Been using this deck a bit now the last week and watches hours of gameplay. I wish there was a way to splash black for [[winding constrictor]], [[syndicate trafficker]] or even [[Bontu the Glorified]]. Mostly just constrictor to get 8 cards that give us counter multipliers, as no scales really puts us behind. [[Arcbound Ravenger]] also could use some additional sacrifice outlets possibly. Think there is enough mana types out there to compliment the splash, but obviously takes away from the core theme.

    Hello all,

Agreed that aggro has always been the crux to this deck as it uses minimal lands to succeed. Mono Red was actually getting easier with things like Trinisphere, and life gain in the form of Primal Command, or even Thragtusk. Hollow One has really become a thorn in our side, and I even made a RG version which included Vengevine because Mono Green was not holding up lately on MTGO. That all being said, I think for Mono Green to succeed in the current meta, we would need to morph it into more of a Devotion type deck.

I am currently working on a deck that uses Ballista's, counters, and Rabid Bite. This theme compounded with life gain, should allow us time to get our some serious finishers.

Sorry, was not trying to get off this threads topic, but I think Mono Green can still prevail in the new meta world.. We just have to adapt!

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I am selling most of the starting deck list for Hollowvine. It does include some foils.

Why don't you just run Vengevine version of Hollow One then? It still uses Wraiths, but it definitely adds more explosiveness. This is my current list. Sorry I don't know how to link decks yet.

    Creatures 32ea
    x4 Hollow One
    x4 Vengevine
    x4 Flamewake Phoenix
    x4 Flameblade Adepts
x2 Bloodrage Brawler (great to discard Vengevine & then trigger him when he is the 2nd creature cast. Not to mention triggers Flamewake Phoenix)
    x4 Insolent Neonate
    x4 Burning-Tree Emissary (Quiet MVP)
    x4 Street Wraith
x2 Reckless Bushwhacker (Wish I could play more... Awesome combos with Burning-Tree alone)

    Spells 12ea
    x4 Goblin Lore
    x4 Faithless Looting
    x2 Lightning Axe
    x2 Lightning Bolt

Lands 16ea (Main list just needs Mountains, but the SB has a lot of Green, so duals, and fetches are needed)

Thanks for the reply. I actually have the Wraiths, but I don't like the idea of having them just for 4 cards in my deck, I'll be it the namesake. I have plenty of cards in the list that allow me to discard, and at minimal mana. Burning Inquiry to me is more important than Street Wraith to be honest. Again, that's just my play style as I am sure there is math out there to prove me wrong. Wraiths are really only good for Hollow Ones, and you could argue Adepts technically. I would much rather have a card that impacts more than 4 cards in my deck, and keeps me from spending 2 life too boot. Good luck with your tournament! At least we agree on the Contrictors! Just landed a foil playset for less than $3 I think, haha.

I really hope it could work, because I have all 3 as well. Supposedly they say there is not enough synergy between Phoenix, and Bloodghast not being able to activate Vengevine. As long as your list contains ample resources to activate Vengevine from the graveyard, I think it's a great idea. I have been using the following list with great success lately online. Sorry, I am a noob and don't know how to list decks. I am sure this get's ripped apart, but it's filled with synergy and fun to play.

    x4 Hollow One
    x4 Vengevine
    x2 Bloodghast
    x3 Flamewake Phoenix
    x4 Adepts
    x4 Burning-Tee Emissary
    x2 Bloodrage Brawler
    x3 Noose Contrictor
x3 Vexing Devils (this swaps back in forth with Lightning Bolts, but I like that this helps trigger Vengevine, and more often than not hits for 4dmg anyway)

    x4 Faithless Looting
    x4 Goblin Lore
    x4 Burning Inquiry
    x2 Lightning Axe

x17 Mana (still collecting, have Wooded Foothills right now)

I could be wrong, but if you are using Eternal Witness for mana dorks, you are in rough shape. They are the critical puzzle piece to keep our opponent on lock with Primal Command, or digging up a much needed LD spell.

As for your Raptor combo, it's a cool concept, but I think the core group here has attempted to go down those types of rabbit holes and always comeback to focusing on LD, and locking down our opponent. We want minimal, resilient, hard hitting creatures, that can finish a game for us. That being said the original concept did have a creature loop, so I could be wrong! Always awesome to keep thinking of ways to push this deck, so try out your theory, and let the group know your results.

Don't worry... Fatal Pushes will be used on our dorks first! Keeping on the hexproof theme (which I love, and is starting to pick up steam again in Modern it seems), would you be opposed to subbing out Llanowar for Sylvan Caryatid? I just hate how dork removal puts us so behind. Granted the wall is not as fast, but it does help with aggro, and won't get removed as easily. Arbor Elf is a necessary evil, and has to stay. Anything that gives us T2 LD is mandatory.

I have always liked the dedication to LD instead of adding more tactics such as bounce or too much ramp. That being said, I think going heavy creature in the deck can only help, and have been saying Courser is the perfect 3 mana for us. Sure it competes with Eternal Witness, but she does not usually play turn 3 most times anyway. Thrun is my favorite green card, so I would actually play him over Tireless Tracker. I think with this deck it's massively important to have resilient creatures, and Thrun is the best it gets. I think I will try your deck list, but take out the Finks, TT, and Nissa VoZ, and add play 3 Coursers, 2 Thrun, and continue to play Nissa Vital Force instead. Another card that would thrive with this list is Dungrove Elder. I could easily sub out a Courser for 1ea.

Aye, I have all those cards in my inventory. I appreciate the help though! I am just mad because I almost pulled the trigger on a Tyrant but did not when he was around $10. He is easily the best card out of those.. I will keep using Hornet Queen in paper until I get him I think. If I keep hearing good things about him though it may be sooner than later!

Landed 2 Trinispheres for a decent price finally.. I am excited about that.

Nissa has been a powerhouse for me, and I have never taken her out of my lineup. Just a good compliment to what we are already trying to accomplish. I am 100% in on trying to disrupt early and often, and have been saying that throughout my posts.

I will take your advice on the Coursers, but I think you really need to try and add in Voyaging Satyrs (I really need to learn how to link cards). I tried them last night, and its so powerful to have early, untapping elements in this deck. I will keep in at least x2 of these, and prob bring Tribe Elders back into the deck with more LD.

I have been following the price of Carnage Tyrants for the last month because I really want to have just 1 or 2 finishers in this deck (actually, just 1 or 2 non mana producing creatures even). It just keeps going up in price... Not sure if I should just pull the trigger.

This post 100%. I had mentioned earlier I think the only time we truly are in the driver seat is when we are landing LD early and often. I like this deck list a lot (I especially like that Nissa, Vital Force has found a home for you too), but I would remove Tribe Elders, LLanowar Elves, and even the Wildebeasts. With your list that would give us 7 cards to add to main, in which case I would sub in the following.

    2x Voyaging Satyr
    2x Coursers
2x Mana (optional, but I like at least 22 when I am playing less dorks)
    1x LD of your choice

All of the substitute cards mentioned fall in line with your train of thought I think.

*Voyaging Satyr - 2 man Arbor elf yes, but 2 defense, and improves our chance of untapping lands which is huge for us to get our PC lock in place. Having 2 creatures out there that can untap has helped me win games at least. I love Explore here in the 2 mana spot, but I would rather have a chump block, and untap, vs. draw a card I think.

*Courser - has not tested amazing for me, but its starting to with a list like this. He is solid against removal (no fatal push, no bolt), aggro (4 defense), life gain, and thins our deck with lands.

I have even messed around adding one Craterhoof Behemoth, and I have to say it has done work.. I guess anything around that casting cost for us as green will be devastating if cast (Hornet Queen for example).

Just my 2 cents anyway.. Glad to hear you had a better go your last tournament.

Mana ramp and how to do it is the crux of this deck for sure. Everytime I think I have it down, I play a couple games and it gets me frustrated again. If we use dorks, they get bolted, if I use walls that generate mana for ramp, it gets too slow. I have even tried using stone rains because they are easily cast with birds, or utopia sprawl.

The only thing I do know is that getting a LD card out turn 2 is the only way I am usually in the lead. Aggro is such a thing right now, that we are dead in the water by turn 3, at least mana base wise.

Just frustrated with the deck right now is all...

I was the one that has had huge success with Nissa, Vital Force. Sure you don't untap as many lands, but you do get haste 5/5 creatures (or just use that untapped land as mana), OR you can Eternal Witness.. I have not used her for the drawing cards with lands yet to be honest. If she cost 4 mana, she would be an auto include for me.
