People really need to drop the collective delusion that Tron is UW Controls worst nightmare. From personal experience and from PT/GP data the MU is very close to 50/50, even slightly favorable for UW.
Tron is good right now, because it has a good Humans, phoenix and dredge MU. And it also is very good against decks like BGx, Mardu etc.
Alot of these arguments for Looting are similar to Vengevine and Survival in Legacy. Wotc won't stop printing Phoenix, chills etc so the best cause of action is to simply ban looting
Maybe there is some really good PW for 2-3 mana in WAR that is good against looting decks. Something like a Kaya on steroids.
Otherwise I don't understand the decision for looting to remain in the format. The format is miserable right now and Modern Horizons is some months away.
To be fair a not long time ago, Legacy Miracles played 4 SDT and 4 Brainstorm and 0-2 Ponders for years. Until they found out it was suboptimal and then almost everyone played 4 Ponders.
Maxing out on cantrips is very potent and would be very dangerous with Preordain.
given their salt-the-earth policy on blue card draw.
Wizards: Let's print Opt to throw blue players a bone so they can run a suite of 8 decent cantrips
Players: Wizards hates blue
Wizards: Let's print this cool Phoenix thing that synergizes with cantrips, and multiple iterations of strong fliers that synergize with cantrips
Players: Wizards keeps crapping on blue by not unbanning preordain
Wizards: OK, that didn't work, let's print a new pushed delver-esque creature that synergizes with cantrips
Players: SALTED EARTH SALTED EARTH
-------------------------------------------------
I didn't even get into spell queller or teferi or any of the other cool things wizards has been doing for blue (printing new cards to synergize with the cantrips you have, especially).
If what you mean is Wizards has a cautious take toward 1 mana blue draw spells justifiably since Serum Visions (which is unplayable in legacy) is the second most played card in Modern with Opt at #6, then yes, they do.
Preordain is a significant upgrade over opt. It's not about whether it compares to serum visions, since people would run both.
TL;DR The blue persecution complex seriously has got to end After jace, with Serum visions and Snapcaster in the top 1 and 2 spots in their categories, it's time to just let it go.

So true. I mean seriously I can get behind believing that SFM and Twin are safe/ good for the format.
But the Legacy cantrips no way. Miracles with 20 Lands and 4 Preordain, 4 Serum, 4 Opt looks dangerous.
UW control is a really powerful deck that *****s on less refined/ bad decks.
That is actually a really nice idea. I doubt Combo decks would play that card, but Control decks looking for card selection definetely would.
But it is maybe too powerful for Standard.
Personally I think Ponder is way too powerful to be ever even considered for Modern. Ponder is restricted in Vintage, because it is much more powerful in a format with Fetchlands. Preordain seems more likely, but given the success of Serum Vision decks I doubt Wotc wants to boost them further.
I hate Serum Visions with passion, it is good when looking for lands and setting up for future turns. But when you are flooded drawing another land feels sooooo bad.
Meerfolk is not a blue deck, they deceive you with their Islands but in reality they are just an aggro deck (a very uninteractive one, even burn is more interactive) with 30 creatures that ignores the opponent and smashes face.
I just don't get the logic of comparing SFM, a Legacy staple 2 drop, with Ancestral Vision, Bitterblossom, Sword (all fringe playables at best in Legacy) or even worse comparing it with 4 mana cards.

They said it is a very efficient threat and there would be very Little reason to play Tarmogoyf or Grim Flayer over Stoneforge Mystic.
Good example would be Legacy, where almost every Midrange deck is Wxx Stoneforge Mystic.
It just slows the format down.
People are packing a bunch of gy hate and dredge still has a 56% winrate. That is ridicolous

Didn't he say something like: "wouldn't Sword make Lantern obnoxious?"
I'm personally hoping for a Dark Depths unban, because it's not even that strong compared to:
-)insert combo deck killing you on turn 3
-) would boost fair decks
-) we have more answers with Field of Ruin than in the past
