Interesting that you find it better than Magma Jet - I think that's one of red's best burn spells!

2 mana for 2 damage was just too inefficient, and the scry wasn't especially useful on a card that was usually cast on the exact turn you won the game. Our format is pretty fast, so being able to deliver as much damage as fast as possible is really valuable under the condition that the card isn't unplayably bad outside of red aggro (with the obvious exception of Fireblast, shrine of burning rage and Sulfuric Vortex, because they're just too efficient and vital to red's ability to close out games quickly to exclude, at least in our cube).

I really hope they print more shocks with upside. 2 damage is a pretty solid baseline as long as it has some extra lategame value strapped onto it somewhere, and wizards obviously doesn't ever want to print anymore good 1 mana 3 damage spells, so I think its the best we can expect to see going forward.

It's definitely the worst burn spell we play at 360 powered, but good burn is hard to come by and we've found char to be better than the Incinerate variants, Staggershock, magma jet, Arc Lightning variants, Collective Defiance and Stoke the flames. The fact that it offers 4 splashable instant speed damage in just one card makes it good enough for both red aggro mainboards and other red deck's sideboards to bring in vs 4 health creatures and planeswalkers.

With that said, we still haven't tried forked bolt or risk factor in cube, but I have played the latter in standard to great results so maybe its worth a shot but then again maybe its just too clunky. I wish the burn was better, and not a day goes by that I don't think about taking it out for fire // ice and just hoping nobody notices that the cube now has an extra blue card, and a powerful one at that.

Idk but this card looks pretty bad to me. Just super slow to get online, and a 4/4 with flash for 4 is well below par with other 4 drops.

Just cubed today and this card got played in a BU Aggro deck. Only had time for 2 rounds, but this card singlehandedly won the first round VS artifact ramp by surviving wildfire and just being a super fast clock, and it was great alongside Phantasmal Image and Pack Rat. Round 2 was against WB aggro with Bitterblossom, Lingering Souls, some single target removal, and two token producing planeswalkers. Needless to say, I boarded it out game 2 but I ultimately still won with the help of Smuggler's Copter and Pack Rat. Not sure where that leaves this card, but it felt really strong and incredibly difficult to deal with efficiently, as it lets your wide strategy go tall at the same time. I'd give it a spin if you're on the fence.

I’m salivating thinking about T1 Ritual into this guy, or T1 elves into him on T2. I can’t wait to play this guy. Plays around Wildfire super well and just beats face.

Been super intrigued with trying this card after it’s incredible performance in standard and it’s only $5. I don’t like 7cmc karn as it costs too much mana to cast outside of dedicated ramp decks, but 6cmc is that sweet spot where both control and ramp can capitalize on the value. Definitely am going to try this guy out, maybe instead of Sensei’s Top?

Cool card, but definitely won’t fit into my cube. Just too slow and resource intensive to get value out of it. To be fair I play 360 powered so most things don’t make the cut, but even at larger sizes is this playable if you don’t run a strong tokens subtheme? Because the proliferate and stat line don’t seem great. Maybe id run this at 540.

Snow lands are cool, and me and my playgroup will definitely be playing this and the new manland. we have snow lands, but you can just treat your basics as snow lands if you don’t want to buy them. Super happy about having a colorless beater for all theaters of aggro decks. I think I’ll play this over Lodestone.

I'm sold on this card at 360. Looks like a stone-cold staple at first glace. Will definitely look forward to playing one of these.

360 Powered, just slotting in Blast Zone and Finale of Devastation. Blast zone looks like a staple, and Finale looks great too. Not sure what to cut yet, but for green I'm guessing Oracle of Mul Daya is getting the boot and for colorless Coercive Portal is possibly getting dropped (although Portal has been super good for us, there are just so few other cuts). Thoughts?

I already play pack rat (as anyone should), but I always feel like there are not enough discard outlets. Has Heir been good enough for you guys?

Hey I'm considering cutting Heir of Falkenrath because only ever being able to discard once often isn't enough. What are some other black, repeatable discard outlets for reanimator? We already play the Prowler and at 360, and I feel like I want one more repeatable black discard outlet. Have people tried Cryptbreaker, Putrid Imp, Olivia's Dragoon, or raven's crime? Or is it better to just stick with the Heir for its mediocre ability to be played in aggro?

  • posted a message on Your suggestions for a Modern Iconic Cube?
Just saw this, and that seems like a cool idea. But before i go dishing out my own personal opinions and advice, I don't think I understand the premise in its entirety. Is the idea to play famous and powerful cards from the modern format (like the poster above me seems to think), or to play only the best cards from each individual limited format (so realistically just commons and uncommons because rares and mythics don't define a draft format)? I can help with either, but I'd just need to know which you want beforehand. I'm assuming the latter as it makes much more sense in the context of your post, but I just don't want to type out a huge post without being 100% sure what you're looking for specifically.

  • posted a message on Red 4 Drops And A General Discussion About Curating Curve vs. Power Level
I play 6 red 4 drops at 360, and I don't personally think playing any more would be correct. Red aggro hardly ever reaches 4 mana, so the payoffs have to either be absurd or be usable in other strategies to good effect. We currently play (in order from best to worst):
    Sneak Attack
    Fiery Confluence
    Chandra, Torch of Defiance
    Experimental Frenzy
    Hellrider
    Pia and Kiran Nalaar

Not much to say in regards to the op, but honestly after the first 3 cards you could probably get away with not playing any more red 4s if you wanted, they're good but certainly not remotely as good as the first ones and don't typically warrant splashes.
