is altar of dementia still necessary to the deck? i think there's no longer synergy for altar without BfB. i bet we won't cast it T2 and T3 now.

besides a T2 Hogaak and Vengevine is still powerful.

thanks! i'm on anticipate now as i value the ability to get lands in the early turns. about moment's peace and respite split, i think it's still better to have moment's peace all-in, it's ability for a flashback really matter during our stabilizing turn, later on the game when we are executing stream of thoughts plan, fog and tangle are already good choices to shuffle into our library, during this turn i'm more on fog (specially if you want to storm off) in order to efficiently use my mana for fog + backup arcane denial + stream of thought (with replicate activation) + card draw spell.

btw, is it ok for us to not fully return the max amount of cards from a replicated stream of thought? in my playtest there are times when i only return 6 or 7 cards (not sure if this correct). my priorities to return are: (not in order)
    - stream of thought
    - 3rd/4th accumulated knowledge
    - fog
    - pieces of the puzzle
    - brainstorm
    - ponder (least option)

guys, what do you think is the good alternative for impulse? is it anticipate or shimmer of possibilities or do you have other suggestions. thanks!

note: i do play in paper and i think it will take me sometime to get a copy of it.

    welcome to mtgs Nierluc!

accumulated knowledge potentially draws more cards over think twice. 10 vs 8. like what you'v said you can easily mill you're 1st accumulated knowledge with jace's erasure self mill or stream of thought. with stream of thought you can shuffle the 3rd/4th copy of accumulated knowledge from graveyard to potentially draw 3~4 cards.

for weather the storm, i think the 1 of in MB is good enough to stabilize early game and be reuse from stream of thought in the late game, we should rely on fog effects most of the time. the extra copies of weather the storm are primarily used against burn or pestilence deck.

wow! welcome to mtgs! i like your list and notes you've shared about the card choices, not needing to look for jace's erasure as a wincon free up the slot for muddle the mixture opening so many slot in the deck.

now for my thoughts: pieces of the puzzle/hieroglyphic illumination, this cards cost a lot and we need to open up extra mana for fog and if against blue we also need an extra mana for the counterwar. incase we reach a point wherein we are able to cast them with extra mana for fog then that means we are "somehow" in a comfortable position to win, i think the critical period for turbo fog is in the early turn (T3~T5) in which we are setting up and ensuring we have fog protection so i think brainstorm is still needed here for the cheap card draw manipulation.

that's just my thought, thanks for sharing your list! with this i'm more convince to go the stream of thought route rather than jace's erasure, but i would still like to have atleast 2 copies of jace's erasure in my 75 so as not to fold against gravehate. (i bet i'll be having a hardtime finding a copy of rust in paper).

good catch on desert, it's really a good police against faeries, sadly it already spike in paper commanding a $7 price tag Frown

edit: imagining the lines of play using your decklist
    - i'd like the inclusion of weather the storm maindeck (i'll also adopt this strategy instead of quiet disrepair mb)
    - 2 stream of thought for the alternate wincon without relying with jace.
    - 3 desert, this is really a big inclusion for us

    thoughts:
    - the increase of colorless land might cause some mana problem, is ash barren would still be playable? eot landcyling? (though it would increase a chance for mulligan due to coloreless land in opening hand).
    - the list looks weak against graveyard hate (atm no gravehate is used against fog deck but once this list gets popular then we might see them), i think minimum of 2-Erasure is the correct number to prevent this from happening.

last: after thinking for while, it seems desert is too strong for pauper though the disadvantage of running colorless is there.

sharing my decklist post MH1, sideboard is still under construction buty primary concern for it are delver decks + their new anthem effect in sunken, goblin with grenades and as always burn decks.

sorry, i made a mistake (edited post above). i was referring to tom ross match instead of takahashi. it was R6 G3 Hogaak vs UW Control and Ross won by hard casting 2 back to back vengevines though his opponent made a mistake of not hitting with field of ruin to 1-overgrown tomb after he saw the 1st hardcast vengevine. In the finals match what happened is that the Hogaak player keeps on drawing his wear/tear and wispmare without having a target (not sure if he overboarded on this one, there was also the same instance in which he has 2 vengevine on hand and unable to cast it and that could have made the difference.

i think the featured match of yuta takahashi (edit: i was referring to tom ross and not takahashi) with hogaak vs UW control and the finals match between Hogaak vs UW Control in Magicfest Dallas featured why "jund" manabase is better than a "mardu" manabase.

hi! sharing to you guys my experience with winding way from MH1, i'm currently playing 2 copies MB. i find it to be a very good fit in our deck:
    - can be cast T2 and choose land to ensure our land drops on succeeding turns while milling our deck for gnaw/creature count.
    - not a bad topdeck late game, choose creature and cycle them for more digging
    - great tool to refill our hands vs discard effects

ok, initial list and vids are popping up with the combination of: bridge from below / vengevine / hogaak / altar of dementia. my thoughts is that this combination is a bit an overkill and may drop a few of them in order to optimize, i could see 3 directions in which this would happen:

    (1) bridge from below + vengevine + hogaak: this focus on the aggro plan

    (2) bridge from below + hogaak + altar of dementia: yes im dropping vengevine to go all in for the combo

    (3) hogaak + vengevine: here goes the old dredgevine archetype.

are those 4 cards really an overkill together? what are your thoughts?

i've just thought about this scenario, say T4 and the board is clear because of a boardwipe, both hoogak and vengevine is in the graveyard. we are in a topdeck mode.

we draw our card and we got [[lazotep reaver]], we cast it > trigger amass > cast hoogak from graveyard by delving 5 cards and 2-convoke from lazotep + amass token (2nd creature cast) / trigger vengevine.

from an empty boardstate, into drawing that one card transforming into that big explosive boardstate, so do you think [[lazotep reaver]] got a chance MB?
