Wizards never said that mythics were going to be tournament cards. I really doubt this card is going to be the "big money" rare for tournaments until maybe after Lor/Shw rotates and even then there's probably someone arguing about how this card isn't going to cut it. It's just a meh card. Sure it looks nice in theory but its jsut so boring to see. I'm trying my best to use the stupid "dies to everything" argument but I just keep seeing this card as soemthing that is better than Warmonk because of the fact it survives Plumviel and I think it's a nice finisher for 5CC alongside Broodmate Dragon.
Sooo...are you saying it's bad or good? Because you're saying it's meh, but also saying it's better than Warmonk and is nice for 5CC. I know Wizards didn't say Mythics were going to be tournament cards. They actually said Mythics won't be "a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards".
Sure, this card dies to removal, but it dies to removal efficiently...uh, wait. What I mean is, this card is a threat on turn 2. It will force your opponent to waste removal on it right off, which is good. Which is why (speaking to iRebel), I will definitely run 4 of this guy.
I still am of the opinion that this is a very good card and that it will be used, and thanks to it being mythic rare, it will be expensive. I hate that rarity.
Wait, just realized that the angel is Mythic. FAIL. Come on, Wizards. You -know- this is going to be a tournament-calibur card. I thought Mythics weren't suppose to be that kind of card, aside from planeswalkers. This thing is going to be expensive.
All I can say is WOW and WOW. First off, I looooooove the efficient angel. 3/3 flier that comes down on turn 2 and gets bigger and bigger at each of your opponent's endphases? I'll take 4 for my bant deck, please!
Defilier of Souls is less exciting for me, but still, I really like it. He's a big flier for a decent cost, and I love his monocolor hate. I'm not sure how relevant it will be in T2, but fun for casual at the very least. Everyone is going to hate me in multiplayer when I drop this.
I still don't think Transmuter is good outside of casual. In T2 right now, I think it's just too slow. The only thing you can really do with it is put fatties in play, and that still suffers from the Elvish Piper syndrome in that, to make use of its' ability, you need a deck full of artifact fatties, which isn't a good idea. Outside of T2, there are better things you can do with artifacts.
But that's the last thing I'm going to say on the matter. Afterall, this thread isn't about Master Transmuter. It's about Akroma Sphinx.
I am interested to see what other artifact stuff we'll get in ARB. Still hoping for some good, lowcost creatures.
Perhaps you should try swapping out 4 forests for 4x mosswort bridge? You can use that with Garruk's tokens to cast a free Time Stretch, Evacuation or whatever.
Why is everyone talking like Master Transmuter is a good card? It's just a bad Elvish Piper for artifacts. It just sets your opponent up for scoring an easy 2 for 1 when you bounce an artifact, put Akroma Sphinx into play, and then they PtE/O. Ring/whatever it.
Sphinx of the Steel Wind is good. It's mana cost isn't. If I were going to build a fancy deck just to cheat a big fatty into play, I'd just use Inkwell Leviathan. Nothing is killing that guy, outside of Wrath. I agree with everyone else. For competitive play, if there were better artifact tricks (Not Master Transmuter and Etherium Sculpter), then maybe....but as of right now, I don't really see this card being big outside of casual play. Like everyone else, I'm of the opinion that the lack of haste+the high mana cost makes it too easy to deal with. If it DOES swing, sure, it might turn the game in your favor. The trick is, getting it in play and getting it to swing before it's too late.
I'm very, very sorry if this has already been asked. I looked over the thread and didn't see it (I'm sleepy, so maybe I missed it). In this format, is damage via generals the only way to win? What about alt. win cards like test of endurance and Mortal Combat? I am assuming these work since Coalition Victory is banned. But if that's the case, why is Victory banned and the rest aren't? Is it just too easy to win with Coalition Victory in this format?
Not too excited about this one. I mean, sure, it's good if you get it in play, but why are all of the artifact creatures with good effects turning out to just be fatty bombs? Can't we get some more good, low cc creatures like Master of Etherium? I mean, you already have Inkwell Leviathan, Sharuum the Hegemon, Sphinx Sovereign and a few others that aren't worth mentioning. Oh well, I'm sure there will be other interesting things in this set. I just hope there are some more good, efficient Artifact creatures. My deck definitely needs them.
Yeah, not gonna lie, that's some pretty unimaginative art there.
Oh, no no, that's not what I meant. I have major arachnophobia, especially when it comes to brown recluse spiders, which is what this thing looks similar to.
I do like how it has forest and plainscycling, though.
I'm not seeing nonblack. It looks like the most visible word in the textbox of Throctar either begins with p, q, j, y or g and ends with l, d, k or i. I've considered the following:
graveyard
deathtouch
damage
discard
destroy
creature
cascade
played
player
artifact
nonblack
your hand
Deathbringer
Throctar
It doesn't seem to be any of these. I really can't figure out what it is.
As an additional cost to playing Breath of Malfegor, discard X cards from your hand. Each player sacrifices a creature for each card discarded this way.
Sort of like Sickening Dreams. I'd love to have something like this, as I'm going to make a casual RBG Dragon reanimator deck after this set is released.

"You may pay 1 and return an untapped land you control to owner's hand instead of paying this card's mana cost."
I see "you may pay 1 and..." "land you..." for sure.
