Mergatroid_Jones posted a message on [CUBE][IKO] Cycling Wedge Tri-LandsFor me, the green ones are definitely best because there are more cards that fetch or care about forests than other lands.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
For a cube like mine, these are the absolute best lands in magic, including original duals. That's because they have so many interactions, and because of how versatile tri-lands are during the draft process. Plus my cube is WAY slower and a lot larger than most.
Unfortunately, I don't have all five of them, and they're expensive. -

IMorphling89 posted a message on [CUBE][IKO] Cycling Wedge Tri-LandsThe blue ones are much stronger than the non blue ones. I think at 360 or 450, you should only run 2-3 instead of all 5, starting with blue trilands.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
To make it work, I just cheat slightly and slot them into a viable guild slot in exchange for another guild card / land like a horizon canopy land (which these are pretty on par with). -

Curious to hear where people are at a year later.
They're definitely good, I just don't think they're necessary at smaller cube sizes. For me personally 540 is the sweet spot for them. I don't have them in the 480 version of my cube. -

I love aggressively testing new cards and it has been a blast with this set. -

simpygdog posted a message on [CUBE][MH2] Includes & Testing ThreadPeople always talk about cubeable combat tricks, solitude is a great one, the flash and life link 3/2 body are great, it got evoked about as much as it got hardcast in my blue/white control deck today. Gained a bunch of life over the course of the night, which is never a bad thing for a removal spell.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Fury just feels like a better flame tongue Kavu, it was played in a gruul midrange deck today and while it’s evoke really helped the aggro matchup, the hardcast put pressure on my control deck at least.
Grist unfortunately didn’t get played
Grief was important both in protecting combo pieces as well as just evoking on a power turn to make sure the real threat didn’t get countered.
Happy with what I’ve pulled so far and added to the cube, can’t wait for all stars like damn and ragavan. -

steve_man posted a message on [MH2][CUBE] FuryPosted in: Cube Card and Archetype DiscussionQuote from asmallcat »I feel like I'm taking crazy pills lol. Pyrokinesis has been on no one's cube radar for a long time as far as I know, and the evoke effect on this is essentially the same, if slightly worse (trading instant speed for the ability to hit a walker), so you're relying on the creature half to put it over the top, and the creature half is something that I really don't want in aggro decks. It's 5 mana, meaning it's competing in aggro with things like Glorybringer and Thundermaw, as well as the plothora of good red 4's for aggro, and it's a terrible post-wrath play unless they have a PW in play (I'm assuming you can pick 0 targets so it doesn't have to kill itself on an empty board).
As I said, I would happily play this in midrange lists as it's probably just better than FTK. But in aggro I don't think this would ever make my final 40, but might come in as a sideboard card against the green decks with lots of elves or the aggro mirror where you will always get the 2-for-2 and have an outside chance at a 3-for-2, but that's pretty narrow.
Pyrokinesis is very good at what it does. It'd be on my radar if it was a lot more flexibile, which this is.
I think Fury is way better than Glorybringer due to its higher board impact and evoke option. I typically don't curve 5-drops in my aggro decks, but I would gladly play this in a mono / heavy red aggro deck over any other red 5-drop to control the board / have as a late game finisher against decks that want to grind. This also really helps tremendously vs midrange, which is traditionally aggro's toughest matchup.
As far as the cycle goes, this is in my top 3 alongside Grief / Solitude. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I have such fond memories of that card and I really love the versatility - you've inspired me to try it out.
