I made the same choice with Teneb. Since you're in green, you have better ramp spells even though they may not be as explosive as turn 1 sol ring. But you're not stupid. Maybe people have cut it.

There is no green ramp spell as good as sol ring though, afaik. If you know of a green ramp spell that lets you hit 4 mana on turn two then I want to know about it so I can play it.

Rofellos is about as powerful as sol ring (maybe a little bit more) but that is the only "ramp" card I think is comparable and. At least it can be killed easier.

Sorry to be blunt but, yes you should feel stupid for cutting Sol Ring from any edh deck. (if your intention is to win, which it should be since this is a game)

Sol Ring is overpowered, it should obviously be banned, but until that happens there is no reason at all for any edh deck to be built without Sol Ring.

I'm attacking the creatureless BU guy who's screwing around....

OP, the point is that a T1SR should not mean you're screwed unless you're playing poor players. You'll take some hits, but the game will not be over for you.

On the contrary, I've found that as my playgroup has evolved/grown over the years a lot of us that have played the longest are turning more and more against Sol Ring. The edh deck that I'm working on now is going to be an anti-Sol Ring theme deck running douche cards like Mental Misstep/etc.

    I agree with you OP.

I don't see any problem with an opponent playing some big threats and following it with an Armageddon. The only problem with mass land destruction is when some jackass thinks they are funny by just stalling a game by casting it into an empty board. As long as the game is going to end quickly I think land destruction is completely acceptable, it should be played even more honestly because it is one of the only ways to keep ridiculous mono green decks in check.

This is sorcery speed conditional removal. I don't think that it is even remotely playable unless it directly combos with your general but off the top of my head I'm not sure which general would really benefit from being dealt damage. That's the only place you'd consider using this and as everyone above me has said, Tracker is probably better than this even in that case.

  • posted a message on Is the Color Identity Definition Too Rigid?
    No.

Once they changed it to allow Bosh, Rhys, Thelon of Havenwood, etc to be used as they obviously were intended I think the color identity rule was perfected.

I play it in my colorless deck and it's pretty good there. It is like one of the Seals because it keeps people from attacking you and it is artifact creature removal.

I doubt I would use it in a colored deck except maybe with Trinket Mage in a very artifact-heavy deck. Every color probably has much better removal than this though.

Wrecking Ogre is the only really good one in my experience. I run him and Pyrewild Shaman in a Glint-Eye Nephilim deck and even though the Shaman seems perfect there his abilities just cost way too much mana and he isn't very good.

Wrecking Ogre on the other hand gives a lot more damage and though 5 mana is a lot the ability is it least difficult to counter. Pure pump instants really dramatically outclass all of the other bloodrush creatures and none of them are worth casting as creatures in edh.

    Quote from Palnar
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pyrewild Shaman yet. I find it can be pretty good because it's potentially reuseable. It doesn't feel like such card disadvantage since you can keep getting it back. I run it in my very aggressive Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch deck with success.

It is not card disadvantage but it's a crapload of mana for a slow-as-molasses effect. Even when I use it as a 5 mana ability to deal 3 damage and draw 3 cards it isn't worth it imo. The card will get cut if I look for a replacement.

  • posted a message on [[SCD]] Where does Tamiyo fit?
IMO she is by far one of the best planeswalkers in a multiplayer game.

Most planewalkers are terrible in edh but Tamiyo actually flourishes because her abilities have so much impact. Especially if you are playing against someone with a lot of creatures (it happens way more often in multiplayer) she can be a great draw spell. Chandra the Firebrand is probably the only other planewalker on her level in edh, with jtms and I guess sorin coming up with honorable mentions.

  • posted a message on Why Does WotC Not Include Very Powerful and/or Useful Dual Lands in "Special Sets?"
    $$$$$$$$$

They know you want dual lands. They know you will open packs/spend money on mtg in general to get dual lands.

They would be fools to sell you the cards for a price lower than what you'd be willing to pay.

  • posted a message on ANT vs TES. Which do you prefer?
    Quote from Umezete
I see this argument all the time and never understand it, both decks play linear if you are using that definition of linear, play 10 spells and storm then gg. Also saying tes having access to all 5 colors allow it to play more answers and play reactively is strait false, any tournament decklist would show you overall ANT has more answers both md and sb and although most ant lists cut burning wish still has better access to these answers as well. This is due to the fact that instead of using its flex slots on more fast mana ant uses it on deck manipulation and a couple more answers md than tes does. This makes a deck that is on average a bit slower (though we are talking by like a turn tops) but with a much stronger lategame against every deck in the format.

Everytime I hear this argument you make I can't help but to think the person who said that simply doesn't play Ant enough. If you don't see the lines of play of COURSE its going to seem like a more simplistic version of TES. To me TES is the much more simplistic deck but then again I played both for a little and went with ant so pretty much all my storm experiences is with the nuances of ant. Since that is true I know the lines of play far better in ant and thus my personal bias says ant is the deck with more lines of play.

Also ANT has put forward much stronger results recently than tes and is probably the far better metagamed deck atm.

I'm not at all trying to say which is better in my post. I do think ANT is the more streamlined and linear deck though.

TES usually can win with 1 of 3 different storm spells, which ANT does not always play. That's one way that is is less linear, you have to decide which win condition you will have to use. It also plays Burning Wish which provides tons of choices that you don't have to consider in a simpler UB ANT list.

If you play multiplayer games with other knowledgeable people then you will be able to learn about lots of rules because they will come up in play.

I definitely don't think you need to use modo to get a good understanding of the rules like some people are suggesting. I'm sure you will pick it up if you pay attention and ask questions whenever you encounter a situation where you're not sure what happens.

TES is a LOT more fun imo. It has more options so when you play it there are more decisions to be made and with Burning Wish and 5 colors I think that it can play more answers and can play reactively. ANT is much more linear but it's still strong, the decisions are often simpler though because the deck is more focused on a single win condition.

TES is also much harder to play though. It's hard to determine which is more powerful but both are good competitive decks.

Then i searched for any other card that could be useful and i found Reality Spasm, which is basically an istant version of Candelabra of Tawnos. What do you think? Could one or two of this fit in?

It has the added functionality of tapping down opponents' stuff but for ramping yourself and getting mana I'm sure that Turnabout and Reset are much better.

I disagree. My Yeva deck is more of a draw go strategy so letting my opponents board set up then wiping is what I would like to do when things get out of hand. Plus, I like having an emergency button in my deck if need be for example if an opponent resolves a genesis wave or an opposing avenger for something. And in that scenario, the Disk is horrible. That's why I made the thread to see if people liked the swap and so far, it looks like a go.

Yeva is one of the most "drop your entire deck into play" generals around though. I have a Yeva deck myself and I think it is very strong, even by mono-green's brain dead standards.

With the flash ability this General is very good at surviving wraths in various ways. Not every deck is a control deck and board sweepers are not only an inelegant solution; they are also not a very efficient one.

I don't know what your deck looks like but since it is a Yeva deck my advice is to just not sweep. Broken OP cards like Cloudstone Curio can give you almost complete invincibility against wraths and creatures like Champion of Lambholt (or others) allow you to win regardless of opponents' creatures in play. Playing our own wraths in a mono green creature deck is going take time away from the important goals of growth and damage while slowing us down even more if we do have creatures in play.

Mono green is also incapable of any reasonable way to tutor for sorceries such as All if Dust that are presumably included in the deck as answers (an emergency button). If answer cards like Champion, Timbermare, Terastodon, Woodfall Primus, etc are included in the deck then we not only gain awesome bodies that will kill people and abuse our general but we also have various ways to find them (GSZ, Survival, whatever you play) when we really need them. A singleton sorcery answer is just not going to do much in the huge majority of games if it is a spell that we only want to cast when the opponent has a big board and we have none. I don't think that situation is realistically common and regardless it isn't addressed by a sorcery spell.
