Hey guys, new in the community and to EDH in general... A bit of background on me - Played magic competitively like 10-15 years ago, vintage, legacy all that. It all got a bit competitive for me, so i sold most of my cards (**** me right? THose duels would have come in hand now) Now im coming back due to commander, which seems super cool and fun, with a bit less competitiveness. However i dont know anything about the format, so im just testing. I would love some response on my Zur deck! I basically brought a precon, and swapped in alot of my old cards.

    Here it is:
    https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/zuresen/

Basically what Im after is a fun deck, that can win in a lot of fun and different ways.. with a big toolbox so to say. Im not looking to just rush through an auto win combo, but digging, controlling the battlefield and also playing fun stuff like Shared Fate. Im a fan of people "getting to do their stuff" so to speak. - Like, i play counter spells and board wipes ofcourse, but I dont go over board with it (I think) I also have to be careful, as the power level of my deck is potentially a bit high compared to my play group (Or at least, i have access to much more expensive cards, as I have played previously etc) I for example, dont play Serras sanctum even though I have it. I might experiment with it later though. Some cards I have thought about: Humility(Expensive, but not crazy powerful i think) Scroll Rack to combo with Landtax and bring in some draws - Maybe throw in a trinket mage to get it. Some problems with the deck atm: A bit lacking in the draw department, and very lacking in win conditions! It doenst really seem to have a cohesive way to win for now. So it was kind of just controlling, and then got blown out, at some point. The play group plays a lot of creatures, and graveyard shennaningans.

Let me know what you think! Im also very open to suggestions of other decks that might fit my playstyle! Looking for more fun commanders to try

To start with, I need to say I'm not an expert with Excel. I'm forced to use it as part of my job at... my er... job. Given a choice, I wouldn't bother with it. That said.

What you want is to pull down data and it requires a little bit of set up on your part. The Microsoft office website has this bit of information on the subject Import Data From External Data.... there is a gaggle of friendlier tutorials such as one from Excel University. I never cared to try pulling down data this way so YMMV.

    Some things to consider though.

Excel doesn't really have a very intelligent method of handling "live" data without causing frustrations. Sraping your EDH deck won't cause too many problems with 100 cards but scraping 15,000 entries all at once might be a bear. IIRC, there are settings you need to tweak to avoid slowing your computer down every time you open the file at the cost of not using the latest live data. Basically, once you reach a threshold, consider using a full blown database like MariaDB or MySQL.

In addition most websites have something in their terms of service that disallows scraping data off of their website (I don't know about MTGgoldfish). Sites like TCGPlayer offer an API that allows you to snag price lists in quantity without tying both yours and their bandwidth downloading cruft you're not using anyways.

    Good luck.

Really solid post, but bear in mind I'm no wizard with Excel or cording.. Barely literate in fact... Any place to start? Did you do something similar?

Maybe it could be done Online, or written in a program like Filemaker?

Scryfall has a pretty good API for this if you are willing to spend a little time writing a program to do it.

I personally have a program written to pull all the data from their site every so often. It takes about 40 minutes at a time for me.

I agree that trying to do this directly in Excel might lead to frustration.

This is the price lookup someone set up in a Google Sheet a while back at work when attempting to set up a in-office trading community (that never took off):
    =IF(F6<>"",vlookup(E6&"*",importhtml(F6,"table",0),2,FALSE),"")

Where E# is "Normal" or "Foil" and F# is:
    =IF(A6<>"",IMPORTJSON("https://api.scryfall.com/cards/named?fuzzy="&A6&"&set="&D6, "purchase_uris/tcgplayer"),"")

Where A# is a card name and D# is the card's set abbreviation.

So I would just place this in a cell next to the card and change the names basically?

Anyone else have experience with this?

Greetings guys, i made a list of my collection which i would like some sort of value on (Just to have an idea) I was wondering if anyone has done similar in Excel - Heres what i want to do.

I want to attach the price seen in the picture into the actual cell (See attachment)

    mtggoldfish[DOT]com/price/Limited+Edition+Beta/Black+Lotus#paper

^For instance from this. This should lead to the ability to autoupdate as the prices flutuate.

Any idea how to make this happen? It could also be something other than excel though.

    Thanks so much in advance!
