I've never heard of 1488, it seemed like something that 4 chan created some 10 years ago. Maybe something like the Tree Octopus or Slender Man.

The characters in Invoke Prejudice look more like executioners with a head chopping axe. It's quite possible that the artist wanted to use KKK men but decided to self censor himself by making black hooded men and giving the men an axe instead of a burning cross (Yes I'm assuming this), and it's quite possible that wizards altered the art too (there are many stories how they hired artist and still made modifications to their art).

Either case, I don't see white hooded men and a burning cross. You can google executioners hoods and are going to get a man wearing a black pointy hood, oddly similar to the art in Invoke Prejudice.

For the past year wizards has been Anti-Cardshop. So this move will not come a surprise.
On a business perspective it makes sense as to why they've been against the Local Game Store (LGS) business model and more in favor of big box retailers like Walmart and Target simply because the profit margins are much higher and safer than at LGSs. On a public relations perspective it's a terrible move that completely neglects the In-Store Play aspect of the Local Game Store (LGS) that big box retailers like Walmart and Target are unable to provide for their customers especially GameStop as their slogan should've been "power to the corporations" because "power to the players" is misleading.

The idea of GameStop implementing In-Store Play for people who play MTG, Pokémon TCG, and Yu-Gi-Oh! by running sanctioned events and Organized Play is laughable at best when they're already going the way of Blockbuster with terrible costumer service, terrible public relations, and bad businesss practices overall. Maybe If they didn't have such a terrible reputation I'd reconsider the option of GameStop potentially taking over the Local Game Store (LGS) business model and even If they did I feel it would be too corporate compared to how grassroots LGSs we know are properly run.

It would be cool but Gamestop is too freaking small.

Gamestop has its own issues. I'm not sure what can be done to fix it. I do see it going away like RadioShack and Blockbuster.

I'm trying to see why wizards is doing this. The current protest has nothing to do with magic, unless their cooperate office is next door to CHAZ. And the ban list is what CHAZ created. Wishful thinking, I guess.

I don't see anything good from this ban list. It's opens the game based on players feelings. And if you ask a casual player most likely they will call Counterspell a racist and sexist card.

Nobody was flashing Stone Throwing Devils or Invoke Prejudice at players to belittle them.
You say this yet others on this very forum say they have personally seen this happen. So people are flashing these cards at others to belittle them.

Knowing that people are using them to belittle others does this change your opinion?

LOL... Players would flash an island, counterspell, a lighting bolt, black lotus, expensive standard cards, a foil deck and the intimidation would be aimed on I'm a better player then you because I have such and such in my deck.

Is this the ban list we need?

    Thanks for your kind replies.

I strongly believe wizards is purposely trying to reset the MTG game. I think some ceo told them that the company could make billions of dollars if they focused all their attention on online tournaments. How they are going to do this? I think this is a starting point. We are going to see a second and a 3rd wave of banning's. And it'll come to a point that wizards will say, "I think we are going to stop all paper tournaments and those that play in Arena or Online, will play with such ban cards but those cards will have a new name and new art."

For the past year wizards has been Anti-Cardshop. So this move will not come a surprise.

I personally enjoy paying by the format rules, so I can build decks and play casually with other friends without inserting personal rules. Though I would like to follow the new ban rules, but I feel insulted that these racist bans exist, especially when there was no reason for them. Nobody was flashing Stone Throwing Devils or Invoke Prejudice at players to belittle them.

Anyway, I'm not accepting this BS ban. The ban makes no damn sense!

I would like to talk to players about there feelings towards this. I'm not sure where to go because I know this topic is loaded with emotions.

My feeling is that wizards opened the Pandora box and it looks like they are going to kill the game, especially when they decided to take the high horse and ban 7 cards that they say is racist. Why stop at racist? What not Sexist? Why not violence towards women? Why not remove the Demons, Devils and the Djinns. What about the card Murder? This ban list can suck away 95% of the card pool, leaving only lands.

And since wizards focused on racism... Are they going to ban all cards written in Italian with the "N" word. Sure it's not spelled the same but living in America, I know saying any word relatively close to the "n" word can get you into trouble. Don't believe me, try it.

I like it... I just got the goblins playset. I like those too. I think these Secret Lairs are awesome, but I don't see why people feel so compelled into buying all the cards. There's a ton of cards from the Secret Lairs I'm not buying, but I feel that somebody else may like those cards more and they should have the option to buy it.

I think anybody feeling that wizards shouldn't be doing this, they should sit back, save your money and buy something you like to buy. If cardshops are having an issues, then don't stock them.

Wizards is going to keep on pushing secret lair cards because they are trying to attract more new and bring old players to the game.

Normally, I would never buy Goblin Lackey, I have a playset of them already... but these new Secret Lairs version is so awesome looking that I needed to get a complete playset. I would hope they have more Goblins in similar art... But that's my thoughts Smile

This would be a good way to go around the reserve list policy... Sort of cool looking, not sure I would play (or buy) these cards because they are so small. But a commander tower would look funny as hell. Smile

  • posted a message on Can Mono-Red be the best deck forever and ever and ever?
I like mono red because it's fast and simple, less thinking in some parts and more thinking in other parts. But all mono colors are strong because of it's simple mana base, though all mono colors have a weakness and can be exploited.

Mono red weakness is the ability to remove enchantments. I also think a slow draw can be a factor. Based on the format the range of creatures/burn damage is also another factor.

I thought Smuggler's Copter was going to be banned, and I'm leaning towards any cards that were banned in standard is going to have a short existence in Pioneer.

  • posted a message on Looking for help in building a mono red Pioneer Sligh deck.
I'm a huge fan of Mono-Red burn (Legacy and Modern). I'm not sure if there is enough good red burn spells in Pioneer format so I'm thinking a sligh build. As for Burn, Searing Blood (one of my favorite burn spells), Magma Jet (which I strongly disliked in Legacy), shock (seems correct for now) and Wild Slash (I think I might own a playset) looks good.

I'd picked up 4 bonecrusher giant (because it looks awesome) I don't see myself playing with the creature in Modern or Legacy. But I wonder if the 'Stomp spell' interacts with Monastery Swiftspear.

I'm not a huge fan of Monastery Swiftspear in Legacy/Modern... I play Vexing Devil like a shark, I'm not into debating the card, and I know Vexing Devil is not a pioneer format card... so Swiftspear is in!

Soul-Scar Mage seems to be a correct creature in this deck.

So the cards I'm looking at are...

    4 Monastery Swiftspear
    4 Bonecrusher Giant
    4 Soul-Scar Mage

    4 Searing Blood
    4 Magma Jet
    4 Wild Slash

Cards I'm not sure about and why...

Eidolon of the Great Revel I'm not sure its a good creature to play in this format. We don't have enough low mana 3 damage burn spells that out numbers the 2 damage coming from Eidolon. I see it hurting me more then helping, I could be wrong...

shock I'm not sure it's worth a card slot.

Wizards Lighting not enough wizards to justify a card slot.

Skewer the critics not enough low damage spells and I need to attack with Swiftspear first (or any creature) so I can get to pay the Spectacle cost.

Boros Charm and Atarka's Command 2 color mana spells. I'm working on a mono red build.

    Cards that interest me...

Touch of the Void I know 3 mana for 3 damage. But this is colorless damage! Also it exiles the creature.

Viashiro Pyromancer because it's low cost (2 mana) and it deals 2 damage coming into play... but not sure if it's good enough for a card slot.

Ghitu Lavarunner seemed like another good card for this format, but I have doubts I'll have 2 instant and/or sorcery cards in the grave early in... but maybe late game is all it matters.

Dynacharge a swiftspear booster, maybe end game booster... not sure.

Otherworldly Outburst maybe a good card with the right creature in play... not sure.

Titan's Strength +3 power and scry... not sure.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

That's a pretty major mistake for Walgreens.

Pff, dude 'pulled' all five Energy lands and a full-art Elspeth. Either they were filched from higher up the supply chain or it's a WotC plant.

    Agree... smells very fishy

I think whatever was banned in standard might get hit in Pioneer. Only because of the limited card pool.

Pioneer (29x sets) is much larger than any Standard so I don't think that it really applies here.

Lets see if felidar guardian & smuggler's copter gets banned... I would suspect others would follow...

The cards were not damaged. And they put a nice bubble wrap around the cards, and the cards were placed inside a white box with paper. Not bad. But the box was not sealed wrap and you can remove the plastic cover to play with the cards and place them back and nobody would know. I know that sort of makes it a guessing game when it comes to unplayed in a package, because if it's sealed and the seal is broken you would know if the cards were played with.

I just find that a little odd.

Right now I'm looking at shadow box options. I do like the cards and I hope the next 'un' set is more like this... Smile

I would really like a Discord card. Smile

I wish I had kept my copies of Mental Misstep, Frown They may well get the chop; they were banned from Extended if I recall correctly.

I don't understand the mental misstep comment. The card is not legal in Pioneer, and the highest price of the card is 2.19, getting a playset is not expensive.
