Correction. You either play Nexus or mono red. That's it. Those are the ONLY two decks that are competitive in this "meta." This game is beyond the pale.

It's vile. This is the worst "meta" I've ever seen in any CCG game. Absolutely disgusting card, along with Wilderness Reclamation. Revolting.

The shuffler, is not right. The manipulation it does enables Red to run 18 lands for example, but if you pull that in MTGO (or paper) you are going to lose games.

The best of 1 is really screwing up peoples perceptions.

It's so disgusting. I have 25 lands in the deck I'm currently running. I will have games where I have to surveil through like 12 - 15 cards just in a pathetic attempt at getting the fourth land i need on deck to kill one of my opponents now two dozen creatures. I have to put so much card draw into my decks just to mitigate the weird land distribution with the shuffler it's insane.

I'm not sure why people would bother with a basic play mode. Just do Constructed, its very easy to 'go infinite' especially when you are earning your Daily Quest rewards as you do it.

I've found the Arena community to be pretty toxic and obnoxious. I mean everyone complains about the stalling and roping that happens all the time. But I also run into players that spam emotes, usually 1 in 4 games will be an emote spammer. The best are the ones who spam emotes while stalling and playing a Nexus deck. Cool guys I gotta imagine. I'm also playing a guy, right now, who as "1488" in his username. I guess what I'm saying is I dont think the MTG Arena community is the best people, so wasting their time playing Bant Nexus decks in casual mode is not beneath them.

I mean really. Really? They thought untapping ALL lands was a good idea. How? I swear the people you design these cards have never played their own game.

I'm not sure, but I'm loving it. I am hoping that even if it does eat a ban in Standard, I can keep playing it in Modern. Reclamation + Azcanta + Terferi? I dont even need a Nexus, just let me play this forever.

Nexus players can go infinite on turn five now. And in Arena ranked went from like 1 in 50 nexus decks to like 70% of decks running nexus. It's disgusting.

It's really too bad that cards that remove enchantments don't exist in standard right now.

Oh WELL if there's FOUR cards that never see play then I guess making an insanely overpowered enchantment is FINE

What also makes it difficult is that even in the unranked, no rewards, basic play mode everyone is playing tier one netdecks. I mean, what the **** is wrong with you? Take that ***** to ranked mode. I have no patience for this, yet ironically I will rope you every turn if you take your Izzet Drakes deck to the casual play mode. Seriously you suck. I'm trying to test out a new jank deck. Go away.

Aggro, is what would happen. Just to clarify. :p
Truer words have never been spoken.

If there's no consistency there's just who can beat the other guy's face in the fastest, forever.

That's exactly what you have now. Have you tried Arena? The constructed events and the top tier in ranked is just all aggro. Mono red and red burn decks. A few white/red aggro decks. That's it. Despite all their mechanics, still nothing else performs like drag and drop aggro.

We need to make a rant thread so I can rant about the mulligan / land flooding algorithm. I am so annoyed by it. I play a monoR deck with 24 lands and I am quite sure that i mulligan or don't draw lands way too often, accounting my confirmation bias.

EVERY time I take a deck to constructed event this happens. I mean EVERY time. A deck will perform fine in the other mode then the minute I drop 500 gold on this dumb event it's an 0-3 *****show where I draw 22 lands in a row or 1 land in 15 turns. I'm literally in a match as I post this where I cant pull a 3rd land and my opponent is up to about 10 right now. Honestly if this is 'confirmation bias' or 'true random' or whatever all it proves to me is what a piss poor design the whole mana system has been from the start and why they need to make major changes. It only works in real life because people will say '**** this - rematch' and overlook it. When it's put into a computer program you can see clear as day what a lousy design job it is

Whoa, you're REALLY oversimplifying things here. The five colors are distinct for a reason. Blue doesn't ramp extra lands, black doesn't destroy artifacts, green doesn't counter, etc. Each color has staple effects like burn, countering spells, getting lands, pumping creatures, drawing cards, pumping all creatures, and so on. But that's just the basic, simple stuff of how each color works, and cards like those keep the game from getting too complicated and help fill out sets for draft and so on. Otherwise, sets would be more like 80 cards, and that's just silly. And there's TONS of all sorts of neat effects and creatures among all five colors! I"m guessing you're fairly new to the game, because each color has so many cool cards and various effects in them, from huge creatures to flashy sorceries to planeswalkers and utility lands. No way is blue JUST countering stuff or white is ONLY lifegain and soldier tokens. Each Magic set is in the same game, after all. If you're really feeling unexcited by new sets, maybe you should make your own Cube or even just take a break from the game.

Each color DOES have cool cards and effects. Unfortunately they dont see play because the best cards are the tried and true ones that are repeated over and over in every expansion, so that the meta never REALLY feels any different. Blue control decks play the same now as they did during the last standard cycle and the one before that. I guess that's my point. I'd like to see what would happen if WOTC just STOPPED feeding into the meta and let things change.

I mean, why does blue need another counter spell? Or red get another 'deal 3 damage to any target'? I feel like it pushes decks to such extremes, and punishes creativity and deck design that is not along those lines. So red burn is now 4 cards stronger and blue control has 4 more counters... it's so boring. This expansion is like a week old and I'm already tired of it. meta control decks and meta burn decks, nothing new. no changes. just different artwork on the same spell effects.

Careful on that 50/50 claim. Thats the same comically incorrect assertion made by the majority in a system with a Match Maker, and..they are wrong.

Normally, I'd agree with you. The catch is that we're talking about match maker where you don't get a sideboard and the games are basically a one and done deal. There is a reason we have a best out of three system with sideboard, and it's to help make the game a bit more about the skill and choices a player makes vs just slamming a bunch of cards and hoping you draw into something.

I can absolutely confirm that 50/50 is accurate. I track my games. My win rate dropped significantly to about 50% the second I hit Platinum rank. It's turned into a hellish slog. Not to mention that it feels like the game starts to intentionally "gate" you more once you hit Plat. I'm facing game after game where I am unable to draw my second color land after like 12 turns. Constantly. On decks that breezed me through the lower ranks, suddenly I am facing mana shortages in like 1/3 of my games.

  • posted a message on I absolutely hate draft in this game
Not to mention playing draft means you have to play a miserable draft experience. Like losing one of your games due to never drawing your second color of mana after 15 turns? Here ya go! No Best of threes either theres one game down! Like playing against someone who was able to somehow draft 4 Dimir Spybugs and an all-surveil dimir deck? cool thats game 2. Enjoy mana flooding? Enjoy being offered the absolute worst rares? cool, cool, got ya covered. Here's a player who ropes each turn. Fun. Draft takes all the completely repulsive elements of Magic Arena and puts them all in one very expensive mode.
