Personally I don't really care if people proxy something, as long as it can be read clearly and understood what it is easily. I've had people just stick a piece of paper into a sleeve that reads "Cruel ultimatum" and that can get annoying because I have to look up the card on my phone to read it. If it's clear and easy enough to read then I don't mind at all, for whatever the reason.
I do have one gold bordered card that I have in a single deck that rarely sees play. It's a very weak chaos deck and the card is a Chaos Orb. Obviously this card is also banned in the format and I always ask before playing it and explain that I have a real Alpha Chaos Orb and will show them if requested. I just find it a funny card and most people are fine with letting me use it because it's so unique. That and usually I flip it terribly and it ends up destroying half of my board.
A very interesting deck that makes excellent use of politics. The X drops are a nice touch and it took me a second to figure out exactly how you were using them, but it's very clever. By the way you have 2 Blood Pets in your list. I was surprised to see no Enduring Renewal in the list, is it because of the hand reveal? It seems like it would fit perfectly in the deck, but that hand reveal is dangerous. Viscera Seer is another card that looks like it might work well in a list like this.
I have to say that your opponent in the story is not correct when he felt you lied to him. Removing his deck from the game with Bitter Ordeal did not make him lose the game. Technically he lost the game on his next draw step when he failed to draw a card, a technicality, but you still didn't lie to him. People I play with seem to feel better when they lose to damage versus anything else, so that might have been a factor in his feelings.
It's not just you. Mousing over the cards also does not bring up the usual viewing of the card, even when they are spelled correctly. Not sure what's going on, but it's not just you.
In another note. I use EDHrec for ideas on what kinds of cards can go into a new deck, but where it tends to fail is displaying anything other than synergies between the deck type and the cards. The decklists here are organized and played by people, they include win conditions that don't always fit into the decks synergies.
