Lol there are no 90/10s between real decks.

My ears always perk up when I hear someone say, "90/10 matchup." 80/20s happen in my opinion, but are rare, but the 90/10 is truly a super rare unicorn.

I can name 2 that are fairly close, but probably more 80/20.

Elves v Merfolk, its a super hard fish match
Mill v Storm, Ive won 3 games against mill with my storm deck, but ive only played it on paper against 1 person, so maybe its their build

If your running wizards... why not wizards lightning? 8 may not be enough but idt bomat isnt replaceable. Fallout may be uncounterable but youll rly want the 3 damage of some of the stronger sweepers i would think. Most control decks dont run enough creatures for it and fae is rly the only reason to need it to be uncounterable but i havent seen fae very much at all.

Fallout is because I like to try and line it up with Swiftspears and Mages, so that I can retain part of my field

This build isnt super strong for Lavaman, and my notes and my gut say that Bomat is a better choice than Lavaman and Wizards lightning, maybe if we can get another truly decent red wizard It could come back in place of Skullcrack

Chill and Dredge are interesting cases. On the one hand, Dredge was mostly fine pre-Chill and a bit of an issue (potentially) after. This makes Chill a sensible and focused target, because you can effectively undo the damage its done with a targeted ban. On the other hand, Wizards dealt with a similar issue with GGT and Reunion/Neonate/Amalgam/etc. In that case, they explicitly said those kinds of enablers weren't the problem; the dredge mechanic itself was the problem. Then they banned GGT. By a similar logic, they might just go after more dredgers and be done with it.

Could dredge survive completely losing a dredger in something nerfed wasnt printed to take its place? like ban stinkweed and print another dredge 4 thats playable? Dredge is a deck i genuinely enjoy in the meta most of the time, and i was of the opinion that banning GGT was the wrong move anyways

Even on its own, this is clearly a very diverse, interactive, and healthy T8. Given the Day 2 results, however, it's even better because it shows over-performance by decks that were relatively underplayed, and underperformance by the most-played strategies.

Thats better than i expected, but man, dredge is a nightmare with creeping chill. Something will have to be done to reel it back because its just a beast overall

Agreed that Dredge could remain an issue. Stuff like MD RIP on MTGO creates lots of concern. Also, GGT got banned for the "Battle of sideboards" issue during a period where Dredge did not do particularly well at a T8 GP perspective. It was largely an MTGO issue by all indications. This suggests that Chill and Dredge could be comparable issues today even if we don't see them as such in T8s. If so, we could see a Dredge-targeted ban in the next round of updates. This would likely be on something like Stinkweed or Chill, i.e. a limited focus ban on just a Dredge issue. It is unlikely that this would be on Looting, as it would affect decks that aren't doing anything wrong.

I feel like banning stinkweed is the end of dredge, but i do think they could get away with banning thug without killing the deck. Chill is the obvious choice though imho

PS: There are adjustments fair decks can make to see success in Modern, if one understands the meta.

This, all of this, ive skated around the meta for 3 years either playing jank that is good or making odd changes to tier decks. And overall ive done quite well for myself, i bought into fish for like $250 and only paid like 3 entry fees before the credit train started rolling pretty well. Went from fish to infect to affinity to bloo to Mardu Nahiri to BG Eldrazi and finally have settled on burn and its variants for almost a year now

These days i only play MTGO, and im finding huge success in mono-red burn. Creeping chill doesnt hurt as much without fetches/shocks/eidolon to screw your day up. Sometimes adapting to the meta requires you to think outside the box

    Hi all,

I have been working on different builds for a couple of months and need some sideboard help. This list is NOT meant to be a budget list and any card on the table within reason. The deck is purposely Mono-colored, and i really have enjoyed playing it, and my win% has went up quite a few points since i started playing it full time

    My current SB is:
    3 Tormods Crypt
    1 Skullcrack
    1 Searing Blood
    3 Alpine Moon
    4 Smash to Smithereens
    3 Volcanic Fallout

Any ideas for making it better?

@ReverseRoot: No comments on Mikey, his claim, or Dan's call for reads?

I had made a small comment earlier about feeling his claim was BS. Like I said when i placed the vote, outside of a smoking gun or deadline thats where my vote is today.

As for reads, Me posting as much as I have today is a fluke, Usually Wed, Thu, Fri Im lucky to get 1 post per day, but I will take some time to flesh out some of my other leads if I have time, if not I have 12 hours of watching paint dry at work on saturday, the lurkers have me a bit iffy though.

@RR What do you expect good players to be doing at this stage? Break down what you expect scumhunting this early in the game to look like for me.

Good players at this stage are scumhunting by setting up questions that will be alignment/dichotomy related in later days. Outside of blind luck or scum slips day 1 is the least important day at the time, and the most important day at the end of the game.

Basically what you want to be able to do, is make sure that at some point during day 1 everyone has been asked hard questions about the game by someone, even if its not you, and even better for multiples. This data in the late game when analyzing voting and wagon patterns is very helpful in narrowing down, or atleast it has been for me, and for some others ive seen with similar styles
    BASED ON THIS QUITE

BASED ON THIS I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH ME. IDK WHAT GAMES WE PLAYED TOGETHER BUT... YEAH I CREATE DATA POINTS CONSTANTLY IT'S ALWAYS MY WHOLE EARLY GAME GOAL.

Because you are chaos incarnate, its not that i dislike playing with you, i just dont trust my reads of you in the early game because of the way you play. I tend to like the games we are in together overall

there's no way this is frequently a scum role
    no
    freaking
    way

Its one of those can be either side roles, But the fact that you didnt try and defend yourself before claiming makes me lean even harder towards scum. Why not fight off accusations today then save claiming for another time?
