fact it's Alchemy legal, I have my doubts that it's at Modern Horizons power level.
There’s a good chance that all of the leaked cards are promos though. Frodo is for sure a bundle promo. I do think that’s the level is going to be high but maybe not modern horizons level of high.
I hope that planar travel for nonwalkers pans out so Fblthp can truly become the Wally of MtG.
I’m not sure how much travel there will be I thought that the team up cards would at least be more of a mix and match kinda thing but so far they’re just pairs from the same plane hopefully they’ll do more mix characters that we haven’t seen.
