Dusque posted a message on Innistrad midnight hunt sneak previews tomorrowI'm looking forward to messing with Jumpstart Horizons on Arena but I didn't really consider it a real set to be excited for spoilers in a way that would make this less exciting for me. Like...Arena is a fun way to mess around for sealed and draft, and I halfheartedly play Brawl, but I'd never take it seriously enough to let it overshadow real magic lol. I've enjoyed a lot of new cards from this year, but Innistradx2 were the only sets I was actively excited about.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Edit: I guess my point is, this is actually exciting news to me, and I won't let it be dampened by the rest of the mtg stuff going on like the rest of you have -

I love innistrad. I love werewolves, zombies, vampires. Gothic horror. Eldritch horror. Everything.
Yet...
Im just not. I just do not care any more.
We barely digested strixhaven before mh2, then forgotten realms shortly after that. Its difficult to care any more at all. It use to be overwhelming, it use to be frustrating, and now... now it just... i dont care.
Theres no time to enjoy anything any more. No time to acquire new cards. No time to test them. Cant even remember half of them any more. We get a week or two to draft and we're already on to the next thing, and the next, and the next.
And i just... i dont care any more.
I know im not alone. -

JasonJustis posted a message on MDFC are gonna show up in kaldheim and strixhavenI may be in the minority here, but I can't stand using DFCs, at all. I hate having to take them in and out of sleeves over and over, and I hate having to use checklist cards as almost a required resource to bring with you to games where your deck needs them. They are a pain to double sleeve in decks that you want to double sleeve, and anyone who has a cube that's double sleeved knows how annoying it is adding new cards to your cube that they are all airy and puffy and stand out in a deck unless you take the appropriate actions to squeeze the air out.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
DFCs can go die in a fire. -

mikeyG posted a message on MDFC are gonna show up in kaldheim and strixhavenWell *****. I really despise this mechanic, not for any specific power issues, I just find it exceptionally clunky and frustrating to play with. I also don't own sleeves and to a degree resent needed to invest in them (or some other method of making DFCs workable physically) to make a mechanic work. I have never once played with a DFC and I'm not going to start this year.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
I'll say that the flavor of DFCs can be amazing, though I tend to picture Innistrad DFCs when I think of flavor masterpieces than these MDFCs from Zendikar. The Zendikar flavor seems to be crossroads of sorts, you get a land or a representation of hazards on that land. It's cute, but I don't think as evocative as Innistrad's transformation flavor that could be applied in different ways to evoke different horror tropes. Maybe they'll mix it up in coming sets. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

If they pared it down to one set, many of those mechanics could be jettisoned for only the most effective ones. Maybe even seed it with some new cards that fit the mechanics.
Never say never with these clowns.

Freak of the deck, magus of the sheets.

Can't stop singing it. You had me until the last bit.
But I'd still rather just play middle school.

Urza's Saga and it's block wrecked power levels. Memory Jar was banned from almost the moment it was printed.
Mirrodin was also wild times with a whole bunch of cards being banned.
The Stoneblade days of standard were miserable.
This past year or two have been almost as bad, but at least there's some competitors out there. I'm not gonna say it's not bad, but we've seen Wizard's bring the game back from the brink before (in both directions- remember Fallen Empires and Homelands?) and I have faith they'll do it again.

Ok... but... hear me out- You don't HAVE to buy everything. This year, yeah, there's been a lot of product, but SO MANY reprints. Maybe I suck at EDH, but my best decks haven't changed in a WHILE - I don't feel the need to run out and get every new card that COULD fit in there. Legacy has stayed relatively similar, minus the normal shakeups from expansions, and the rest of the formats don't have any added stress due to products like Jumpstart, because new cards aren't legal there.
So yeah, it's a lot of stuff. And while most of us are in this hobby because we are collectors, I think the hobby itself has gotten so big, it's time to stop trying to get 4 of every card ever printed as a default- I gave up buying new stuff that I don't need just to have it. My collection has thanked me and gotten a lot sexier, now that I can buy a $100 reserve list card instead of a box of Jumpstart- I just needed to reframe how I collect.
If you're like me and have been playing for a while it's easy to remember the days of Big-Small-Small-Core sets in one year which was a LOT easier to "collect em all!" than it is nowadays. (I remember when Coldsnap was an "extra set" in the year- it was AWESOME having an extra thing to buy in between expansions)
You can't blame Wizards and Hasbro for making products to sell- that's literally what they're here to do. It's almost like saying "Damn this restaurant for having so many tasty things on their menu! Making me fat because I have to order my 7 favorite meals! How am I to sustain this!?!?"
Take a deep breath guys, buy more singles, have more fun with boosters, and just enjoy the game- I'm just thankful they haven't ruined it (yet).
