Is it really? I could be super far off here, but you sound bitter.

How on earth can a jace, and ugin for market value be hot garbage. Especially since you get 6 other walkers who retail at roughly another 100 usd and 24 sealed packs to draft or open.

    Enlighten me mr/mrs sour grapes
Because, despite some execution flaws, I actually liked the old Masterpiece system. I personally watched multiple young players open Kaladesh Masterpieces at the prerelease and it was obviously the highlight of their day. That's important. The old system catered to everyone, anyone had a chance to own one, and most importantly it actually encouraged players to go out to FNM and actually participate in tournaments because of the potential to get a sweet ass card.

As mentioned above, the Mythic Edition caters solely to A) investors/scalpers or B) players with a large amount of disposable income. It's simply not the same, and in my opinion is far, far worse. Not to mention that WotC is marking the ***** up out of it. They're essentially selling you 8 cards for $150. That's ******* stupid. It's not like it costs them any more to print a Jace than it does a Colossal Dreadmaw. They might as well make Black Lotus a box topper and sell the boxes at $10,000 each at this point.

So it’s not that it’s a garbage product it’s that you can’t afford it.

This product is the opposite of garbage the price point is high, but if you want the premium walkers then the high price point is justified. If you want a box of cards then no. It’s not worth 2 and a half times the price of a box.

I have a little disposable income to spend on this. I’d rather buy it for 250 then wait and pay 500+ from scalpers.

Yes it will sell for at least twice as much to collectors and such who didn’t get one at the original 250 price point.

I have bought the other two. The card quality of the foil walkers is fantastic. They haven’t curled in me and they look gorgeous for the most part.

All in all I can say that this is not hot garbage, and the only reason people are upset about this is because they want it and can not afford it.

    I’m sorry. But that’s petty.

Edit. I realize that it’s suoer expensive to ship over seas and this 250 ox is closer to 350-400 for non North Americans. That sucks. I’m sorry for all of you.
But it’s still a luxury and a master piece Nicol Bolas doesn’t win any faster then a pack version.

They literally say "Masterpiece" on them, but the article for their announcement does call it a "Mythic Edition".

    Frustrating, to say the least.

The box of cards is a mythic edition of war of the spark.

The 8 foil fullarts are masterpieces.

It’s a different frame and distribution from expeditions inventenions and invocations but they are masterpieces non the less.

Next time, title the thread Mythic Edition, not Masterpieces. These are not masterpieces. I thought they had revived Masterpieces for the set.

These are litterally masterpieces. They say it on the card. The box they come in is a mythic edition.

    Don’t be so obtuse.

I’ll be using the elder spell to combo off. If I can pick off other walkers great.

I’ll have 3. Nicol Bolas walkers. May as well try deliver unto evil to draw four from the yard.

To be fair, these *are* Masterpieces as categorized by Wizards. They even say "Masterpiece" on the bottom of the cards.

On a long term-note, I wonder if they will do more Masterpieces like this. I vastly prefer this distribution method of getting these kinds of cards. It just so happens that they started this with planeswalkers due to the story arc of planeswalkers. If they do this again with another set (maybe every set if they only give us 8 promo cards) it can be anything with any frame treatment.
And it's super weird that's the case. WotC already had a line called "Masterpiece" and, from what I remember, they said it was on hiatus and not shelved entirely. Does that mean WotC considers the Mythic Edition to be a continuation of the Masterpiece series, and as such the old way is never coming back? Because that would be deeply disappointing. The Mythic Edition is hot garbage in my opinion, and honestly I'm surprised people buy it.

The new reanimation spell Command the Dreadhorde looks sweet! I'm pretty sure you can stack the triggers so that a Deepglow Skate would come in after your planeswalker, so you can use the ultimate immediately. I do like the flexibility of getting to target other player's graveyards too, but between the 6 cmc and the life payment it may just not make the cut.

Fair point about Jokulhaups, I only brought it in after my friend kept destroying all my lands with Ruination, so I thought I would return the favor haha
It's no doubt a very impressive card if you want to play cutthroat. I think this deck could look a lot more ruthless if you're playing in that meta.

Yeah that card looks pretty sweet, I just am a little worried about the life loss, though I wish I didn't have to be lol

You have a bunch of spare life though, cause no one is ever attacking you.

This set looks great for the deck, even if i only want to add 1 of the 37 new planeswalkers.
    Elderspell
    deliver unto evil
    command the dreadhorde
    blast zone
    interplaner beacon

edit: forgot my favorite card, spark double

Those are all pretty nifty, and i will test them.

    Also the new mythic edition.

My deck will be soooo pimped! if only i could afford black border duals

Aren’t all the cards books spoilers?
You'd think so, but as it turns out that's not the case.

We're talking about spoilers that are unique to the as-yet-unreleased book. If it's on a card, it's fair game.

So your telling me that Gideon does not die and Nicol Bolas does not spend an eternity in the meditation realm? Cause that’s on the cards applied today. And it would be real strange if the book didn’t kill Gideon and imprison Nicol Bolas.

I just don’t understand what the difference is, or the issue.

Why can’t there be a clearly labeled book spoiler thread?

  • posted a message on To Allow a Tutor or Not to allow one?
    Quote from Foxtrot-101 »
I've been playing MTG for over 2 years, almost 3, and I mostly play commander. Recently, I've come to a conclusion that whenever I can, I should stop a tutor spell, be it mystical tutor, demonic tutor, or tooth and nail, Etc... and my reasoning for this is that tutoring is the most powerful thing you can do in magic, drawing cards being the second. Tutoring allows you to get an answer to adapt to a situation at any point, it can win the game, or drag out a game longer. Tutors are extremely powerful. But they also do more than just tutor. They allow you to shuffle your library, which can be extremely beneficial. For example, if you're getting flooded with lands, or not drawing any lands, a fresh shuffle can fix that. It can give the player the opportunity to cheat by stacking their deck, assemble combo pieces and so much more. However, recently I got into an argument with someone about this. They believe it's much better to counter or deal with the card they tutored for and not the tutor. Which begs the question of, to allow someone to tutor, or not to tutor? Can anyone give me some insight on your thoughts?

if you are drawing lands or spells, shuffling your deck will not be a quick fix.

You should not be playing with people who cheat.

If you wait to counterspell the tutor target you also get a 2 for 1.

I'm going to be a goodie-little-two-shoes here and state what I think is obvious. Generally speaking, it's wrong to lie to people.

Yes, there are such things as white lies, but since we're talking about something that most people agree that rather or not it matters depends on the individual, lying to someone who cares about such things would be wrong.
I don't care about WotC (in this case), they make enough money and I don't think using proxies hurts them that much. Also, I don't personally care if people use proxies; this is a game played to have fun, but I personally appreciate it when people give me the heads up of "Oh by the way, I have a few proxies in my deck", but I wouldn't get mad if they didn't. But if someone told me that all of their cards were real, and I somehow found out some of them were proxies... I wouldn't want to be friends with that person any more purely on principle.

Why? Because if someone is willing to lie about something as little as that, who knows what else they might be lying about. It's just a bad precedent.

Now, I don't want to make you feel bad or feel like I'm attacking you, I'm just explaining what I think and how I feel about the matter. For what it's worth, I understand your dilemma, and I don't understand people who care so much about rather or not someone is using proxies. Considering how expensive of a hobby magic is, even if you're not using the super-competitive cards, it can feel exclusionary to say "you can only play with real cards" when the real cards cost so much to get. It's the equivalent of saying something like "you have to be at least this rich to play" and that is the biggest aspect of this game I dislike. So I'm all for people using proxies. Just don't lie to me. I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

Magic isn't really pay to play though. At least casually. You do not need to proxy expensive cards, there are 20,000 + unique game pieces. There is a substitute for everything. It might be a 7 out of 10 instead of a 10 out of 10, but this is a casual format, and you shouldn't "need" to play any cards at all, because there is nothing to win.

I don't think it's fair to say the game is casual so use fake cards. If it's casual why do you need to use fake cards? Spell swindle is no mana drain. But it costs less then a buck, is super fun, and you wont make ANYONE feel ANY KIND of way casting a real card, as opposed to playing a proxied mana drain on someones real card. Especially if using proxies directly help you win the game.

Its just in friday night magic "events" that i play.
With the first group i played with i told them upfront i was playing with a few proxies in my deck and then said they were fine with it.
After the game the wondered where my proxies were but 1 was already on the board (geae's).
I thought proxies were just fake cards (since thats how i googled them and got on aliexpress)
But after the game they told that at a certain table the people playing there disliked fakes, they didnt mind if i had a few hand written cards with the intend of buying it after saving or after testing it in the deck.
Tbh, i see this as a fun hobby and already spend atleast 500 euro on it.

None of it went to the magic company since i bought them second hand so the card company doesnt suffer from it.

    Thanks for the many responses

You have a terrible grasp of what is and is not ok. Just because you spent some money on the game doesnt give you cart blanch to have proxies( counterfeights) and then say others are over reacting.

Buying fake cards 100% hurts wotc, the makers of Magic

    come correct

Please pardon my ignorance, is this an ETB or an "as it enters" effect? Meaning, if Humility or Hushwing Gryff are out, does this lose its ability to clone?

It functions as the permanent enters the battlefield out of necessity. If it were an ETB, it would enter the battlefield, and, um, die before becoming anything due to being 0/0.

So. With a humility in play this can enter as a planeswalker? Or does it enter as a 1/1 with no abilities?

I assume it belongs to either the Izzet or the Simic guild, more importantly why is it so bad? Yes its 2 mana for a 2/3 that gives card draw except you need to tape a 2 power creature to activate it! Smuggler's Copter was much better and in my eyes this is worse than Jhessian Thief as it doesn't have prowess. Actually this Submarine doesn't have any evasion which defeats the whole purpose of a sub. If it had islandwalk, skulk or even prowess I would have been fine with it. Instead it is a god awful rare. Also crew 2 for a 2/3 vehicle is over costed should have been crew 1.

Yea ya know how smugglers copter was banned? Turned out it was too good. They went for playable, but busted in half.
